* AccidentalAesop:
** If you're feeling uncertain, jealous, or downright hostile towards someone who's about to marry into your family, ''you are absolutely right'', and it's not simply a matter of you making a poor transition.
** On the other hand, Twilight is shown to be overjoyed about the marriage ''until'' Cadance misbehaves. Could be a much more valuable aesop to kids: don't ignore someone's bad behavior that occurs in private just because they make your family member happy.
* AlternateAesopInterpretation: Had Cadance not been revealed as an impostor in the next episode, a case could be made for the Aesop being "just because you're stressed about your wedding, it does not excuse you treating everyone else like dirt."
* AlternateCharacterInterpretation:
** Some people think that Twilight was ''[[BrotherSisterIncest jealous]]'' instead of ProperlyParanoid towards her brother.
** There is a lot of leeway regarding how much of Shining Armor's hostility to Twilight can be attributed to his brainwashing.
** Did Twilight's friends, mentor, and brother ''really'' abandon and shun her after her outburst until her vindication, or did they walk away (possibly for only a few minutes) to give everyone time to cool down, then fail to find her again? One of Equestria's most talented unicorns couldn't have been kidnapped, especially not in the middle of a secure castle on high alert, so she must have left on her own. Worrisome, but there's no reason to think she's in danger and they can all have a long talk after the wedding.
* BaseBreaker: Cadence being an alicorn has had mixed reception, in part due to how this interferes with previous interpretations of Celestia and Luna. It doesn't help that, in this two-parter at least, her being an alicorn is pointless to the story.
* BrokenBase:
** Even before The Hub's premiere, a few fans called ExecutiveMeddling on this two-parter, since it concerns a frilly, girlish wedding of two characters only introduced this episode that [[RememberTheNewGuy no one has ever heard of before]] for the sake of Hasbro's marketing, while other bronies called it a fitting way to end the second season.
** The debate over Twilight's confrontation with the others likely would have caused the episodes to be OvershadowedByControversy if not for the action-packed payoff of Part 2. Many feel the others were in the wrong for dismissing her in spite of everything she had done by that point in the series to show she wouldn't make such an accusation baselessly, knowing Cadance well enough so that her suspicions should have been taken seriously, and their not giving Twilight a chance to explain herself more rational. Others Defend them arguing Twilight has been known to FreakOut before, [[NotHelpingYourCase she wasn't acting in a way that lived down her accusations of jealousy]], and she failing to give any evidence that couldn't be rationalized away (like Cadance forgetting their SecretHandShake), giving them enough to justify their dismissal. That this gets non-to-minimaly addressed in Part 2, or since, means [[NeverLiveItDown it's not going away anytime soon]].
* FoeYay: The IncestYayShipping for Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor gets more ''shippy'' after the latter calls the heroine out for saying that Cadence is evil. Watch that scene as many times as you like. It would soon start sounding like a SiblingRivalry conversation.
%%* GeniusBonus: UpToEleven with [[http://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/comments/sm22p/a_spoiler_in_the_song/ this]]. And WordOfGod says [[https://twitter.com/#!/dannyimusic/status/193926339043147777 yes, that was intentional.]]
* FourthWallMyopia: The rest of the Mane Six turing on Twilight can fall into this since, unlike audiences, they didn't get to see Twilight's flashbacks that would prove how suspiciously {{out of character|alert}} Cadance was acting. Also, the most obvious sign (different colored magic) has never been verified to be observable in-universe.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** The need for increased security at the wedding seems a more eerie in light of the issues with insufficient security at the London 2012 Olympics.
*** Even more so after the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013.
** ''Everything'' that happens to Shining Armor becomes this when in "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS5E9SliceOfLife Slice of Life]]", Cadence reveals that weddings make him cry.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Cadance is ironic because of Hasbro's pink Celestia's toys.
** Awhile back, there was a "Smug Cadence" meme which had a picture of the bride-to-be with smug face making snarky comments about her being another alicorn, her being pink, and her marrying Twilight's brother among other things. First episode airs and Cadance is shown to be very smug and snarky. In truth, the imposter was and the real deal isn't.
** During a flashback, a young Twilight Sparkle moans about how she's [[IJustWantToBeSpecial just a "regular old unicorn"]] to Cadence. This is rather ironic considering what would happen to Twilight Sparkle at [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E13MagicalMysteryCure the end of the following season]].
* IncestYayShipping: Twilight is very, very, close to her brother.
* ItGetsBetter: This episode focuses on building up characters that [[RememberTheNewGuy hard to believe we didn't hear of sooner]] and has established one making [[WhatAnIdiot less then intelligent calls]]. These set the stage for Part 2, which had enough action and payoff to make it well received in spite of the controversial setup.
* MarySue:
** [[BaseBreaker Cadance in some people's eyes.]] Her being an alicorn is the major argument for it but there are other factors common in "Pony Sues": a gradient color scheme, royalty, looked up to and admired by main characters (Twilight Sparkle has admired her since childhood), becoming adored by everypony without any effort which she does once released and able to take part in her wedding preparations, having powers not previously indicated by the show (not a major offender but it is common to such characters), and having the big day-saving scene center around her actions. On the other hand, the following episode showed that she was soundly defeated by the Hive Queen and is now nigh-powerless, and also decidedly NOT any more perfect than any other character.
** In-universe, Imposter Cadance is a Grade-A JerkSue; Twilight can't understand why her friends are defending Imposter Cadance's ridiculing their passions and what her brother sees in her.
* NeverLiveItDown: Considering the infamous MadeOutToBeAJerkass moment that happens to Twilight herself, the BrokenBase finds it doubtful to see the other Mane 6 the same way again. [[AccusationFic Fan fics]] have been made calling them out for it.
* RonTheDeathEater: Pretty extreme yes, but for everyone who walked out on Twilight, some of the cynical fans have a case of NeverLiveItDown against them.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSong: For those who are into the really obscure, [[http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x172zua_mlp-fim-bgm-cadence_music Cadence's leitmotif]] does bear a slight resemblance to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dH4U1ID_XiE the instrumental theme from Jim Henson's "Mother Goose Stories"]].
* TastesLikeDiabetes: Little Twilight and Cadance friendship dance.
* WhatAnIdiot:
** Twilight when she straight out accuses Princess Cadence that's she evil during the wedding rehearsal. What was she expecting?
** Why Twilight's friends, family and even Celestia, of all ponies, had suddenly forgotten that Cadence had been acting like a jerk to them, and was {{Not H|imself}}erself today, especially after Twilight says that she is evil. This might be mitigated by the whole "getting stressed preparing the wedding" thing.
* TheWoobie: Twilight. ''Dear Celestia'', Twilight! Not only did her brother ditch her, but so did her friends and mentor... and then she turned out to be right!
