* AcceptableTargets: The game apparently considers street performers who pose as statues this trope. You get a trophy for beating one up, and one mission has you fight a whole crowd of [[{{Mooks}} Militia members]] disguised as them.
** The militia are sometimes seen using Confederate flags, so the game also considers Neo Confederates this.
* AwesomeMusic: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETfdt5xMc9Q Fade Away]], the end credits theme, especially if you got the good ending.
* ContestedSequel: While still mostly positive, reviews for the second game were a bit more mixed.
* CompleteMonster: [[BigBad Joseph Bertrand III]] turns ordinary human beings into the Corrupted, performs cruel experiments on Kuo, uses the Power Transfer Device to turn Vermaak 88 into Forced Conduits in a process that will eventually drive them insane, was responsible for the sacrificial death of Nix's mother and several hundred others in his attempt to activate his own Conduit powers, and tops it off by ordering the execution of any Conduits or potential Conduits in the starting move towards total genocide. In addition to all that, he also planned on selling the Vermaak as personal soldiers to major powers around the world. This man nearly started an arms race which might have sparked another World War, tugging the strings the whole time. He never fully seems to realize how terrible a monster he's become. His KarmicTransformation is completely lost on him, despite the fact that the only power he unlocked through the murder of hundreds of innocents being the transformation into a ravenous monster; the only conclusion he draws from this is that [[InsaneTrollLogic if he has become a monster through the activation of his Conduit powers, then all Conduits are monsters, and must be exterminated]].
* EvenBetterSequel
* EvilIsSexy: Nix and Bloody Mary.
* HellIsThatNoise: The first encounter with a Ravager, a Devourer, the Behemoth, the exploding Corrupted you first see after [[spoiler:Kuo is kidnapped]], and random fights that break out in the streets.
** Also during the mission where you are traveling through the swamp with Nix, there comes a point where you hear a loud stomping and growling sound in the distance, but Nix tells you to ignore it. [[spoiler: You hear the exact same sound later when you fight [[FridgeBrilliance Bertrand]]]].
* GameplayDerailment: User Generated Content can be used to collect all the UGC related trophies just be searching for missions that are deliberately short. Even further than this is a UGC mission that will auto-colloect all 305 blast shards, netting you a full power bar and the ''Just One More'' trophy.
* GoddamnBats: Shotgunners, who will use their powers to get right up in your face and hit you point blank with a shotgun blast.
** Don't forget the Spikers, which are quick, numerous, and have long range attacks on a par with any mook running around with an automatic. On the other hand, this does make Cole's melee animation for killing them, a punt, incredibly satisfying.
** ''Festival of Blood'' being about vampires contains these by default but special mention goes to the Harpies who bounce around just out of reach hanging from improbable locations shooting you with dual Uzis also the zombie civilians who swarm you during certain missions and can deal more damage with a single melee swing than the minibosses can.
* GoodBadBug: Its possible to use User Generated Content to bypass a BrokenBridge to enter the second half of the city before you're supposed to. Depending on the content there can be no enemies whatsoever, and with the power out only the blast shards will show up on the radar. Makes it very easy to find them in that area.Just remember to die before aborting the mission, or [[UnwinnableByMistake you might get stuck]].
** You can also do this without UGC, by lowering the bridge during the "power up Flood Town" mission then crossing it without launching a Tesla Missile at the next transformer.
** Large bosses such as Devourers can sometimes actually get ''stuck inside scenery'', forcing you to restart the mission, but skipping the boss.
* JerkassWoobie: Nix.
* MoralEventHorizon: Considering all the atrocities he commits, it's hard to pin down when exactly Bertrand crossed this. [[spoiler:Turns out it was before the game even began. He rounded up hundreds of poor people into the swamp, including Nix's family, and killed them all with a Ray Sphere. All to empower his transformation into a Conduit.]]
* MostAnnoyingSound: THE ICE MEN. For some, that muffled, high-pitched tone they speak in with FAR too much reverb is a BerserkButton and may have you frantically launching rockets at them or reaching for the mute button just to shut them up.
* NightmareFuel: : The Beast. Just the idea of a MagmaMan who can turn into a [[AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever giant]] is pretty damn intimidating.
** [[spoiler: Bertrand's beast form is also quite freaky. Heck, even in his human form, he comes off as scary.]]
** From the evil ending, [[spoiler: Nix's death. After defeating her, she's laying on the ground defenseless. Cole walks up, and pins her head under the amp. No prizes for guessing what happens next.]]
* PlayerPunch: [[spoiler:Both endings are a real gut punch. The Evil Ending requires Cole to personally kill Zeke. He takes multiple hits, and just keeps raising his gun. And the good ending has you go through the process of activating the RFI, knowing it will kill yourself, Kuo, and every Conduit all across the globe.]]
* TheScrappy: Nix. She's got a tragic back story, but that's treated as a licence to be insane, rather than a reason for her violent streak. It's especially noticeable because she's usually put opposite Kuo, who has more character depth. Nix is crazy, in way that makes you sit back and say, "Can people really be that crazy? I don't think so. And it looks like Cole likes her for some reason. Great, there goes WillingSuspensionOfDisbelief".
* ScrappyMechanic: The Amp, as it can be slightly difficult to control. A smaller, less notable one, would be that Cole's ability to regain health by grinding on power lines is gone.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Almost happened. Cole's redesign initially looked like [[http://infamous.wikia.com/wiki/File:IF2_Cole_Concept_Art2.png this]], but fan outcry was so bad that Sucker Punch changed him back to how he looked in the first game.
* UncannyValley: Most characters are fairly standard modern CGI. Nix, though, looks disturbingly not-human.
* TheUntwist: Many people guessed beforehand that [[spoiler: John was the Beast.]]
