* AntiClimaxBoss: Quasimodo is this in both the movie and the game, despite being the closest thing the movie has to a BigBad. The game is exceptionally bad about this, where ''every'' [[InNameOnly "boss"]] in the game falls into this trope. [[spoiler: To truly hammer it home, your only reward for beating Quasimodo are [[AWinnerIsYou a few words of dialouge]] immediately followed by the end credits!]]
* CreepyCute: She's 118, can turn into a bat (albeit a very adorable one), crawl on walls, can't go out during the day, and has no reflection, but otherwise, young Mavis appears to be a normal, sweet teenage girl.
* CriticalDissonance: Movie critics gave the film mixed reviews, but audiences liked it anyway; the film earned an A-minus from Cinemascore.
** In fact, the public liked the movie so much that it led the film to an opening weekend total of $42.5 million. It is the best opening weekend ''ever'' for a Sony Pictures Animation feature, topping the $30.3 million opening of ''WesternAnimation/CloudyWithAChanceOfMeatballs'' in 2009, as well as the biggest opening weekend ''ever'' for the month of September. It went on to make $358 million worldwide against a budget of $85 million. A sequel has even been announced, due to be released on September 25, 2015.
* CrossoverShip: Mavis is already being shipped with [[RiseOfTheGuardians Jack Frost]]. Other characters she's been paired with include [[WesternAnimation/TheLorax the Once-ler]] and [[WesternAnimation/CloudyWithAChanceOfMeatballs Flint Lockwood]].
* EsotericHappyEnding: So the "Zing" is described as something that only happens once in a lifetime. Too bad Mavis had it with a human who will only live a fraction of her own immortal life.
* EarWorm: The song during the DancePartyEnding is quite... divisive, but the chorus ''is'' really catchy, regardless.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Winnie
* FanNickname: '''Dr. Orpheus: The Movie''' from those who noticed a comparison between Dracula and Mavis to Dr. Orpheus and his daughter Triana from WesternAnimation/TheVentureBrothers. Both are single dads with a LargeHam nature, Orpheus has been mistaken for Dracula, both daughters are a PerkyGoth with short hair, a short skirt, and striped stockings, and both girls have an Adorkable love interest.
* GameBreakingBug: A pretty bad one for the game if you're looking for replay value. On some cartridges, if you beat the game and try to reload the save file, you will be greeted by a load error message, which prevents you from replaying it ''at all.''
* GoddamnedBats: The fish-tossing zombie waiters in the game.
* HoYay: Jonathan and Dracula. Jonathan is the only one that can get him to lighten up, the common ''romantic comedy'' trope RaceForYourLove was used with those two, and the scene where Jonathan [[spoiler: tells Mavis he hates monsters and leaves? He does that for Dracula. He ''hurts the supposed love of his life for him.'']] Of course he later says that he did it to avoid being eaten, but still.
** To a lesser extent, there's Griffin's evident crush (man-crush, maybe?) on [[EvenTheGuysWantHim Drac]]. See AmbiguouslyGay on the front page.
* JustHereForGodzilla: Most of the adult interest in this movie comes solely from the fact that Creator/GenndyTartakovsky directed it. Many people are not interested in the film itself and just want to see it because they think it will help his career if they do. The fact that he's said "if this film does well, they might let me do a ''WesternAnimation/SamuraiJack'' movie" only adds to it.
** The media has also made a huge deal over the fact that Music/SelenaGomez is voicing Mavis, and her popularity is a huge draw for the teeny-bopper crowd.
* MemeticMutation: In-universe example; anybody doing an impression of Dracula always says "blah bluh blah", though Dracula himself [[BeamMeUpScotty claims he never says that.]]
-->'''Dracula:''' I do ''not'' say "blah bluh blah!"
** In RealLife, Dracula's denial is quickly becoming a MemeticMutation in itself.
** So is Mavis' "[[PuppyDogEyes Pouty Bat Face]]."
** It's modestly popular for Website/YouTube users to edit the scene where Dracula reacts to "Sexy And I Know It" played from Jonathan's music player, replacing "Sexy" [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfonLs5L-6o with]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Na2G9CesbB0 other]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aEsQbp_XvA random]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsCXVTayGiM songs]].
* MisaimedMarketing: Seriously, did they really need to do a CoverVersion of "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXw3NYkLZZU Call Me Maybe]]?"
** And then there was "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIovU07tkhM Problem (The Monster Remix)]]"
* {{Moe}}: When Mavis' bat form puts on those adorable PuppyDogEyes....
* MostAnnoyingSound: The zombies grunting in the Nintendo3DS game. You will hear it a ''lot''.
* NoProblemWithLicensedGames: Though nothing truly outstanding, the Nintendo3DS game is pretty okay. Unfortunately, if you're unlucky to have one of those cartridges that [[GameBreakingBug crashes if you try to load a save....]]
* TheScrappy: Jonathan. GenericGuy is a reason why but [[TooDumbToLive not the only one]].
* TheWoobie: Both Mavis and Dracula. It's because of the [[InnocentBlueEyes big blue eyes]] that you just want to give them a hug.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter [=/=] CriticalResearchFailure: Quasimodo as the main "villain" of both the movie and the game. Even if you were to get over the fact that the [[TragicHero Hunchback of Notre Dame]] was anything ''but'' an evil, snobbish French chef, it will still bother you that his character is so underused that his scenes could be cropped out entirely and it won't really ruin the flow of the movie.
* VisualEffectsOfAwesome: The squash-and-stretch animation is pretty unparalleled by other CGI films ''(of course, when it's helmed by none other than Creator/GenndyTartakovsky, what did you expect?)''
