* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** Is Jericho Cross genuinely motivated to atone for his actions and regain his soul or is he only driven to revenge against Lazarus, which only drives him further down the edge? Given he is a silent protagonist, he can be anything in between.
** Clay Cartwright: [[GoodIsNotNice Harsh, but fair]] leader doing his job or a [[KnightTemplar brutal zealot]]?
* CompleteMonster: [[VampireMonarch Lazarus Malkoth]] is a vampire lord formerly imprisoned by the Darkwatch before being freed by [[PlayerCharacter Jericho Cross]] in a train heist gone wrong. The founder of Darkwatch, Lazarus later succumbs to vampirism after a demon possess him, turning into a heartless monster planning to scourge the world into a land of undead under his rule. Sadistically amused by Jericho, Lazarus tried to have him embrace his new vampire nature after cursing him, ruthless trying to sate his blood hunger including presenting Cassidy's beheaded body as an offering, while he continues his rampage to turn TheWildWest into hell itself, culminating him into massacring the Darkwatch after Tala betrayed them to him, trying to kill Jericho in a brutal battle.
* DemonicSpiders: Banshees tend to fly away from the players reach and shoot energy screams that block bullets, making gunfire almost ineffective. It gets worse after you tear both their arms and they keep screaming incessantly which makes it hard to kill them and much easier to bring you down in higher difficulties.
* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments: In one trailer, Jericho hucks a stick of dynamite into a crowd of zombies. One of them ''catches'' it and takes a brief, confused look at the camera before the boom.
* GameBreaker: Fourth-tier powers Vindicator and Soul Stealer that you unlock for the good and evil paths respectively. They were designed to wipe out all enemies on screen and are activated by absorbing blood clouds collected by slain enemies. Activating it with a room full of enemies means instant recharge to use it again.
* GoddamnedBats: The Reapers are the most common enemy found in the game and not really that difficult to kill, but they always charge your position from all sides and they always keep coming relentlessly at you. The fact their AI is very limited and they have no other tactic besides AttackAttackAttack, they can make for some very annoying enemies.
* MoralEventHorizon:
** Jericho can potentially cross it [[spoiler: when he decides to take Lazarus' power for himself and replace him as the new vampire lord.]] At any karmic point, you are given a choice to KickTheDog, but that final choice can permanently damn Jericho.
** If Tala didn't cross the line when she ordered the execution of Hangtown residents, she most definitely did after [[spoiler:betraying the Darkwatch and letting Lazarus' forces invade their Citadel]]. Its also implied that she may have killed the people taking refuge inside the Hangtown church, she asks Jericho to keep it secret and it isn't too far fetched to believe she wouldn't given she gave the order to purge the townsfolk, and [[FridgeHorror if that is the case]], the victims include [[WouldHurtAChild the choir boys]] too...
* NightmareFuel
** The final boss takes place inside a pocket dimension that may or may not be Hell itself, but that is not what makes it disturbing: is that there are several women bound inside the chamber and after you reduce the final boss' health to a certain point, [[HumanSacrifice each single one is sacrificed by crushing them with spiked weights]]! And there is nothing you can do about it to prevent it, and to make matters worse, their deaths are necessary for you to recover your health.
** The bad ending. [[spoiler: Jericho kills Cassidy after she attempted to stop him from corrupting the land with Lazarus' curse. As Tala kisses her consort passionately gloating about the darkness they will bring, Jericho grabs Tala by the neck and rips her jugular apart. After killing her, he emerges to unleash an inhuman roar, which is unsettling given Jericho is a HeroicMime, and he rides on to Shadow's horseback to further spread his curse.]]
* ThatOneLevel: The Deadlight Prism level has you pitted against enemies during daytime while Jericho is rendered vulnerable by the sunlight. While you are capable of regaining your strength by staying under the shadows, you are gonna be forced to face enemies like Banshees and Braves while they are not slowed down one bit by sunlight.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Since the sequel projects have been cancelled, we will never get to see the Darkwatch fighting demons throughout the ages, which would have been awesome.
