* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Soren Bowie of ''Website/{{Cracked}}'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmZOZjHjT5E found his own regarding the world of 2505]]. The people of 2505 may have been dumb enough to pour salt on their crops, but they also recognized that Joe was smart enough to solve their problems and let him serve as president.
** In addition, he did point out that 2505 is unusually open minded to the point where racism and sexism seem to be forgotten, ignoring the prominence of sex sells in their culture. Even then, the news shows that men and women are both used for fanservice.
** Plus, despite his bombastic nature and sharing low IQ of 2505, President Camacho can be considered a [[ReasonableAuthorityFigure competent leader]] who actually wants to help people, and his first reaction to finding Joe is to get him find a solution to food crisis, even if the said problems are actually simple to begin with. So you could argue that it isn't so much that everyone is lethally stupid as leaders who don't consider any options beyond basic savage desires.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: President Camacho. RatedMForManly, LargeHam, and ReasonableAuthorityFigure are the traits that galvanize his statement.
* FamilyUnfriendlyAesop: The film blames poor people for their own lack of birth control and low levels of education; all while conflating class, wealth and intelligence. This is remarkably mean spirited for a film which allegedly wants to aspire to a better world. Idiocracy's take away is that the poor are to blame for the state of society (despite having little to no control over the circumstances of their lives) and that success comes from "common sense" (rather than the chance circumstances of health and education a person is born into).
* FunnyAneurysmMoment: Not Sure (Luke Wilson) was sentenced to "rehabilitation". In RealLife, Luke's brother Owen Wilson checked himself into rehab a couple of times due to depression after attempting suicide.
* HarsherInHindsight: While the future is current a ways off from the future depicted in this movie, there is some prominent AntiIntellectualism in Western society, an example of which is [[http://dailycaller.com/2017/07/29/update-not-being-stupid-is-cognitive-privilege-now-which-is-just-like-white-privilege/ this article comparing being intelligent to white privilege]].
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Creator/TerryCrews as the President gets everyone's attention by firing a gun. How does he do this later in ''Film/TheExpendables?'' [[{{BFG}} WITH AN EVEN BIGGER GUN.]]
** In the Japanese dub of the film, Creator/ToshihikoSeki voices Joe. The hilarity came with the fact he previously voiced [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED Rau Le Creuset]], another character who wants to do more or less the same plan Joe does in the film, [[OmnicidalManiac except that implies exterminating the whole human race]]. He also voiced [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny Rey Za Burrel]], who works with someone who has a less-extreme version of Creuset's plans. This also reaches another layer of hilarity if you know about the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny Destiny Plan]], except in this movie, it's completely goes the opposite way intended and it's ''self-inflicted'' rather than imposed by some BigBad.
* HypeBacklash: Many people make comparisons to this film for everything they see as a "dumb" societal trend.
* IdiotPlot: Justified. Only the two characters from the past are of even average intelligence. Even then, Joe is naive and not a natural leader.
* MisaimedFandom:
** Quite a lot of people take this movie seriously, pointing to the (purported) stupidity of modern pop culture as proof that this movie is a good predictor of the future. The filmmakers themselves eventually rolled with this, although it was more for socio-political reasons and insidious business practices than lethal stupidity causes by mass consumer culture.
** A harmless example: ''Ow, My Balls'' is depicted InUniverse as the ultimate example of [[LowestCommonDenominator lowbrow, nonintellectual culture]] and everyone who finds it even remotely funny is a complete moron. But admit it: you laughed at least a ''little'' at it.
* MemeticMutation:
** "Ah, you talk like a fag, and your shit's all retarded."
** '''BRAWNDO!'''
*** "[[CircularReasoning It's got what plants crave]]!"
** This meme is brought to you by Carl's Jr.
* MST3KMantra: Apparently, there are people who watched this movie and thought it was being as serious as ''Red Dawn'', which, as we all know, was a documentary (Citation needed).
** Same goes for people nitpicking about how it would take longer to get the electrolytes out of the soil, how come people can still ride motorcycles/play guitars/etc.
*** In the case of the guitars, this is what the Army is now teaching in Basic training. Note all of the band is in matching camoflauge, and is supposed to be the modern military. Guitar playing is probably all they do now, so they do that one thing well. To be fair, they play the same riff over and over...
* NightmareFuel: Though the premise is ridiculous, and there are those out there who take it too seriously, there remains the simple fact that human stupidity destroying society is a believable, scary thought! Making things worse, many people, including the director, believe that this kind of future is slowly becoming more and more real.
* SpiritualLicensee: Considered to be the best film adaptation of ''The Marching Morons'' ever made.
