* ArchivePanic: The strip has been running since April 1988, although this has been mitigated by it changing to Sundays only at the end of 2006.
* AluminumChristmasTrees: A strip from the early '90s has Jason sending a suggestion to Disney about a planned theme park in Virginia. Disney [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney%27s_America really did have plans to do this]] at the time.
* BrokenBase: The April 01, 2012 strip (the one with Jason watching the ''Series/GameOfThrones[=/=]WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' crossover) split the fanbase up into whether Bill Amend was supposed to be portraying bronies positively or negatively. One brony was so hurt over the comic, he [[AlternativeCharacterInterpretation made a theory that Jason's shocked face was of delight, and he was looking for a pitchfork because the episode was]] ''fake''. Then again, it's relatively clear which series Jason favors as a proud nerd who doesn't like works tailored for girls or young children.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: In one comic after Paige is given an Aquarium, she [[ArtisticLicenseAnimalCare is given guppies and an Angelfish]]. She feeds them and says "That's right guppies, eat the fish food. That's right Mr. Angelfish, eat the fish-[[BlackComedy FOOD! I said eat the fish FOOD!]]". Peter observes this and says "I hope guppies reproduce quickly."
* FridgeBrilliance: At [[SouvenirLand 'Fun Fun Universe']] there's a mascot on every bag and hat in the park. [[spoiler:It's a mosquito.]]
** During one final Paige's feeling sick during a dissection being caused by a upcoming math exam makes sense, she's terrible in math and a previous storyline showed us she enjoys dissections.
* GeniusBonus: If we listed them, we'd be here all day. Let's just say that Amend is a physics major and it shows.
* GrowingTheBeard: It was originally a fairly normal nuclear family sitcom type strip. Then in 1989, Jason dressed up as Batman to see [[Film/Batman1989 the movie]], introducing the pop culture and geek tones that would come to define the strip at its peak.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** [[http://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/1996/05/20 This comic]] became less funny after the death of [[Film/GrizzlyMan Timothy]] [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_Treadwell Treadwell]].
** The strip dealing with Roger's nightmare about his stock accounts being worthless if donated certainly qualifies as well.
** "The day many of you have been dreading[[labelnote:Context]]The first math test of the year, or more specifically, Jason exulting over it.[[/labelnote]] has arrived." This strip ran on [[UsefulNotes/TheWarOnTerror 9/11]].
** One strip has Jason and Quincy watching ''Series/CrocodileHunter'', with Creator/SteveIrwin getting attacked by crocs and Quincy rooting for his fellow reptiles by wagging his tail excitedly. This obviously became a lot less funny after Irwin was killed by a stingray in 2006.
** [[https://www.gocomics.com/foxtrotclassics/2014/12/19 This strip]] has Jason yelling at Paige for enjoying ''[[Film/TheLordOfTheRingsTheReturnOfTheKing Return of the King]]'' because she [[EstrogenBrigade has a crush]] on Creator/OrlandoBloom, as opposed to being a long-time Tolkien geek like he is. A lot of what Jason says would later become common rhetoric for toxic fandoms and gatekeepers who furiously try to keep women out of geek culture.
--->'''Jason:''' Stop gushing about the movie! You aren't allowed to!\\
'''Paige:''' Why not?\\
'''Jason:''' The "Lord of the Rings" films are for people like ''me'' to love!
* HilariousInHindsight: Thanks to being as ReferenceOverdosed as it is, this strip has run into this quite a few times:
** Pretty much any comic where Jason expresses enthusiasm about the ''Franchise/StarWars'' prequel trilogy is this. In one especially hilarious instance, he starts spreading false information in the hopes of getting an opening day ticket; one of his claims is that Lucas decided to remove all the CG effects, resulting in [[TheScrappy Jar-Jar Binks]] becoming "Jar-Jar Binks, Jedi Master of Invisibility". Now consider the Phantom Edit...
*** The week of strips leading into ''Film/AttackOfTheClones'' ended with Jason telling Paige "What are the odds of a die-hard fanboy like me saying anything negative?"[[note]]The main joke of the comic being Amend lampshading the fact that he had to write about the movie in vague, noncommittal terms since he wouldn't get to see it until everyone else did[[/note]]. ''Clones'' consistently ranks at or very close to the bottom of almost every ''Star Wars'' fan's favorite movie lists.
** Also, the strip where Jason and Marcus attempt to pitch an idea to Hollywood of making a sequel to ''Film/{{Titanic 1997}}'' detailing a bigger, faster, and more safe one than before (which sinks because Paige Fox goes on it due to a lottery ticket) becomes even more funny when they actually did make [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titanic_II_(film) a Titanic sequel in 2010]], this time a disaster-genre film.
** In one strip from June 1988, Peter calls a woman on the phone, who thinks he's someone named "Steve", causing Peter to ask who Steve is. Four months later, we meet Peter's best friend, named Steve.
** Jason's idea of adding in a "Darth Jason" character to the special editions of the Star Wars original trilogy (who also becomes a Sith Lord) becomes either hilarious or not as funny when ''Literature/LegacyOfTheForce'' has Jacen Solo becoming a Sith Lord. Likewise, Jason becoming a Sith while Luke (who is Jason's older brother) remains a Jedi in his drafts definitely become hilarious when one takes into account ''VideoGame/StarWarsBattlefrontEliteSquadron'', which does have the main character (X2) becoming a Jedi and his brother (X1) becoming a Sith.
*** And then there's the post-Disney buyout sequel trilogy (which Jason inadvertently predicts when talking about having Darth Jason survive and "resurface when the sequels eventually get made" because the current ending is "[[HappyEndingOverride too darn happy]]"), where [[spoiler: Luke's nephew]] Kylo Ren has fallen to the Dark Side, which keeps the humor going. For an added bonus, Ren's a Darth Vader fanboy like Darth Jason.
*** "Darth Jason" inexplicably surviving is also hilarious in light of ''Film/TheRiseOfSkywalker'', in which [[spoiler:the ''exact same thing'' happens to [[GreaterScopeVillain Palpatine]].]]
** The Thanksgiving Sunday strip where an apocalyptic leadin leading to Peter having his 38th slice of Turkey and Jason musing about this beating out ''Film/IndependenceDay'' becomes even more funny after ''Film/TwoThousandTwelve'', which bears several similarities to the leadin regarding disasters.
** At the end of the arc where Jason got addicted to ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'' merchandise, he was musing that Bart Simpson fad is passe (which he said just because Paige brought a Bart shirt and liked it). Pretty funny when you consider that ''The Simpsons'' has become the longest running western cartoon ever and is ''still'' going to this day, but it gets better when you consider that Homer would usurp Bart's role as the most popular character a mere year or two later.
** [[http://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/1996/04/02 This one]] becomes funnier given Michael Jordan would later wear a Hitler mustache in Hanes ads.
** When [[http://www.foxtrot.com/2012/03/11/beyond-mars/ this strip was released]], fans already knew it was [[AcclaimedFlop very unlikely]] that ''Film/JohnCarter'' would ever beget a sequel.
** Roger's company is having financial trouble and has had to lay people off...his boss, Pembroke, asks him to put together graphs to justify his ''raise'', when he already ''has'' millions. Amend successfully predicted the behaviours of banks, Wall Street, and corporations post 2000, and one of the reasons that led to the Occupy Wall Street movements!
** In [[http://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/2010/10/31 the strip for Halloween 2010]], Jason dress up as Creator/GeorgeLucas, trying to justify it as scary by explaining he's planning to have all six ''Franchise/StarWars'' films in 3D, which was indeed true at the time. The strip is either this or an UnintentionalPeriodPiece nowadays, as only the 3D version of ''Film/ThePhantomMenace'' ever came out (the other five were cancelled due to Creator/{{Disney}} buying Lucasfilm and wanting to focus on Episode VII instead).
** One strip from the early 2000s has Paige keep forcing the old iFruit to sing Christmas carols while she's doing online shopping. Cue winter 2014- Amazon implemented an option that would stream Christmas carols in the background while one is shopping on their store.
** In one April Fool's Day strip, Jason is horrified because the TV network makes a joke about ''Series/GameOfThrones'' doing a crossover with ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic''. Later, ''FIM'' itself made a reference to ''Game of Thrones'' in "Tanks For the Memories" when Twilight Sparkle says "Winter is coming."
** One of the earliest strips had Jason ordering [[XRayVision X-Ray Specs]] from a comic book and embarrassing Paige by claiming that she's wearing leopard-print underwear, which she denies. About two decades later, there's a comic where Paige dresses in a leopard-print outfit to "maul" her chocolate Easter rabbit...including leopard-print undies, by her own admission.
** When Jason finds out that the way to get past an extremely tough boss in his video game is to ''not'' attack it and walk past it peacefully, he notes how "counter-intuitive" the strategy is. By 2015 we have VideoGame/{{Undertale}}, where making peace with monsters[[note]]Granted, "sparing" them generally requires proactively making the right decisions rather than simply running away or not fighting back, but someone with Jason's mindset would never figure out how to do that[[/note]] instead of attacking them is not only an option, but openly recommended within the game itself (and the only way to get the GoldenEnding).
** A 1988 strip featured Paige fainting after Nicole told her that she thought Peter was cute. Years later, in 2005, Peter threw a fit when Paige told him that she thought Steve was cute.
** One story has Paige being cheered up by a dream where she met characters from various animated Christmas specials, only for Andy to remind her that [[MoodKiller she still hasn't finished her homework that's due the next day]]; in response, an annoyed Paige grumbles "You're a mean one, [[WesternAnimation/HowTheGrinchStoleChristmas Mrs. Grinch]]." A later story has Jason creating his own take on the special, casting Andy as "The Mrs. Grinch who was Too Cheap for Christmas."
** At the end of one arc, after Jason laments the idea that ''Film/TheLordOfTheRings'' will become "mainstream", he decides he can always go back to ''Franchise/StarWars'', prompting [[AppealToObscurity a confused reaction]] from Andy. While ''Star Wars'' was indeed at a low point in 2003 (the year the strip was published), it's since bounced back into the mainstream through the ''[[WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars Clone Wars]]'' show and especially with the Disney era providing the Sequel Trilogy, SpinOff movies and various Creator/DisneyPlus shows.
** One 2003 strip had Jason dressing up as the ''WesternAnimation/SteamboatWillie'' version of Mickey Mouse, due to his mistaken belief that the copyright had expired, only for Andy to tell him that the court actually upheld copyright extensions. Come 2024 and the actual end of the copyright extensions, and the internet exploded with ''Steamboat Willie'' references, games, and comics of varying quality.
* IAmNotShazam: The family's surname is Fox, not Foxtrot.
* JerkassWoobie:
** Peter can be a jerkass sometimes (for instance the LoveLetterLunacy arc)...but along with Paige, he's the ButtMonkey of the ''[=FoxTrot=]'' universe, from his [[HighHopesZeroTalent trying to play sports despite being no good at it]] to having a girlfriend who enjoys the fact that he's a loser (and not in the "but I love him anyway" sense). It's really easy to see why he's prone to {{Jerkass}} moments.
** Also, some of Jason's more Jerkass moments towards Paige become somewhat more understandable when it was revealed that Paige often tried to scare Jason with her teddy bear. Paige can also be fairly cruel to Jason, even when he isn't directly provoking her.
** Paige may be a jerk to her brothers but Jason goes out of his way to mock her with his Paige-o-Tron comics and taunt her with Quincy, she has no friends outside from Nicole who is more popular with boys, her older brother tricked her into waiting in the rain for a fake boyfriend by writing phony love letters, all of Paige's attempts to get a hobby are treated like jokes (cooking, auditioning for a play, writing a short story), the kid she babysits for calls her "Pag" (which is also baby-talk for "pig"), she's not good at any of her classes in school (and Jason has actively tried to make her grades WORSE by giving her wrong answers when she asked for homework help) and [[AbhorrentAdmirer Morton Goldthwait]], the one boy who was willing to date her, is implied to have gotten over his crush.
** Roger is less actively jerkish than his wife and children, but often comes off as thoughtless and insensitive. However, he's stuck in a dead-end job with a MeanBoss who take advantage of him, and yet his home life is so difficult that he feels the desire to go back to work the instant he gets home. Like his eldest son, he's passionate about his hobbies but is terrible at them.
* NightmareFuel:
** Phoebe and Eileen tricking Jason and Marcus into walking into a large patch of ''shoulder-high'' poison ivy, on the pretense of stargazing. They immediately shoot up a tree when realizing, and hearing the girls giggle a distance away. While Jason admits it was ActuallyPrettyFunny in private to Marcus, they tell the girls it took all night for them to clean off the leaves and prevent rashes. Marcus also said when they got back to the cabin, he found a leaf had slipped into his shorts. ''Eugh''.
** The strip where Peter sees Jason fall off the roof, after making him climb it to get a football. Their mother had specifically forbidden them from climbing on the roof because it's dangerous. All Peter can do is tell a semiconscious Jason to not move, as he runs to get help, with a MyGodWhatHaveIDone look (fortunately, Jason just has a mild concussion and needs to stay the night for observation, but he's angry at Peter and keeps reminding him it's his fault he's in a medical ward). When Peter offers to spend the night with Jason in the hospital as a punishment to keep him company, Andy shoots him a DeathGlare for a good reason. She says that his proposed penance is only ''part'' of his punishment since Peter could have gotten Jason killed.
** The story arc from October 1996 where Roger attempts to light the furnace. Andy is concerned because it's ''[[BumblingDad Roger]]'' attempting to light it, and suggests they call the heating guy. Roger ends shutting off the safety device, opening the gas valve and burning himself. Roger does come out fine (albeit without eyebrows), but it's still a terrifying thought, and at the end, the heating guy mentions that it could've been ugly.
** One arc saw Jason dream about getting chased and assaulted by an affectionate [[Franchise/TombRaider Lara Croft]]. While it's PlayedForLaughs for the most part thanks to Jason's GirlsHaveCooties mentality (and the arc ends with the reveal that Peter has been ''wanting'' that dream), it's still a story about an adult woman essentially [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything forcing herself]] onto an unwilling boy (an ''underage'' one at that), and it's ''very'' unlikely that it would have been published if [[DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale the genders had been reversed.]]
** Paige discovering exponential curves in [[https://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/2020/10/11 the 10/11/2020 comic]] is accompanied by an uncharacteristically grisly visual of hellfire exploding out of her math book and Paige's face looking like it's starting to melt off. "Abandon all hope ye who enter here!" indeed.
* SeasonalRot: How some feel about the strip's transition to the Sunday-only format, since, not only does the strip come out much less often, but there are no longer any story arcs. Others, however, believe it had reached this point long beforehand.
* ShipsThatPassInTheNight: Some fans ship [[ToyShip Marcus and Phoebe]] due to their interactions in the Camp Bohrmore arc.
%%* ToyShip: Jason and Eileen.
* UglyCute: Quincy may be a bug-eyed iguana, but he's still pretty adorable.
* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: The strip gets most of its humor from jokes about technology and pop culture, so it can get pretty easy to date some strips.
** A 1990 StoryArc featured the family getting a compact Platform/AppleMacintosh, which looks to be based on the Macintosh Classic.
** A January 1993 strip had Jason dreaming that he found a Macintosh Quadra 950 with 64 megabytes of RAM and a 230-megabyte hard drive as a Christmas gift he forgot to open. Even just a decade later, RAM and storage capacity both were starting to be measured in the gigabytes, to say nothing of what we have another decade or two beyond, like solid-state drives and storage starting to be measured in terabytes.
** One strip from late in the '90s had Jason dress up like an iMac for Halloween; when Peter asks why that would be scary, [[FauxHorrific he's terrified]] when Jason explains "I have no floppy drive!" Floppy drives are almost extinct in modern computers nowadays, floppy disks themselves having long since been supplanted by [=CDs=], [=DVDs=], thumb drives, cloud storage, and even just downloading.
** Several strips around 1999 have Jason showing enthusiasm for ''Film/ThePhantomMenace''(including being dismayed that he died before seeing it in the future part of the YetAnotherChristmasCarol parody), which would [[HypeBacklash become unthinkable]] except for an ironic value after the film came out.
** In an interesting contrast, [[http://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/2010/10/31 this 2010 strip]] has Jason dressing up as Creator/GeorgeLucas for Halloween, failing to convince Paige or Peter that it's horrifying because Lucas plans to [[UpdatedRerelease rerelease]] all the ''Franchise/StarWars'' films in [[UsefulNotes/ThreeDMovie 3D]]. The project would be shelved with only ''The Phantom Menace'' being converted to 3D two years later after Lucas sold the property to Creator/{{Disney}}, who decided to focus on [[Film/TheForceAwakens making new movies]] instead of updating the existing ones.
** A [[https://foxtrot.com/2010/03/21/sorry-flash/ March 2010 strip]] jokes about Apple excluding UsefulNotes/AdobeFlash from their devices by having Creator/SteveJobs give the same pitch about the iPad being "the future of comics" to ComicBook/{{Superman}}, ComicBook/SpiderMan, and ComicBook/TheIncredibleHulk, only to then tell ComicBook/TheFlash he's out of luck. Backlash against Flash would quickly reach a head five years later, with Mozilla Firefox moving to actively block the plugin owing to Adobe's typical slow response time to exploits. At the end of 2020 Flash was discontinued entirely.
** At the start of another camping arc, Peter freaks out over how desolate the campsite is, saying "This is America! There has to at least be a Blockbuster here!" This was close to when Blockbuster Video was at its peak, having expanded to nearly 10,000 locations worldwide. As of 2022, only ''one'' Blockbuster is still in business.
** In the strip from [[https://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/2004/02/16 February 16, 2004]], Peter rents ''NFL 2004'' and has to tell his mother that he'll skip the halftime shows, clearly referencing Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction at that year's Super Bowl. The same incident was referenced in the strip from [[https://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/2005/02/06 February 6, 2005]], where Peter and Jason see Pat Boone performing for the halftime show and Peter comments how "after last year's halftime show, they aren't taking any chances."
** One story arc from October 1999 dealt with Jason having to be Eileen's partner for the field trip so Jason could have her holographic [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Charizard]] card. While the ''Pokémon'' franchise has survived to the present day, the multiple jokes made, such as [[https://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/1999/10/12 Andy telling Roger that Jason has been buying packs like crazy, to the point of borrowing his next 37 allowances to get the aforementioned card]], clearly root it to the height of the ''Pokémon'' craze in the late 1990s.
** It's easy to tell which strips are from TheEighties, as Peter listens to Music/BruceSpringsteen, and only Bruce Springsteen, the San Francisco 49ers are the most dominant football team in the NFL, with Roger and Peter frequently namedropping players on their roster (e.g. Joe Montana and Jerry Rice), Paige dresses like Diane Chambers did in the very first episode of ''Series/{{Cheers}}'', Paige and Nicole consider Creator/NeilPatrickHarris a teenage heartthrob back when he was known as [[Series/DoogieHowserMD Doogie Howser]], Peter training to be a contestant on ''Series/AmericanGladiators'', Jason is constantly playing the [[Platform/NintendoEntertainmentSystem NES]], and typewriters were still in wide use.
** It's a RunningGag that Andy becomes a GranolaGirl who serves vegetarian meals to her family, much to their consternation because her meat dishes are ''much'' better. With vegetarian meals having entered the mainstream, complete with blogs and entire magazines, Andy would have had more opportunities to become a better cook.
** One strip from 1998 had Peter and Paige arguing about whether the "Swing Craze" is passe or still has legs, with Roger showing how out-of-touch he is by thinking it ended for good in the '40s. Younger modern viewers may not even remember the Swing music revival that took place from the late '80s to the late '90s, and think Roger is very much in the right.
%%* UnintentionallySympathetic: In the mother issues arc for Christmas, Andy is meant to be the jerk with how she's bitter about her mother visiting. You can't blame her, though, since as she puts it Roger called her mother perfect but never called her that, and that no one appreciates her for being the mom. A mother isn't allowed to be the good guy consistently, and Andy mentions that ''since she was in seventh grade'', her friends have always taken her side over her mother's. That would give anyone a complex.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: The characters all take turns being this, but particularly Andy, as she is often hypocritical (for instance, becoming addicted to doing the same things she scolds her children for doing), tends to get the last word in situations when [[DesignatedHero she's being just as unreasonable]] as everyone else, and has even been borderline abusive towards Roger on several occasions.
** For a more specific Andy example, there's the Christmas storyline in which her mother visits. Andy spends much of the visit quite upset about her mother's presence, partly because of long-standing bitterness, and partly because her mother actually endears herself to the rest of the family by being significantly nicer and more supportive of their interests than Andy is. The strip essentially treats this as something Andy's mother should feel guilty about, and has her give Andy the credit for giving the kids the presents they really wanted (presents Andy would never have dreamed of giving), thereby making Andy's mother the only one who makes any real effort at reconciling beyond a simple apology.
** Eileen Jacobson has her moments as well. In one storyline, she sends mushy Valentine's Day cards to all of the boys in her class except Jason just to make him jealous, and then tricks him into admitting that he likes her. During the following weeks, he deliberately avoids being seen with her [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend so nobody thinks they're an item]] - which, understandably, hurts her feelings. What's ''less'' understandable is that [[EntitledToHaveYou she expects him to repeat his confession to the whole school and start dating her]]. She gets mad when he can't go through with it, and the strip frames it like ''Jason'' is the one in the wrong for not doing as she says. Granted, she eventually concedes that it wasn't right of her to try to force him into a relationship, but that's only after he spends several strips groveling and begging for forgiveness. Similarly, the aforementioned Poison Ivy prank that she and Phoebe played on Jason and Marcus - to many people, this is not funny since poison ivy rashes can actually be ''quite'' bad in real life.
* ValuesDissonance:
** In one early strip, Andy asks Roger if she needs to lose weight; he responds "maybe two pounds", which causes Andy to burst into tears and call his response "brutal". A joke like that was probably seen as sexist even at the time, and would likely not even get printed in the modern day.
** Up until the mid-90s, Peter and especially Paige would regularly [[BigBrotherBully beat up Jason]] after being on the receiving end of his pranks. With school bullying a huge problem these days, such strips would have a hard time getting published. They got gradually phased out into the early 00s.
** Several strips, particularly in the first decade of the strip's run, have Andy either threaten violence or become violent towards Roger when she is angry at him (e.g. choking him when he gets Jason an oversized squirt gun for Christmas). Due to increased awareness of and sensitivity towards domestic abuse, gags like this became very rare after 2000.
** Jason has a nightmare where he turns into a girl and freaks out as Paige insists on hanging out with "her" and Marcus brings flowers as a romantic gesture. It's meant to be an AffectionateParody of ''The Metamorphosis'' because Jason wanted to turn into a bug. The arc these days seems insensitive in the light of LGBTQ+ issues coming to light, especially for transgender people.
** It's PlayedForLaughs that Morton has an unrequited crush on Paige, who keeps turning him down because he's a "geek" but also being flattered that at least one guy has a crush on her. Morton would be less sympathetic these days because he only takes the hint once that Paige isn't interested in him, coming off as somewhat entitled.
** Paige gets detention in an early strip for forging a note, though nothing is mentioned of her punishment for calling her teacher a "power-hungry neo-Nazi Fascist tub of lard" (though it's suggested that she wasn't punished for that because [[InsultBackfire the teacher took it as a compliment]]). In the present day, she could easily have gotten suspended for making such a remark.
** One early arc has Jason getting in trouble for drawing a Slug-Man comic on his desk at school with permanent marker (his justification being that Quincy kept chewing his comics when drawn on paper). For this, he merely gets reprimanded by the principal and ordered to stay after school hours to clean it off. Nowadays, he would be punished much more severely, both for defacing school property ''and'' [[WhatDoYouMeanItsNotHeinous drawing a superhero comic in which weapons are involved]].
** In early strips, Roger's boss Pembrook is shown to have a [[MistakenForRacist miniature noose]] on his desk (it's indicated to be a "Golden Gallows" award, presumably for being a MeanBoss); these days, having something like that on his desk would likely prompt an FBI visit.
** One series of strips in TheEighties has Jason trying to buy Valentine's cards but the only brands available are ''{{ComicStrip/Garfield}}'', ''{{ComicStrip/Peanuts}}'', and ''[[WesternAnimation/MuppetBabies1984 Muppet Babies]]''. He later calls them "queer" to Peter, an off-color and archaic term for the LGBTQ+ community around that time that would probably see the strip in hot water if used now (it's similar to calling something "gay" in the present day).[[note]]The term "queer" has since been reclaimed by the community, but it should absolutely not be used by straight people to refer to all LGBTQ+ people in general nowadays like it was back then.[[/note]]
** In the first arc to feature Morton Goldthwait, Paige thinks about an excuse to avoid going to a dance with him. One possibility is telling him that she's gay, a lie that would have heavily invoked GayPanic in the late 1980s.
* ValuesResonance: One arc centered around Jason mocking Eileen for dressing up for the new ''Film/HarryPotter'' film, constantly dismissing it and unfavorably comparing it to ''Lord of the Rings''. Eventually, Eileen hits him with a KirkSummation: ''Harry Potter'' and ''Lord of the Rings'' can coexist, because they are both fantasy stories that people enjoy. It's not the subject or age group that matters, but rather what you get out of it; if you have two different pies, you'll enjoy having more pie rather than complain about the flavors. [[spoiler:Eileen also gets the last laugh when she finds out from Andy that Jason has cosplayed as Harry and gone to see the movie "four times since yesterday"]]. With many a FandomRivalry (and even [[BrokenBase rivalries within the same fandoms]]) getting more and more heated thanks to the internet, the arc is just as relevant today as it was then.
