* EpicRiff: They're masters of this. "Boris" is a good example, so good that a [[Music/{{Boris}} whole band]] is named after it.
* FanNickname: "Jelvins" for their work with Jello Biafra. At first, this was because when the project was first announced no one was sure how it would be billed officially; later on it still saw some use because it's shorter than "Jello Biafra and the Melvins".
* CoveredUp: In a rare case where this was done almost purposely; Buzz Osborne asked the members of the band Green River why they didn't play the song "Leech" live anymore. They replied that they didn't like the song much anymore. When Buzz asked if the Melvins could cover it, Green River apparently flat-out ''gave'' the song to them. The band would later jokingly "take it back" during their 2008 reunion tour.
* {{Misblamed}}: Some criticisms of ''Pigs of the Roman Empire'' single out Lustmord for the failings. According to Buzzo, most of the issues fans had with the album were on tracks Lustmord wasn't even involved with.
* VindicatedByHistory:
** ''Stag'' was a very polarizing record on release; NME Magazine infamously rated it a 2 out of 10 and nicknamed it "Stag o' shite", and had an equally divisive response from the fanbase at the time as well. In the years since the album has received a much more positive reception, and some fans consider it one of their favorites from the band.
** The ''Joe Preston'' EP already has a contentious history with the band themselves (see the CreatorBacklash entry) and most fans agreed for a while; At one point, it was the second lowest rated Melvins release on [=RateYourMusic=] right behind ''Prick''. While the band might still be sour on it, fans have come around to it more in recent years, at the very least viewing it as a really good Preston solo drone metal album, and some even argue it as the best in the solo trilogy [=EPs=].
