* AngelDevilShipping: Ginji and Ban.
* AntiClimaxBoss: [[spoiler: Der Kaiser after provoking Ban into a SuperPoweredEvilSide, goes down in one hit after his son manages to hit him, and after a long curb-stomp battle on his part]]
** Ban loves doing this. He tends to have these victories.
** [[spoiler: Also the Voodoo King appears in one volume after all the build-up to him and he's not even the main focus]]
** [[spoiler:Ginji vs Ban. Their fight was just a dream.]]
* AssPull: Just how many powers does Akabane have?
** [[spoiler:Himiko is Ban's sister? How does that make sense? Why didn't Der Kaiser mention her? Why doesn't Ban share the same curse as Himiko?]]
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: It turns out that Himiko is actually [[spoiler:Ban's sister but not Yamato's. How is that important? How does that make sense with the flashbacks? In fact nobody ever mentions it again. Sounds like an AssPull.]]
* CrazyAwesome: Akabane [[spoiler: he cut a dimensional erosion just because he's Akabane, he can manipulate shadows, cannot die, make clones and create weapons out of his blood for this reason]]
* CultClassic: A good read, but not as nearly as mainstream as others series such as {{Toriko}}, OnePiece or {{Naruto}}.
* DracoInLeatherPants: Kuroudo Akabane
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Kuroudo Akabane, who's arguably ''the'' most popular and admired character in the series. He tends to fluctuate in polls as being ranked #1 and #2 (with Ban or Ginji occasionally overtaking him depending on which one was getting more character development during that particular time period in the manga's serialization).
** And to a certain degree, Juubei Kakei. If only for the trickle-down effect: Ayamine Rando notes that as soon as Toshiki's past was linked to Juubei's, his popularity shot right up.
** Yukihiko Miroku despite appearing in one arc, is very popular
* FoeYay: Akabane and Ban/Ginji, no wonder Ginji gets so nervous when he's around. And taken UpToEleven, there's the one-sided Takuma Fudou and Ban.
** Fudou's the human incarnation of it, being almost as bad as [[Manga/BlackCat Creed]].
* HarsherInHindsight: Before the final arc started there was a scene in which Ban saw Himiko in the shower and smiled. Later [[spoiler:Ban confesses Himiko is his sister... Oh boy.]]
* MemeticMolester: Akabane
* {{Narm}}: Akabane lectures Himiko in the Voodoo Child arc for trying to kill her enemies, [[{{Hypocrite}} says the man who prefers killing]].
* NightmareFuel: The manga definitely is this, starting with Ban's illusions which are much DarkerAndEdgier than the anime, graphic violence, etc.
* PlotTumor: The Limitless Fortress and the final arc in general seemed to drag far too much importance that it diminishes the rest of the characters' developments
* TheScrappy: Even without a name, [[EveryoneCallsHimBarKeep High School Girl]] was a {{Filler}} character was a demanding and dislikable character.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Professor Makube. For having such a significant name, this character is barely explored.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: In the last arc, it brings up a unique element in [[spoiler: ExoticEyeDesigns with a single cross stigmata eye with a great deal of the major characters including Masaki, Ban's dad and Kazuki]], but all that is brought up on it is that those who bare it, have set up "an important destiny".
** Also the final arc would have been a great way to resolve all the individual conflicts of the characters [[spoiler: but soon becomes a dragged out brawl with a great deal of anti-climatic fights and the revelation of the world being virtual reality]]
* UnfortunateImplications: When Ban has to [[spoiler:kiss a man to revive him, Himiko and Hevn's reactions are incredibly homophobic.]]
* UnpopularPopularCharacter: In-verse, Akabane is treated like the plague considering the policy of ThouShallNotKill, but is constantly one of the most popular characters for being so AffablyEvil and generally enjoying his work.
* WhatAnIdiot: None other than the intellectual badass Ban Mido for spamming his Evil Eye in the last story arc. It is because of this that [[spoiler:he nearly dies in the climax.]]
