----

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: The show itself is SoBadItsGood but to which extent this is [[SpringtimeForHitler intentional]] is debatable.
* {{Anvilicious}}: Morals are dropped... [[{{Understatement}} hard]]:
** The worst offender is Johnny Applesauce, with its "petitioning is better than violence" AssPull'd {{aesop}} despite the show itself being action-packed.
** Lampshaded, averted and subverted in later seasons[[hottip:*: (with the exception of ''X-Ray Johnny'', where the "Books is knowledge, and knowledge is power" message is hammered in once a minute with no irony in sight; ''Johnny Applesauce'' pales in comparison.)]].
** Similarly, "Green Johnny" comes off less like an episode, and more like a 13 minute {{PSA}} about [[GreenAesop recycling and going green]].
* BileFascination: Some people watch it because of the SeasonalRot.
* BrokenBase: The show does have its fans considering it's been going for six seasons; but, due to overexposure from its respective networks, many have likewise taken a hating for it.
* ClicheStorm: This show is criticized for rehashing a lot of stock cartoon plots, including ''its own''.
* CriticalResearchFailure: Mostly for the sake of RuleOfCool and RuleOfFunny.
* CrowningMusicOfAwesome - Dukey's Johnny Applesauce Song.
* DesignatedHero: One of the main flaws of the show, especially for the fans themselves, is that it's nearly impossible to root for Johnny sometimes.
** DesignatedProtagonistSyndrome: For the same reasons.
** Even the Test twins are not immune to it.
* DudeNotFunny: People in-show repeatedly calling [[TheWoobie Dukey]] ugly, and even by the show's standards, an episode which featured an alligator (who was chasing Johnny as a fish) [[NightmareFuel being torn apart by a sewer fan]], [[GoryDiscretionShot which while thankfully offscreen]], is PlayedForLaughs.
* EnsembleDarkHorse:
** Dukey is popular even among the {{hatedom}}
** Sissy is popular with the fans (especially shippers).
** Mary and Susan, who many people see as the genuine main characters.
* FanonDiscontinuity: Most of the fandom considers it a season-one-only show.
* FoeYay: Bumper does this with Johnny a lot, whether Johnny is [[UnsettlingGenderReveal crossdressing]] or not; another example was in an episode where Johnny tries to change his personality in one of his sister's machines and, when he's stuck a smooth-talking British personality, Bumper implies to like this version of him a lot.
* FridgeHorror: Altering DNA that often is likely to make most people wonder if it can have side effects in the long run.
* {{Hatedom}}: If you haven't guessed by most of the complaints on this page.
* HilariousInHindsight: Using the "Superhero Effect" to win Susan's heart is a plot reminiscent of the "Mary Jane loves Spiderman" storyline. [[OneMoreDay A storyline kicked out of the canon.]] Same goes for a comparison to "Lois Lane loves Superman", given the CosmicRetcon in {{Flashpoint}}.
* HoYay:
** Gil is noticeably always excited to see Johnny; yet when he sees Johnny's sisters, he can't even remember their names.
** Mr. Black and Mr. White, whose HoYay is kind of blatant.
** In the episode "Johnny [=McCool=]", at the end of the episode the twins are seen sighing at Gil eating a sandwich, then pans out to Gil sighing at Steve [=McCool=], and it turns out it is a picnic. [[spoiler:However the [=McCool=] presented is Dark Vegan in disguise.]]
* IdiotPlot: There are a few episodes subjected to it here and there.
* IronWoobie: Dukey is pretty much this, still having his cheerful, lovable sense of humor despite being a ButtMonkey.
* JerkassWoobie: Susan may be a bitch but she has a lot to put up with.
* LoveItOrHateIt: To put it mildly, the show has a rabid fanbase and lots of haters, with virtually nothing in-between; the show being AdoredByTheNetwork doesn't help.
* MarySue - played with because of Mary and Susan Test, whose names are based on the TropeNamer.
* MemeticMutation: '''WHIPCRACK'''
** *guitar riff*
** Johnny testing my FUCKING PATIENCE
* MostAnnoyingSound:
** The whip sound effect that happens whenever someone lifts their arm; also, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WXbJ_uB338 most of the other sound effects]], due to how out-of-place they are.
** The amount of screaming makes this show hard to watch for viewers with sensitive hearing; the number of screams is high enough to qualify as [[TVTropesDrinkingGame drinking game]] material, although [[ShmuckBait a dangerous one]].
* {{Narm}}: Rampant [[SeasonalRot after the first season]]; [[SoBadItsGood sometimes goes with the]] NarmCharm.
* NightmareFuel:
** The episode ''Johnny Test: Party Monster'', mostly the ending (although at least [[TheWoobie Dukey]] is spared)
** Dr. Wacko
** The DerangedAnimation; the frequent screaming
** "Roller Johnny" and especially the {{genderflip}}ped Dukey featured in it.
* OneSceneWonder: She-Johnny appeared for about a second in the very first episode, but that was enough to grant an awful lot of fanart; look it up on DeviantArt, or a related site.
* PeripheryDemographic: due to Dukey and, well, [[FurryFandom furries]].
* SeasonalRot: Season One was SoOkayItsAverage despite the potential it showed, but things went downhill in Seasons Two and Three (although enjoyable due to their SoBadItsGood value); Season Four saw a slight improvement.
* TheScrappy:
** Johnny. Yes, the main character, for most viewers (fans and haters alike).
** Also, Johnny's dad; even the writers [[ChewToy don't seem to like him a lot.]]
** Bling-Bling Boy: lot more creepy than funny.
* SnarkBait: due to the already mentioned SoBadItsGood aspect.
* SoBadItsGood: Admittedly, more than a few fans will admit this.
* SoOkayItsAverage: The show is so mediocre or below-average, that it's not worth it's AdoredByTheNetwork status.
* {{Squick}}:
** Johnny and Sissy look like siblings. Aside from that most likely unintentional instance, there's the writers' apparent fondness for ScrewYourself and everything related to it.
** The scene towards the beginning of "Johnnyitis" in which Johnny, desperate to become sick in order to have an excuse to miss a big history test, eats a sick woman's ''used tissue''. Said woman also had ''snot draining from her nose.''
* TearJerker: "Bath Time For Johnny". This episode makes you wanna give [[TheWoobie Dukey a big, warm hug and tell him everything is gonna be okay]]; after all, [[BreakTheCutie Dukey cried for nearly the entire episode because he thought Johnny forgot his birthday.]]
** HeartWarmingMoments: Though Johnny did make up for it in the near end of the episode by giving Dukey a huge pool.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks:
** As of Season Five, Dukey [[TheOtherDarrin now has]] the same voice actor as Johnny's Dad, which proved an unpopular decision at best; the same goes for the change of Mary's voice actress.
** Season Two is this but that's mostly due to some fans being put off by the shift in animation after Season One; compared to ''WesternAnimation/{{Cyberchase}}'' and ''{{Caillou}} which had did similar but only after four seasons, JT at least had the common sense to switch early.
*** Though sadly by Season Five, the animation got even worse than before.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter:
** What non-fans tend to think of Dukey.
*** Same for Mary and Susan.
** Essentially, major characters get this treatment in favor of Johnny.
** TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: due to the above-explained reason, and the borderline lack of ADayInTheSpotlight for supporting characters.
* UncannyValley: Speed [=McCool=] and Monkey; although that's probably intentional.
** The DerangedAnimation (starting in season two and getting worse from there) and bizarre, strangely exaggerated facial expressions (along with most characters' lack of pupils) are surprisingly unsettling; none of this is helped by the unappealing (or just plain ugly in some cases) character designs.
* UnfortunateImplications: The show's outright hatred for [[CatsAreMean cats]], have pretty much angered many cat-lovers; it doesn't help that in an episode, "Johnny of the Jungle" involving the zoo, the one animal that turned towards Johnny, [[VillainBall was a lion who just didn't like Johnny]] and was the main antagonist of the episode.
* WereStillRelevantDammit: there's a noticeable amount of perceived desperation to appeal to kids (most episodes' titles [[ItsAllAboutMe have Johnny's name in them]]), appalling most people.
** Probably the worst example of this would be the YouTube (or rather, [[BlandNameProduct "Snoobtube"]]) episode... in 2010.
*** In fact, typing down the website redirects you to Nick.com.
* WhatAnIdiot: Johnny's idea to replace toy cereal prizes with real, lethal laser guns for kids isn't a good idea.
* TheWoobie:
** Dukey, who always seems to get frozen in a block of ice or turned to stone. Also, that one episode where Johnny "forgot" his birthday and he sobbed his heart out for nearly the whole episode (see TearJerker above). Last but not least, most people go out of their way in the show to point out how ugly he is.
** Mary and Susan, on occasion.
