* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: of all people is subtly implied to be a Yandere during the first chapter. For context, the game hints that she has a crush on Capu, who looks like he's about to admit he likes her as well... only to ask if she can deliver a letter to Shy for him. The narrator tells us that had always been envious of Shy for being the prettiest girl in the convent. The fridge horror kicks in when [[spoiler: Lilli accidentally kills them both to retrieve the firecrackers. While not intentional, it can be read that she unconsciously murdered them both out of jealousy.]] Of course, that interpretation could either be true or it could probably be another one of the narrator's interpretation on how Lilli was actually thinking,
** Is Capu really the NiceGuy he's supposed to be seen as? The whole "LoveTriangle" scenario could seen as Capu using Lilli to get closer to Shy, by planting false hopes into her. There's also the fact that he doesn't do anything when Shawny takes the orders away from Lilli.
** After Lilli's screams from learning she unintentionally killed the students and finished throwing up in the bathroom, did Lilli quickly get over it or is she still hiding the hidden sadness inside because she knows there's no going back?
* AngstWhatAngst: After Lilli learns the truth on what she had done to her students, she finishes vomiting and departs the bathroom without saying a word. And yet when you control her again, she looks no worse for wear.
* ContestedSequel: To some, it's an EvenBetterSequel or in this case "Even Better Spin-Off". While The Breakout is equally beloved by fans, one could make the argument that Harvey's New Eyes improved on a lot the first game's aspects, and both Lilli and Gerret are treated just as importantly by fans as the title characters. To others, on the other hand, the first game's big selling point was that you could use any command or item on literally anything and get a unique response, and this game abandons that idea. And then, there are a few who enjoyed both who just like the games themselves.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Like the first game, Droggeljug. Even Petra, Adrian, and Peter are this as well.
** Some of the fans also love the Wendigo Harvey (out of the demons (though some get some love from a few in the fandom)) from within the game.
* EsotericHappyEnding: [[spoiler: Contradict is seen by many fans as the definitive GoldenEnding, but with how ambiguous it is, there's still plenty of FridgeHorror to be found upon closer inspection. Lilli defies both Dr. Marcel and her (possibly) imaginary friends Gerret and Edna and leaves the asylum, but where exactly can she go from here? All her classmates are dead, the convent and her legal guardian are still under the control of Dr. Marcel and the only two people she thought she could trust might not even be real. Speaking of, we never find out whether or not Dr. Marcel was lying about Edna and Gerret being Imaginary Friends. If he did and they were RealAfterAll, Lilli just left two innocent people behind to get tortured and brainwashed by a PsychoPsychologist.]]
* HarsherInHindsight: This game was released in 2011, and the Rabbit defending the "not going into dangerous places" mental block cites a Rolf Harris concert as one of the places a child could be safer than in a village after dark. In June of 2014, the same Rolf Harris was found guilty of a dozen indecent assault charges committed between 1968 and 1986, all involving girls with ages spanning between seven years old and seventeen years old. He was later accused of more child sex offenses, many of which involved trusting, similarly young female fans who approached him alone, and formally cleared of only four of them during 2017.
* HilariousInHindsight: Though this game came out after VisualNovel/DanganronpaTriggerHappyHavoc, the way both games utilize blood with hot pink colours is the same, in order to avoid the dreaded Rated M for MatureRating.
* QuirkyWork: As if the original game wasn't wacky enough, Harvey's New Eyes expands on The Breakout's loony comedy with Lilli's bizzare trance segments and much higher levels of BlackComedy.
* TearJerker: Once you get past the narrator's intentionally saccharine tone and the game's overall dark sense of humor, you realize just how brutally harsh and awful Lilli's life is. She's (presumably) an orphan, living out her childhood effectively as a slave to a woman who berates and belittles her on a daily basis, and is ostracized by her fellow students for their own petty reasons. Then she's hypnotized into becoming more servile by a complete lunatic and has to go through a harrowing amount of trials and tribulations to escape him AND rescue her only friends... God DAMN, somebody give this poor kid a hug.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter:
** Gerret, he is prominently on the box cover (Edna doesn't even get an appearance.) but he only gets focus in the first act, after that he's barely featured in the second, only resurfacing at the end of Act 3. The fact he is the only character to oppose Dr. Marcel in any way doesn't help. Poki laments this fact in the developer's commentary, as he says if he were to make another Edna & Harvey game, Gerret would be featured more.
** Harvey. Despite being the title character and appearing multiple times in the game, we never get to see him outside his BrainwashedAndCrazy, RedEyesTakeWarning state. He gets his old personality back close to the end after Lily sews his old eyes back onto his face, but it only lasts for the final boss and he doesn't get to play a major role in any case.
* ValuesDissonance: Sure a cave can be a dangerous place as well as going out at middle of the night. Yet the rabbit apparently sees nothing wrong with a little girl walking into a BAR at the middle of the night to get drunk. Granted it does shows up when she attempt to drink alcohol but at that point she would've been in huge danger already.
** Something the bartender lampshades immediately after Lilli walks in, mentioning that all kinds of horrible things can happen to a little girl walking into a bar, alone, in the middle of the night.
