* AdaptationDisplacement: The Nelvana animated series is more well-known to the general public than the original (and ongoing) children's book series of the same name by Creator/RosemaryWells.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The jazzy score for the episode "Max is It!", during the scenes where Max, Ruby, Louise, and Valerie play Freeze Tag. The saxophone solo in this score is just perfect.
* BrokenBase:
** When the show is brought up, expect people to take sides between the two title characters and fight to the death. Max is generally the one most people root for, but Ruby has a strong fanbase too.
** The [[Main/{{Retool}} Retooling]] in seasons six and seven. One half welcomes the changes, thinking they give some nice development to the characters. The other half dislikes the changes, thinking the changes were unnecessary (especially the changes to Max).
* DesignatedMonkey: Ruby likes to screw Max over. He's very good at screwing her back.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments:
** The ending to the episode "Goodnight Max" where it ends with Max falling asleep while wishing goodnight to Walky Talky Bear with it replying to Max's comment.
** A sweeter ending similar to that episode is "Max's Rubber Elephant" where Max finally founds his toy elephant under a pile of stuff Ruby put on Max's bed. Before Max leaves his room to sleep in his sister's bed, he looks back and says "Goodnight Ruby" in a sincere tone. This moment shows that despite messing with his sister most of the time, he really cares about Ruby.
* MemeticMutation:
** Max's wide variety of [[https://web.archive.org/web/20120501211514/http://maxandruby.treehousetv.com/content/assets/en-ca/characters/max/max2.png facial expressions]], which come across as rather devious for a cartoon character.
** [[MathematiciansAnswer "Beep beep, lettuce."]][[note]]A rather [[https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/001/261/081/773.jpg bizarre]] meme edit featuring the duo, where Ruby asks Max what he thinks of her outfit, and he responds with this.[[/note]]
* {{Moe}}:
** A lot of characters on this show count, such as Max and Ruby themselves.
** Martha and Baby Huffington are also very cute looking characters.
* OlderThanTheyThink: Before the Nelvana animated series, Weston Woods Studios made two animated direct-to-video adaptations of the "Max & Ruby" series for ''Scholastic Storybook Treasures''. The first was ''Max's Christmas'' released in 1988, and ''Max's Chocolate Chicken'' which was adapted in 1991.
* SugarWiki/SweetDreamsFuel: Love the show or hate it, you have to got admit there are some moments that can give you a warm and happy feeling. The soundtrack most of the time is also very laid back and gives you a feeling like you're home.
* RetroactiveRecognition:
** Max as Logan from ''Series/{{Heartland}}''.[[note]]Logan is played by one of Max's voice actors, Drew Davis.[[/note]]
** Ruby as [[Series/TheWalkingDead Alpha]].
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Some fans were not happy with the 2016/2017 season, specifically with bringing in the parents, updating the theme song, the janky animation, and having Max speak in full sentences.
* UnintentionallySympathetic: Ruby is this in episodes where she doesn't bother Max, given how he screws up her plans and gets away with it.
