** The nose/cockpit section of the Firefox bears a striking resemblance to the F-117 Nighthawk, which entered service the same year this movie came out.
** The original novel describes the titular aircraft as being similar in appearance to the [=MiG=]-25, which the ''real'' [=MiG=]-31, introduced around the same time as the film's release, did indeed end up resembling.
* RetroactiveRecognition: A number of well-known actors were in the film.
** Film/DirtyHarry vs. [[Franchise/StarWars Admiral Piett]]!
** Dr. Semelovsky was Thoth in ''Film/RaidersOfTheLostArk''.
** Yuri Andropov also played Dietrich, also from ''Film/RaidersOfTheLostArk''.
** Pavel Upenskoy played Dim in ''Film/AClockworkOrange''.
