* AcceptableTargets: For Bob, "hardcore gamers," jocks, various forms of -ists (racists, sexists, etc.), Creator/MeganFox, Creator/MichaelBay, Mitt Romney, among others.
* AuthorsSavingThrow: In his review of TrueGrit, he takes back calling Creator/MichaelBay a douchebag. He still thinks Bay's a bad director, but that kind of crossed the line.
* BaseBreaker:
** The Game Antithinker definelty qualifies. He's either a nice comedic divergence, or another annoying and pointless TakeThat to MovieBob's opinon of "hardcore gamers".
* BrokenBase:
** "The Emperor Has No Clothes" & "Heavens to Metroid" have produced this.
** Not even to mention the Anti Thinker arc, and what that now has lead to.
** Bob's views on "Retake Franchise/MassEffect". Some feel that this was a welcome rebuttal to the more vocal elements of the gamer community, while others feel that he is CompletelyMissingThePoint as to why people didn't like the ending to VideoGame/MassEffect3.
* CompletelyMissingThePoint: Bob has taken a lot of flak for comparing himself to Sherlock Holmes in his review of the movie with the same name, most people seemingly overlooking the fact that what Bob was lampshading his own antisocial tendencies and his occasionally oversized ego. In other words, it was more of a TakeThat directed at himself than it was any kind of exultation or claim to superior intelligence.
** Many feel like he was missing the point of "Retake Franchise/MassEffect" by saying they wanted a happy ending. When supporters of it often just feel the endings was rushed or not different enough (Bob flat-out admitting that he hadn't played any of the games and only watched the three endings on YouTube after his piece didn't help much, as many said something along the lines of "You don't have the emotional investment in the trilogy to understand why we want these endings changed.").
* CrowningMomentOfFunny:
--> "The subwoofer was never meant to be weaponized."
** When he gives the Pool Cleaning Robot from ParanormalActivity Best Character of the Year in his 2010 MovieBob Awards Video.
* DontShootTheMessage: There are fans who focus primarily on the message and talking points rather than MovieBob's abrasive attitude.
* EveryoneIsJesusInPurgatory (It's called "The Game Overthinker", after all.)
* Hatedom: Quite a large one on Website/TheEscapist.
** And TV Tropes, apparently. It's very telling that the his DethroningMomentOfSuck page comes before his main page when doing a search for him on the site.
* HateDumb: While MovieBob does garner a mixed reaction from all sides of the internet, he does get a lot of trolling and over the top hatred that goes too far in attacking him. The most prominent example of this was a Troll who set up a Twitter account for the GIFT sole purpose of posting "Bob is fat" repeatedly.
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: Many of his rants comes very close to what "hardcore frat boys" talk and act like (or at least what he thinks they do). The very first episode is particularly notable in this regard.
* HypeBacklash: Eventually received this, probably after his move to ScrewAttack and him going to The Escapist.
* JumpTheShark: The Game Antithinker "Arc" can be seen as this.
* OlderThanTheyThink: Some Escapist viewers who know him mainly for "Escape to the Movies" and "The Big Picture" were surprised to hear about his previous series "The Game Overthinker".
* TheProblemWithLicensedGames: Discussed in Episode 16 of "The Game Overthinker," as advice to non-gamer gift-giver.
* SeasonalRot: The ChannelHop to ScrewAttack has resulted in some weaker videos in some people's eyes. The Game Antithinker is considered being a JumpTheShark moment for some.
* ShockingSwerve: Episode 43 of "The Game Overthinker", where the Antithinker is introduced. Before then, the show was completely grounded in reality, without the slightest indication that it was about anything other than a man talking about video games, or that said man is actually portraying a fictional character and not himself. After that, NothingIsTheSameAnymore.
* StrawmanHasAPoint: Discussed in "Building A Better Gamer." To paraphrase, gamers may not be the violent psychopaths waiting to happen that politicians tend to portray them as but they're also not helping matters by being grody, disturbingly rude sociophobes.
** Many feel that the Strawmen they feel he creates have better arguments than him.
* WhiteKnighting: A lot have accused him of doing this for Anita Sarkeesian, and we'll just leave it at that.
* WinBackTheCrowd: Many of his The Big Picture videos, such as "Not Okay" and "Pink is Not the Problem," have gained positive attention for their messages.
