* CanonSue: The episode ''Twisted Truths'' introduced Tomas, a [[TheAce prodigiously-skilled fighter]] who was trained to fight in the Mortal Kombat tournament that was won by [[TheHero Kung Lao]], but prevented from competing by an avalanche which destroyed his village. Every female character instantaneously swoons over him, and [[TheChick Taja]] falls in love with him. He wins a sparring match with [[TheLancer Siro]] by [[CurbStompBattle breaking his arm within seconds]] - [[GodModeSue by accident]]. Kung Lao, on the other hand, [[ConflictBall regards him with suspicion and hostility]] and is [[IdiotBall easily fooled by Shao Kahn's plot to frame him for murder.]] Shao Kahn also [[CreatorsPet explicitly states]] that [[AlwaysSomeoneBetter Tomas is a better fighter than Kung Lao]], and sure enough, when they finally clash at the end of the episode, Tomas is clearly winning before before being distracted long enough for Kung Lao to gain the upper hand. At the end of the episode, Tomas [[HeroicSacrifice sacrifices his life]] to save Kung Lao from an assassin.
* HarsherInHindsight: The ending to the show, where [[spoiler:Shao Kahn kills everyone]], is oddly prescient of ''VideoGame/MortalKombat9'', which ends with [[spoiler:Shao Kahn killing ''almost'' everyone]]. In both cases, Raiden unwittingly caused the destruction.
* InformedWrongness: As {{Phelous}} pointed out in the episode ''Thicker Than Blood,'' Siro had every right to be cold towards his ex-fiancée (played by Creator/EvaMendes, [[RetroactiveRecognition of all people]]) since she cruelly left him for his brother. However, everyone acts like Siro is being the JerkAss in the situation. It should be noted that Phelous usually makes Siro out to be a {{Jerkass}} IdiotHero, so the fact that even he is siding with Siro here says a lot.
* IronWoobie: Great Kung Lao.
* MemeticMutation: Shao Kahn's speech at the end of the final episode has been oft-quoted on ''Mortal Kombat'' message boards, especially in the wake of ''9''.
