* AudienceAlienatingEra: The last two albums of their original run, ''Bark'' and ''Long John Silver'', were lukewarmly received, viewed as unfocused and unmemorable. The 1989 reunion album was also considered underwhelming.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: "White Rabbit" and "Somebody to Love" from ''Music/SurrealisticPillow'' are both regarded as defining songs of TheSixties.
* CoveredUp: Grace Slick brought both "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit" with her from the Great Society, and the Airplane versions are a bit different than the originals (even though Slick still sings lead).
* HilariousInHindsight:
** "White Rabbit" begins with the immortal line "one pill makes you larger" -- but considering how old they've gotten, that line has probably taken on an entirely new meaning for some of the male bandmates.
** It also takes a new meaning when you find out that their first public performance was in a San Francisco club called "Film/TheMatrix".
* MisattributedSong: Shocking Blue's "Venus" was so much InTheStyleOf Jefferson Airplane that some listeners incorrectly assume they did the song.
* NightmareFuel: "The House at Pooneil Corners" from ''Music/CrownOfCreation'' due to its menacing intro melody, chaotic sound, lyrics about nuclear war and Jorma Kaukonen's air raid siren-like guitar line. Also, the cover, which depicts an atomic explosion.
* PopCultureUrbanLegends: Paul Kantner and Grace Slick did ''not'' name their daughter '''god''' (with a lowercase "g", "because we are humble"). Grace joked about giving the child that name, first mentioned in a ''Magazine/RollingStone'' article while she was pregnant, then later supposedly to a nurse at the hospital (who took the {{Troll}}ing seriously and reported it to the media), but the name on the birth certificate is China Wing Kantner, which is still a prime example of a HippieName bestowed by HippieParents (though Wing is actually Grace's maiden name).
* SpiritualSuccessor: Music/JeffersonStarship, which evolved into Music/{{Starship}}. There are also the offshoots Hot Tuna (Kaukonen and Casady, but most of the other Airplane members participated at various points) and the KBC Band (Kantner, Balin and Casady, formed after Kantner left Jefferson Starship in 1984).
