* {{Adorkable}}: Sawako is socially awkward at first but it makes her even more loveable and cute.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic
** Three songs which share the same title with the series.
** The theme song itself is pretty sweet and very catchy, but the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cjCM22KfQA full music video]] is what tops it. The Seiyuu of the main cast did a cover of said theme. Something about hearing Sawako, Kazehaya and the others singing together just feels right.
** The live action movie's [[http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/sxuTusYDnQQ/ theme song]] is pretty awesome as well.
** The second season's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2I7xgssNIkU ending theme]] is a very touching song to listen to.
* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** Kurumi is either an irredeemably [[ManipulativeBitch manipulative]] and nasty human being who doesn't deserve to breathe the same air as the rest of the cast, or a poor, heartbroken soul who, despite her ways early in the series, [[JerkassWoobie really needs a hug.]] She is less of one among fans of the manga, in which she has very blatantly matured, becoming more goal-oriented and friendlier ([[HoYay to say the least]]) toward Sawako.
** Kento is either a sweet (albeit slightly obnoxious) guy who genuinely cares about Ayane and his other classmates, or a pushy, bumbling fool unworthy of Ayane's precious time. [[DieForOurShip (Of course, the latter group tend to be hardcore AyaPin shippers]], but there are exceptions). In a reverse of Kurumi's situation, it's the manga fandom that can often be harsher toward him. See BrokenBase below.
* BrokenBase:
** Throughout [[spoiler: Ayane/Kento's relationship]] and ''especially'' since Chapter 92's release, three camps seem to be forming. One blames [[spoiler: Kento]] for all that went wrong, another blames [[spoiler: Ayane]] and another finds them both equally to blame and empathizes with both sides of the issue.
** The anime is known for its very slow pacing, for it took until two seasons of the anime for Sawako and Kazahaya to finally [[spoiler:confess their love for each other and became a couple]] in the last episode of that second season.
*** Then later in the manga [[spoiler:they have finally kissed.]]
* FanNickname:
** After the incident in episode 2 where Ryu eats Sawako's homemade cookies, /a/ took to calling him "Cookie-kun".
** Analogically, "Refreshing-kun" for Kazehaya.
* FanPreferredCouple: People have been rooting for Ayane/Pin for a while, due to all the ShipTease they're given all throughout the series. Even when Ayane was dating [[spoiler:Kento]], people were still rooting for Pin. By the end of the series, the repeated ShipTease ended up as [[spoiler: foreshadowing for Ayane getting a one sided crush on Pin, but it doesn't take.]]
* HilariousInHindsight: In chapter 32, Chizu and Kazehaya have a conversation in which she casually says this line: "Yano-chin's been doing a lot of complaining about Kent lately. What do you think that's about? Love? Bwahaha!" Skip ahead about forty chapters, and [[spoiler: Kent and Ayane really ''are'' dating.]] That's right, the majority of the fandom didn't see it coming, but ''[[ObliviousToLove Chizu]]'' did.
* LesYay
** The fact that Sawako used to see Kurumi as a female version of Kazehaya, says much. In fact, ''most'' of what goes on between them in the early chapters comes off pretty [[{{Yuri}} yuri-esque]], especially when taken out of context. Chapter 89 [[http://www.mangahere.co/manga/kimi_ni_todoke/v15/c089/35.html then cranked it up to 11 between Sawako and Kurumi.]]
** Kurumi's last big scene in the manga is a brief chat between her and Kazehaya, where she confesses that [[spoiler: she used to think that Sawako was taking him away from her, when in reality it was Kazehaya who ''gave Sawako to her'' and she will always be thankful to him for that. Basically, the series ends with Sawako having a higher place in Kurumi's heart than Kazehaya does.]]
** In the manga, Ayane also gives off this vibe when sympathizing with Kurumi in Chapter 43, saying [[spoiler:"It would've been great if I were a guy, because I would understand even your worst faults."]] She repeats it in a later chapter, mentioning Kurumi among "her types of girls" and that she'd "be better for her" than Kazehaya. And then, of course, we have the credits of the live action adaptation - Sawako and Kazehaya share a moment, Sawako's parents share a moment, Chizu and Ryu share a moment, and who does Ayane share a moment with? ''Kurumi.''
** A bit of PseudoRomanticFriendship is going between Ayane, Chizuru and Sawako. ''And'' it even occurs between [[HeterosexualLifePartners Ayane and Chizuru]] in their backstory, which they even lampshaded.
** Six words: ''The cover of the second volume''.
** In fanon, Ayane tends to be portrayed as a lesbian, bisexual, aromantic, asexual or demisexual. Very few fans seem to headcanon her as straight.
* MemeticMutation:
** This is the series that added "[[BishieSparkle SPARKLES]] AND [[LoveBubbles BUBBLES]]" to /a/'s lexicon.
** Ryu has his own manga now: BLAZING BAT.
* MisaimedFandom: Some fans refuse to forgive [[BitchInSheepsClothing Kurumi]] and [[RomanticFalseLead Kento]] for their flaws and mistakes at earlier points in the story no matter how much they may develop afterward. This, however, is missing the point of [[RousseauWasRight the series and its overall theme]], to say nothing of [[AllLovingHero the views of its heroine.]] This is ''especially'' obvious in the case of the manga that continues far beyond where the anime ends, with both characters in question [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone expressing guilt for what they did wrong]] on a semi-regular basis and [[TheAtoner working hard to make up for it as best as they can.]]
* NarmCharm: The live action movie at points; not that this is a particularly bad thing.
* NeverLiveItDown: The earliest actions taken by Kurumi and Kento and how mean-spirited they could get due to [[ClingyJealousGirl clingy jealousy]] and [[EntitledToHaveYou possessiveness]] has left a lasting terrible impression on many fans, leading to what is covered in MisaimedFandom above.
* PortmanteauCoupleName: "Sawakaze", which is also the title of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPh0KUXDi5I the second opening theme]].
* RetroactiveRecognition: [[Creator/RayChase Ray Chase]] as Ryu Sanada.
* SugarWiki/SweetDreamsFuel: The series is one walking heartwarming moment, with the most sweetest female protagonist finally living a life with good friends and overcomes hardships with them whether it be romance or other troubles.
* TheWoobie:
** Poor, ''poor'', Sawako. She suffers from [[ShrinkingViolet crippling shyness,]] [[HeroicSelfDeprecation low self esteem issues]], [[FriendlessBackground grew up with next to no friends]], and [[GuiltComplex frequently blames herself for everything that goes wrong,]] even things that hardly involve her. Even when some of these traits lessen, you can't help but want to hug her when she cries.
** A lot of Ayane's CharacterDevelopment has pushed her into this position, since she spends a lot of time lamenting over [[spoiler: not being able to feel love for any of the guys she dates.]] Considering this and the fact that two of the three boyfriends we've seen her with in the series have treated her horribly, it's hard not to feel bad for her. Not to mention that she has [[HeroicSelfDeprecation some serious self-esteem issues herself.]]
** Chizu, too, as of later chapters. She's had to deal with [[spoiler: her childhood best friend confessing his love to her out of the blue and the consequent awkwardness]], culminating in [[spoiler: her slow realisation of her own feelings for him]], followed by [[spoiler: said friend announcing that he's going to go away to university.]] Her reaction to all of this is, understandably, [[BreakTheCutie not the most cheerful thing to observe.]]
** JerkassWoobie: Kurumi. She may well be an AlphaBitch in a series where this is especially obvious, but you can't help but feel sorry for her at points. Recently she's stopped being a jerkass and is in full-on Woobie territory with how obsessive she is about her studies and becoming a teacher now that her romantic dreams have been crushed.
** StoicWoobie: Ryu. He's been in love with a girl who doesn't return his feelings for [[PatientChildhoodLoveInterest pretty much his entire life]],[[spoiler: his eventual confession to said girl was rejected]] and [[spoiler: his mother died in a sudden accident when he was little]], but don't expect him to seem anything other than apathetic most of the time.
