* {{Anvilicious}}: The second movie with the road signs.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The opening theme, "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yp1699xqehw Un lugar más allá]]" ("A Place Beyond"), composed by Emilio Alquézar and sung by Eva Martí. Even the harshest detractors of the film typically acknowledge it is an incredibly beautiful song. Appropriately, it was nominated for the Best Original Song at the 2003 Goya Awards, with [[AwardSnub many believing it should have won]], and a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv8Cnp250H8 remix]] was used again for the third movie of the franchise, ''El corazón del roble''.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: A scene in the second movie portraying Kevin's wish to be a knight. Besides being made entirely on flash (as opposed to the traditional animation style in the rest of the movie), it also features gratuitous violence ([[spoiler:such as Kevin being knocked so hard he loses a tooth]]) and a FREAKING WALKING WOOD VIKING! [[spoiler:That, however, is only one out of at least three!]]
* CriticalDissonance: The movie went mostly unnoticed by the Spanish audiences and was a financial failure, but it got rave critical reviews and won the Goya Award to the Best Animated Feature, the highest award it could have aspired to in Spain (and was also nominated for the Best Original Song, albeit losing to Carlos Saura's ''Salomé''). Its success was enough for two sequels to be made in 2006 and 2012 despite the low income, and they almost repeated the feat by being nominated both of them at their respective years's Goya Awards.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: Spanish animated movies often do better abroad than on their own country, and although ''Dragon Hill'' was still critically acclaimed in Spain, it wasn't an exception in audience or box office terms. It made more money in France, Germany and Netherlands, and it also got a nomination in the EU's prestigious Cartoon Movie Tributes.
* {{Sequelitis}}: The first movie has had its critics, but is something of a CultClassic at least as far as the Spanish animation scene is concerned. Nobody[[note]]And we do have IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes to prove it[[/note]] likes the multiple sequels that came after, all of which [[AllCGICartoon CGI]] and having inane plots.
* SoOkayItsAverage: If one can bypass the most bizarre parts of the plot, the movie can be seen as an otherwise very decent film with some nice touches.
