* AcceptableTarget: Used as this in comments of several videos, especially in the fandoms of other Website/YouTube channels like Creator/{{Nigahiga}} and WebVideo/{{Smosh}}. Other creators, such as WebVideo/{{Jacksfilms}}, target him more directly.
* CoveredUp: At one point, the Your Favorite Martian cover of [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57h_TP84g78 "Just a Friend"]] had over twice the views of the [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aofoBrFNdg original]]. To be fair, the original's from long before the times of YouTube. Ray may have actually increased awareness of the song with his cover.
* CrossoverShip: Benatar and [[TotalDramaIsland Zoey]]
* CrossesTheLineTwice:
** The more recent songs from Your Favorite Martian are falling under this. Topic matter includes violently beating kids for anything slightly annoying, opening a new store dedicated to selling sexy ass cheeks, getting drunk so ugly girls will look hot, and dumping an otherwise-okay girl because of her smell (it's not even her). Even compared to earlier edgy songs, there are more harsh lyrics that seem to exist only to be more vulgar.
** Toned down with "Friend Zone" which is probably the most heartfelt once they've done in a while and has relatively little vulgarity.
* CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming: [[http://youtu.be/LpcNDIFWt2o The Unofficial Smithers Love Song]] can also be something of TearJerker at the end.
* EarWorm:
** "Doin' Your Mom", "Stalkin' Your Mom", hell, many, if not most, of the songs from Your Favorite Martian, for that matter.
** Also, Eduard "Mr. Trololo" Khil.
* EnsembleDarkHorse:
** Kassem G, who filled in for Ray as presenter in [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cn_8D7C2Vs4&feature=relmfu two]] [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_VxSOBpQf0 videos]], has a couple of fans.
** He even got to be the host, again, in a [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EJRBdUdTZ8 future episode]] because people requested it.
** Creator/GabrielIglesias could also count, being almost as popular as KassemG, if not more popular.
* DeaderThanDisco: Over a long while, Equals Three suffered immense backlash as the show went on and the sheer concept of viral videos began to fall less and less, especially when Ray was forced to shut down Your Favorite Martian. However once Ray stepped down, the show suffered from this. It only stayed afloat when Robby was on board and fell ''again'' when the show changed hosts. This is a key factor (along with the decline of viral videos that lead to people, ''especially'' WebVideo/{{Jacksfilms}} coming in.
* FunnyAneurysmMoment: Bill Cosby's appearance in "Orphan Tears" can be this in light of the rape allegations case going on.
* FandomRivalry: Quite inevitably with Creator/{{Nigahiga}}, considering that Ray had surpassed him as the number-one most subscribed channel. Similarly, fans of WebVideo/{{Jacksfilms}} and Ray don't seem to get along due to the former bashing the latter.
* GeniusBonus: On a video review about a cat that walked on two paws, he referenced Creator/GeorgeOrwell (and an on-screen annotation pointed out "TO THE AUDIENCE: He wrote AnimalFarm".) Speaking of, when Ray reviewed a video of a dog watching WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy in the ''BAD KIDS'' episode, he said "Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy", which is a plot point in the film.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** In the episode "Man-Bitch", he jokingly asks if the fat guy that fell through the ceiling was Creator/{{Kevin Smith}}. Kevin Smith would later appear in person on episodes of Equals Three.
** At one point in the episode "Psycho Asian Girlfriend", Ray starts a sentence with, "If I had an Asian girlfriend...". Now he ''does'' have an Asian girlfriend.
* HoYay: The music video for ''Somebody that I Used to Know'' has Puff singing Kimbra's part from the original. If you know the context of the song, it could possibly appear that he's singing it to ''Benatar''.
* InternetBackdraft: A small one after being [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzjFd33lFFs caught red handed]] lifting parts word for word from a Grade A Under A video.
* JumpingTheShark: Judging from the reception, the future decrease of views in later videos, the change towards mainstream music and such. It's safe to assume that Dookie Fresh started this for ''Your Favorite Martian''.
* MemeticMutation: Many of the viral videos Ray's reviewed are memes in themselves.
** [[CrossesTheLineTwice Squirrel]] [[TheVirus AIDS]].
** Fake and gay.
** [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext Two camels in a tiny car]].
** Hide yo' kids, hide yo' wife, hide yo' husband.
** [[AscendedMeme YOU AIN'T GOT NO PANCAKE MIX!]]
** "[[BilingualBonus Co za asy!]]" comments started showing up in many Youtube videos, less than 2 days after Ray remarked on it.
* TheScrappy: Catt Lauer's "reports" weren't particularly well received, so Ray had him executed live in his (Ray's) birthday episode. [[spoiler:Too bad CatsHaveNineLives.]]
* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped:
** From [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOIYL7TcwA4 BAD KIDS]] - "''Don't f*** your kids up. They don't deserve that. Anyway, guys, sorry I had, like, a Bill Cosby moment there. Some things just NEED to be said.''"
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_Q2cXLhHhU SANTA HATES POOR KIDS]], while crossing the line by depicting Santa as a pedophile, drives a fair point about how poor people cannot enjoy the concept of SantaClaus.
* SnarkBait: He is ''EASILY'' one of YouTube's most hated figures.
* TearJerker:
** "Friend Zone". Oh God, "Friend Zone".
** "Alien", which depicts an alien being bullied to the brink. [[spoiler:Thankfully, [[ThrowTheDogABone he meets a girl alien at the end]].]]
** Ray's departure from the show was pretty shocking and depressing, especially when you've watched him for so long.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks:
** While the animation style got a bit of a redo, there were several comments on the Whip Yo Kids video complaining about [[NostalgiaFilter how they liked the old animation better]].
** Naturally, someone will be disappointed when Ray isn't the one hosting a new episode. However, The episode with Garfunkel and Oates was just terrible, with a 76 percent dislike rate.
*** The first episode hosted by Andy Milonakis was much less warmly received.
*** Averted ''gloriously'' with Robby Motz being the show's new host. People warmed up very well to Robby and see him as a younger version of Ray, as well as having a huge blend of sarcasm and up beat humor.
*** And played ''gloriously'' straight with Robby's replacement, Kaja Martin. The first video that didn't have an overwhelming dislike ratio since her debut as a new host was... the video where Ray informed everyone she was stepping down. Keep in mind, ''Robby'' stayed longer than Kaja. Holy crap.
** The aforementioned JumpingTheShark moments.
** The format change to five one-review videos a week from two three-review videos a week.
