* MoralEventHorizon:
** Carcy, Sols long distance love interest in the first book, crosses this when he [[spoiler: attempts to force Sol into having sex with him despite the fact the wolf is clearly uncomfortable and doesn't give consent, turning the moment into a near rape experience.]]
** Jean, who was Nikis love interest during his lifetime (shown in an ebook Sol reads and in the dreams), crossed it when [[spoiler: he murdered the fox and attempted to hide his body by dumping it in a river. The aforementioned ebook Sol reads basically sums up his LackOfEmpathy for his action, as Jean also tries to subtly downplay the action by writing Niki in a more terrible light than he really was.]]
* TearJerker: Alexei's sister [[spoiler: was murdered by some guy pretending he was going to help her get to America.]]
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Konstantine is depicted as some of a [[TragicVillain tragic]] AntiVillain, shaped into what he was by his harsh life in late 19th century/early 20th century Siberia[[note]]in Creator/KyellGold's universe, mind you, this refers to the whole of Russia[[/note]]. However, when we're given examples of several of his contemporaries that grew up in similar conditions and still ended up far more admirable people - including a fellow soldier he betrayed - all empathy points the audience has go down the drain and it's not hard to simply see him as a bigoted, conservative-even-for-his-epoch asshole.
