* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: ''Secrets of the Beehive'' is widely considered his best work.
* FriendlyFandoms: Thanks to his collaborations with Music/RobertFripp on ''Gone to Earth'' and ''The First Day'', a sizable overlap exists between Sylvian's fanbase (and by extent Music/{{Japan}} fans) and that of Music/KingCrimson. It also helps that former Japan keyboardist Richard Barbieri is a member of fellow ProgressiveRock band Music/PorcupineTree.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: Whilst he's had considerable success elsewhere, he is a huge star in UsefulNotes/{{Japan}}. It started with his band Music/{{Japan}}, who quickly became popular thanks to their name and their dress sense, which was a chief influence on the VisualKei genre. Sylvian strengthened his relationship with Japanese audiences by being good friends with musicians such as Music/RyuichiSakamoto and former Japan guitarist Masami Tsuchiya, and having a Japanese girlfriend during the '80s, Yuka Fujii, who is responsible for many of his photos. Many special releases of his were only released in Japan.
* GrowingTheBeard: David brought some strings and piano in, toned down the androgyny, and started getting all Serious Business about his art.
