!!The comic:
* SugarWiki/AwesomeArt: A necessity for a comic without words, Jim Woodring's lush drawings bring the hallucinatory dreamscape to life in vivid detail. Really, for sheer atmosphere and surrealism, it looks like no other comic ever drawn.
* CriticalDissonance[=/=]AcclaimedFlop: While Frank has never seen large sales, it has nonetheless won critical acclaim and fan recognition.
* HilariousInHindsight: Jim Woodring originally considered have the characters say the most horribly vulgar things imaginable. [[{{Webcomic/Jerkcity}} We don't need to imagine what that would have been like.]]
* NightmareFuel: Plenty of it, and it's all ''super'' weird. The cartoonish aesthetic arguably makes it that much worse.
* {{Squick}}: Some of the violence can get pretty graphic at times.
* TheWoobie: Manhog, when he's not being a [[MoralEventHorizon complete jerk]].

!!The film:
* EsotericHappyEnding: Frank comes up with a brilliant song and reunites with his band, so he'll be alright, but Jon quit his job and spent his life savings trying to get the band up and running. Now he's parted ways with them and is broke in a foreign country. Even if he manages to get back to England, he'll still be unemployed.
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome: Frank's first appearance and his performance of the song [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEJu9WJaMLo The Ginger Crouton]]. After seeing Jon struggle to form lyrics well enough to write a whole song, it's quite refreshing to hear a series of random words sung by someone who clearly does not give a damn.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Poetic or not, the band's decision to [[spoiler:cremate Don's remains]] is highly questionable. There is no indication that they have [[spoiler:reported Don's death to the proper authorities, made an effort to locate his next of kin, found out what his own wishes were, etc.]] before going through with it.
