* [[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff Americans Love Zyuranger]]: See SoOkayItsAverage below. Despite being considered as such in Japan, it has a cult following in America (particularly with fans of MightyMorphinPowerRangers).
** So much so that it's now getting an American DVD release!
* BadassDecay: Averted with Burai. Despite being benched until the last minute in fights, he still manages to be awesome.
* BizarroEpisode / BigLippedAlligatorMoment: At one point Dan and Mei turned into punks, and they suddenly attended gambling joints and assaulted mafias, ''actually killing them''. That stuff was never brought up when they returned to normal, and none of the Zyurangers called them out for it.
** It was brought up, with Dan and Mei feeling [[AngstWhatAngst more embarassed about it than anything else]]. Then they get chased by some punks they had harassed earlier, who want to work for them.
* BreakoutCharacter / EnsembleDarkhorse: Burai. He's one of the most memorable aspects of the show, and all Sixth Rangers to appear later in the franchise owe their existences to how much the fans loved him.
** It's the same deal with [[Series/MightyMorphinPowerRangers his American counterpart.]]
** Exemplified with the Zyuranger SHFiguarts release - while typical Sentai Sixth Rangers are either Web Exclusives or are released after the Reds, Dragonranger was released at retail [[CueTheFlyingPigs before Tyrannoranger.]]
* EarWorm: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiXbRhnPvhU The opening theme.]]
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyNbF4J64Kk Also]], Bandora's VillainSong.
* EvilIsCool: Burai, pre-HeelFaceTurn.
* EvilIsSexy: Lamie - played straight when in her normal form, but subverted when enlarged by Bandora at which moment she becomes an ugly monster, making Ami Kawai (the actress playing as her) feel pretty embarrassed whenever that happens.
* FridgeLogic: In the final episode, [[spoiler: how did Kai survive the Dora Talos exploding long enough to make it back to Bandora Tower?]]
** Wait, in the final episode why did the Zyurangers [[spoiler: entrust the baby dinosaurs to children?!]] Yep, no possible way that can go wrong. To be fair, [[spoiler: the baby dinosaurs are the last pair of dinosaurs on Earth, and should the eggs they were hatched from be destroyed, then the dinosaurs would be forever extinct from the world.]]
*** To be both smart AND fair, [[spoiler: the baby dinosaurs should've been given to scientists or the authorities.]]
* HarsherInHindsight: Remember at the beginning of episode 6, when Geki gets transported to that strange land by Guardian Beast Tyrannosaurus, and sees the toppled Tokyo Tower? Well, let's all remember a certain travesty that took place in Tokyo years later. [[spoiler:It was the earthquake/tsunami.]]
* HilariousInHindsight: The closing theme was deliberately Latino-styled. [[Series/ZyudenSentaiKyoryuger Hmm...]]
** Eleven years later, in [[Series/BakuryuuSentaiAbaranger another dinosaur-themed Sentai]], a scenario where a [[EnsembleDarkhorse fan-favorite]] evil Sixth Ranger who wields a dagger as his WeaponOfChoice and pilots a [[DinosaursAreDragons dragon]] mech who later [[HeelFaceTurn turns good]] (but [[RedemptionEqualsDeath didn't live long enough]]) repeats again.
* ItWasHisSled: The final fate of the Dragon Ranger is probably the most commonly pointed out difference between ''Zyuranger'' and its American counterpart.
* LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt: [[spoiler:Oh yes, they would. Would what? Make Burai stay dead and not come back.]]
* {{Moe}}: Mei. Super cute face provided by Reiko Chiba? Check. [[CuteButCacophonic High pitched voice]]? Check. Innocence? Aplenty, so check. Bonus points for being BadassAdorable.
* {{Narm}}: So, so much. It doesn’t help (or rather, ''[[SoBadItsGood does]]'' help) that ''bandora'' is Arabic for ‘tomato’, and Witch Bandora’s VillainSong is clearly influenced by Arabic music (she even does a little shoulder shake!).
** NarmCharm: Considering how big a cult classic it is [[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff in America]] (enough to the point where it's even getting an American DVD release), the series' [[SpecialEffectsFailure low budget scale]] and all other {{Narm}}-ish qualities are more than likely seen past due to its more epic storyline than [[MightyMorphinPowerRangers its American counterpart]].
* NightmareFuel: Dai Satan and his laugh. Just the idea of a big blue floating head in the sky!
** The process of summoning Dai-Satan. First, 13 children at 10 years old get sucked into anything that has a reflection. Then they're all sealed while being aware into a tall, disturbing tower, with their face and hands visible, and suspended there, to be sacrificed for Dai Satan himself. That and during the process of summoning him, Bandora is supposed to be weakened and near death as she continues the ritual and to top it off she screams that she's gone blind and we clearly see blood running from her eyes, she does get restored to normal once she successfully summons Dai-Satan.
** Then there's [[BackFromTheDead what]] [[OneWingedAngel happens]] [[BodyHorror to]] Dora Franke. ''Goodness gracious''.
** Burai's nightmare before his death. Nothing's scarier than the thought of you dreaming of you about to die and it's going to happen... Except for Burai himself, when he saw that there's one boy about to get claimed soon, and that's when Burai started freaking out, it looks like for him, not saving the boy is scarier than going to the afterlife alone.
** ''Zyuranger'' in general is one of the scarier seasons of the series. And this is a season with heavy focus about kids. You know, for kids!
* NewerThanTheyThink: The tradition of having all the Sentai titles end with the suffix "-ranger" actually began here. The only shows prior to ''Zyuranger'' to have the word "-ranger" were ''Goranger'' and ''Turboranger'' (and even then, the former actually used "[[SpellMyNameWithAnS Gorenger]]" on the show). In fact, 9 of the 15 shows prior to ''Zyuranger'' actually ended with suffix "-man" (starting from ''Denziman'' and all the way to ''Jetman'').
* PlotTumor: Burai's subplot ended up taking a lot of scrrentime, particularly towards the end. Since we're talking about [[EnsembleDarkhorse Burai]],[[TropesAreNotBad no one's complaining.]]
* TheProblemWithLicensedGames: The ''Zyuranger'' game for the Famicom had some weird ideas on how to adapt its source material. For example, one segment involves Daizyuzin facing off against Dragon Caesar in a deadly match of [[spoiler:table ping pong]].
* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped: [[spoiler:Burai's death]] was supposed to show that sometimes the heroes can die in battle.
* SoOkayItsAverage: The show isn't bad, but it's not a fan favourite. The general consensus is that Burai is great, and that's it.
** It ''does'' have a strong cult following in America, [[MightyMorphinPowerRangers for obvious reasons]]. Grown-Ups In Spandex's fansub release also helped in this regard.
* SpecialEffectFailure: Happens from time to time, due to having a lower budget than the previous series.
* TearJerker: [[spoiler: Burai's death. Kai's death may also qualify.]]
** A late episode when the imitation Zyurangers appear may count. For the first time in Sentai, rather than creating evil imitations for solely fighting the Sentai, this one is used to make Zyurangers look like bad guys, and it ''shows'' when a mother slapped Mei right on the face when she's just helping a kid, followed by the people throwing stones to the Zyuranger and driving them away. Hell, to hammer it home, aside of the lamentations of the heroes, we're also given with the second time Mei is visibly crying (the first time is [[spoiler:when Burai died]]). Of course, by the end they came back to life, but before that, it was a pretty powerful scene too.
** Bandora's sobbing fit when [[spoiler:Kai]] dies for the second time.
* TooCoolToLive: [[spoiler:Burai. To the point where fans ''tried to start a letter writing campaign to bring him back''. It didn't work.]]
* TheWoobie: [[spoiler:Again, Burai. Even long after his HeelFaceTurn, it is revealed that he was killed by natural disaster while suspended in animation and given only a temporary extra life by Clotho under Daizyujin's orders. And if that isn't depressing enough, we soon learn that, for unknown reasons, he could not be revived after dying a second time, despite his efforts to stay alive while using up the remainder of his life outside the Lapseless Room where he could remain alive, only to have it destroyed by Bandora. Burai could easily have the most tragic life in the entire Super Sentai franchise. However, even if Burai is pretty justified for angsting about that, he instead takes the path of IronWoobie, he'll use his short time to help Geki when he can, and when he's nearly dying for real, he uses his time to befriend and protect a similarly dying boy even at cost of his... limited time.]]
** By extension, this would make [[spoiler:Geki]] one as well.
