** A sizable number of former fans have essentially declared war on James and everyone who still supports him due to the release of the AVGN movie. The reasons vary; some say they just hated the movie so much that they can't take James seriously as a creator anymore, some are convinced that he only spent some of the budget on the movie and personally pocketed the rest, some think that the existence of the movie is offensive to begin with because it led to a slowdown in the number of normal episodes produced, and some think it's an unforgivable sin that the movie isn't free to watch online.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hz8X2A7wHyQ His refusal]] to watch and review ''Film/{{Ghostbusters 2016}}'' has drawn some very heated reactions, with some calling it an example of whiny [[ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontWatch Complaining About Films You Don't Watch]] and others believing he's justified in not wanting to do it.

** In his review of ''Film/{{Godzilla 1998}}'', he mentioned how ridiculous making Godzilla "realistic" by not making them shoot his atomic breath is like making {{Main/Spiderman}} "realistic" by not allowing him to shoot his web through his hands. [[Film/TheAmazingSpiderman Well...]][[note]]Though in context, he's making a reference to how in real life, Spiders shoot webs from their abdomen, not their limbs. He's well aware that in the comics as in the Webb films, Spidey uses wrist shooters.[[/note]]
** In his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z31naknjRyU "Bat-a-thon"]] video (done shortly after ''TheDarkKnight'' was released), he comments on the idea of a movie starring both Batman and Superman to be "dumb". [[Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice Yeah, like they'd ever do that]].

** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Kc3JqVIIJA The Dragon In My Dreams]] is a very sad video, considering it's one of James' more personal ones. It's about James wanting to revisit the playground that bestowed his earliest memory--a nightmare where a dragon tries to eat him (the dragon was really plastic and part of the playground)--and then realizes that the one day he decides to come back, [[spoiler:the park is being renovated. Had he come a day later or even a few hours later, it probably would've been too late.]] The look on James' face as he looks at the dragon in its aged and dilapidated state [[spoiler:for the last time]] is just devastating. And then he goes away, looks at it again, and leaves [[spoiler:knowing that he'll never see it again. Worse yet, the video ends with a gallery of young James playing at the park which was being renovated.]]
** ''ROLFE: A No-Budget Dream'', a documentary about James made back in 2002, when he was still in college, closes with this sad line: "Without my movies, I'm nobody, really."

** James intended the Angry Nintendo Nerd to be a trilogy series of videos he only made for his friends. [[WebVideo/TheAngryVideoGameNerd Then YouTube entered his life!]] As [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGFqdCeyBS4 one of the podcasts]] reveals, James was highly reluctant to make another AVGN video outside of original trilogy, and it took some persuasion from Mike to convince him that it's an idea worth trying.
** James apparently intended the Angry Video Game Nerd to have a spin off series called the Angry Movie Nerd, where he would cover bad movies, beginning with the ''Film/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtlesIII''. Despite being one of his most memorable videos, ranting about movie sequels in an earlier episode, and even implying to talk about the Friday the 13th movies in the game review, this spin off never happened. Instead, he's only done movie reviews as himself since.
** He, at some early point, planned on doing an AVGN episode focusing on the Super Mario Bros. movie (or he planned on it being an entry for the abandoned Angry Movie Nerd series). However, after Nostalgia Critic reviewed it, he felt he couldn't really add much to it with his own review so he held off. He eventually reviewed the film as himself for the film's 20th anniversary.
