* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** Was Hal [[spoiler: a BitchInSheepsClothing that let his true colors show when he had powers]] or was he a DoggedNiceGuy who [[spoiler: [[TragicVillain tragically]] [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity developed an entitlement complex after obtaining his powers]]]]?
** There are also those that believe Hal's behavior is symptomatic of some kind of AmbiguousDisorder.
** When Hal returns to confront Megamind after he [[spoiler: removes his Metro-Man disguise, he points out that only one person he knows calls Metro City "metrocity"]]. Did he [[ISurrenderSuckers pretend to fly away]] just to {{Troll}} him, or did it genuinely take him until he was partway through his escape to figure it out?
** Is Metro-Man a deconstruction of the Superman paragon - who ultimately is willing to sacrifice everything for his own happiness? Or is he a true paragon of faith who knew that Megamind could rise to the challenge and that plunging the city into darkness was necessary for both of their happiness? Also, did he simply realize that since Megamind is a PokeThePoodle sort of villain, that being a superhero against him was pointless?
* AngstWhatAngst: By any metric, Megamind had a spectacularly crappy life and upbringing- home planet destroyed, raised in jail, bullied at school, no friends except for Minion- but doesn't seem particularly bothered by most of it.
* BrokenBase: While Megamind is generally well received, it differs between those who find it to be a hilarious masterpiece while others thinks that, while it is good, it could have been a lot funnier and didn't quite reach its potential.
** [[TakeAThirdOption There's also the third sect]] of people who feel that the comedy is lacking, but that it's made up for by the more dramatic elements.
* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: One of Creator/HansZimmer's best scores, notably "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOz68UWknv0 Giant Blue Head]]" and "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_hcb8P8zVY Rejection in the Rain]]".
* DracoInLeatherPants: There are a handful of people who romanticize Hal as a loveable loser who just needed a shot at love. They fail to realise that Hal is a deconstruction of that character type and in truth is an entitled man-child who ended up threatening the entire city, simply because he got friend-zoned.
** Fans treat even Megamind this way. He may be an AntiVillain who has had a rough deal in life and all he wants is recognition and love, but he's caused enough destruction and suffering to warrant 88 life sentences, and he still cheers and gloats over Metro Man's [[spoiler: apparent]] death. [[EasilyForgiven No one, not even Roxanne, treats this seriously enough]].
* EarWorm: ♪ I have eyes. That can see. Right through leeeeeeead. ♪
* EnsembleDarkhorse: The NobleDemon inmates who genuinely care for Baby!Megamind at the beginning.
** For the video games, Psycho Delic gets some special mention thanks to Creator/KeithDavid voicing him.
* EvilIsCool: Even after [[spoiler: his HeelFaceTurn]], the film actually embraces this trope in spite of Megamind's goofiness. This is helped when [[SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic music of the calibre]] of Music/{{ACDC}} and Music/GunsNRoses plays whenever he does something badass.
* FoeYay: Like ''woah'' between Megamind and Metro Man: Megamind goes into mourning over Metro Man, bringing flowers to his statue and lamenting about all the battles they'll now never have and how it's "not the same" without him.
** Megamind is visibly ''relieved'' Metro Man isn't dead when he sees his cape flying from the explosion, a long moment before his "OhCrap, he's ''alive'' and ''coming towards me''."
** Megamind and Roxanne have a little bit of this going on among them, [[spoiler:right before Roxanne hugs Megamind.]]
** There's also the scene where Roxanne takes Megamind to [[spoiler:Metro Man's hideout]]. He's practically squeeing at all of the stuff and even puts on Metro Man's cape. Roxanne seems uncertain how to take his reaction.
* GeniusBonus: If you look carefully during the scene where the death ray is firing at Metro Man, you can tell that Metro City is in Michigan. Before automobiles moved in, copper mining was Michigan's biggest industry. Metro Man's weakness is copper. WeaksauceWeakness indeed [[spoiler: (if he hadn't been making that up)]]. Probably just a neat little coincidence, but cool if it was intentional.
* HarsherInHindsight: Titan goes on a rampage, threatening Metro City and tries to kill Megamind and Roxanne simply because she rejected him. Four years later, the Isla Vista killings happened for similar reasons.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Titan's remarks on how the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy don't exist, in light of ''RiseOfTheGuardians''.
** Megamind, holding the power infuser and dehydrator at the same time, [[Series/ZyudenSentaiKyoryuger rolls the dehydrator cylinder on his arm.]]
** Hal Stewart having a composite name of two different Green Lanterns, being voiced by Creator/JonahHill and acting clingy towards a Lois Lane expy became this when ''WesternAnimation/TheLegoMovie'' came out, which had a Green Lantern (most likely Hal Jordan) voiced by Jonah Hill acting clingy towards Lego Superman.
*** Speaking of ''The Lego Movie'', all of the "artifacts" (such as "the po-''leesh'' remover of na-''eel'') sound as if Megamind named them. Which he did... from a certain point of view.
** Take a closer look at both Megamind's and Metroman's color schemes. Now [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_dress_(viral_phenomenon) what does that remind you]]?
** When this film debuted, people were [[DuelingMovies comparing it]] to WesternAnimation/DespicableMe, based on the similar premises. Six years later, both this film and one of the biggest [[CashCowFranchise Cash Cow Franchises]] of the past few years would end up being owned by the [[Creator/{{Universal}} same studio]].
*** Megamind's sidekick is called Minion. The name sounds very different after the Minions from ''Despicable Me'' gained their ubiquitous status.
* HoYay: There's a bit going on between Megamind and Minion. BridalCarry? Check. [[ChildishPillowFight "Pillow" fight with bags of money?]] Check. Having a [[FriendVersusLover full-on breakup when Minion learns Megamind is seeing Roxanne?]] Check. Minion's first words in the entire film being "Well, hello good-looking, need a lift?" Yeah, it's not even subtle.
* ItWasHisSled: Tighten choosing to become a villain after being rejected by Roxanne. Thanks to the internet, it's no longer a twist anymore.
* JerkassWoobie: Megamind himself [[spoiler: before his HeelFaceTurn]]. His villainy is closer to the PokeThePoodle variety, but he still regularly kidnaps someone, threatens them with bodily harm, and (unsuccessfully) tries to kill his nemesis. On the other hand, his planet was destroyed, had a potential family stolen from him by a coincidence, ''grew up in a prison'' and was ostracized as a child for (arguably) doing the exact same things Metroman did.
** Bernard. How would you feel if you [[spoiler:woke up in a ''washing machine'' after God knows how long, only to get immediately knocked out again by a mechanical fish-ape?]] Poor guy.
%%* LauncherOfAThousandShips: Megamind
* MoralEventHorizon: Tighten going on an rampage over Roxanne rejecting him is bad enough but willing to kill Megamind and Roxanne crossed this.
* MostWonderfulSound: The opening notes of "Welcome to the Jungle." In-story too: just look at the expression on Roxanne's face.
* OneSceneWonder: The real Bernard appears in two scenes. One has him acting cold towards Roxanne and mocking Megamind's "costume" before being dehydrated, and the other has him [[spoiler:rehydrated by Minion and getting whacked by his stick.]]
* PeripheryDemographic: Given how superficial the [[NeverTrustATrailer trailers]] made the film seem, the target audience looked to be the 6-11 year-old male demographic, but the romantic aspects (which weren't advertised at ''all'') led to a [[EstrogenBrigade large fanbase of women in their 20's]].
* {{Squick}}: "Come out you little ''freak!'' I wanna see what that ''BIG BRAIN LOOKS LIKE ON THE PAVEMENT!''"
* TheyPlottedAPerfectlyGoodWaste: As Megamind talks to Minion about who they should make into a hero, and how this hero should be "someone of noble heart and mind, who puts the welfare of others above their own", he is interrupted by his mobile ringing. ''It's Roxanne''. She is ''right outside''. Because she ''tracked him down to stop him''.
* UglyCute: Minion.
