* AwesomeMusic: The theme song, which is often considered the best part of the show. Even people who ''hate'' the show agree that it's good.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTG6lbkEP_k The extended version]], [[KeepCirculatingTheTapes if you're lucky enough to hear it]], gives us two additional verses and a ''bitching'' guitar/harmonica solo.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: The entire "Safety Sammy" video.
* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: Due to being a SadistShow, this is likely on purpose.
* DudeNotFunny: Cat is always the one who suffers the most from his crazy friends/enemies, but especially Dog's dog-like antics. It's even sadder how Dog just watches as his brother is brutally skinned alive several times without doing anything.
* EarWorm: ''Cat-Dog, Cat-Dog! Alone in the world is a little Cat-Dog!''
** "A pretty little piece of paradise / That's a-where I wanna be..."
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP4Yv5_dwx4 "Parents / That's right, parents / Tall, short, wacky, wiggly parents..."]]
** Cat diggety dog! (Cat diggety dog!) Dog diggety cat! (Dog diggety cat!)
** "Bow diddy bow wow, bow diddy meow! Diddy diddy bow wow meow meow meow!"
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Lola.
* FridgeBrilliance: The third line of the theme song nearly 100% references their adoptive parents.
* FridgeHorror: How does [=CatDog=] go to the bathroom?
** Some episodes imply there's an anus in the center of their body. [[{{Squick}} Which is still quite unsettling]], though considerably less so.
** FridgeBrilliance: That's roughly where their respective hindquarters would be if they were a regular cat and dog, so it makes sense.
** Cat has nine lives. Dog only has one. What will happen when Dog dies? Will Cat have to drag his brother's dead body around for the rest of his eight lives?
* FriendlyFandoms: Shockingly, with ''Franchise/LoveLive''.
* HilariousInHindsight: In "Guess Who's Going to Be Dinner!", Cat says of the blue-furred Winslow, "I could make a rodent WesternAnimation/{{Ratatouille}}."
** "I predict that the trees will speak Japanese." Years later, [[VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver Sudowoodo]] was introduced.
* JerkassWoobie: Cat, though sometimes he's just TheWoobie.
* LoveItOrHateIt: Either this show was a good show that never got its due or a crummy show that signaled the beginning of the end for great Nickelodeon programming.
* MoralEventHorizon: Cliff's biggest [[KickTheDog Kick the Cat Dog]] moment has to be in ''The Great Parent Mystery'' when he mocked them for not having parents.
* MemeticMutation: "How does CatDog go to the bathroom?"
* NauseaFuel: It's a GrossoutShow. Expect quite a bit.
* TheScrappy: Winslow and Rancid Rabbit appear to be this, since they almost always ruin [=CatDog=]'s day - in Winslow's case, mostly because he's a complete dick. For Rancid his recurring appearance and mean attitude is seen to be annoying.
** Cliff of the Greasers, as well. Shriek is more of a BaseBreaker, as she has a few good moments with Dog, and Lube averts this, due to having a few episodes in which he is not an antagonist (and a lot of other instances of being too stupid and ineffectual to be malicious otherwise). Cliff, however, is just a JerkAss (though to compensate, he arguably has the most frequent moments as TheChewToy).
** There are quite a few fans who hate Lola, some even comparing her to Scrappy-Doo.
** Eddie the Squirrel. His [[SmallAnnoyingCreature grating personality]] and unbelievable [[SmugSnake arrogance]] makes him very hard to like. Definitely intentional, since the Greasers sometimes don't like him.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: ''The Great Parent Mystery''. It had a lot of build up to it, and generated some interest into the identity of [=CatDog's=] parents. [[spoiler: Only it turns out that the [[SarcasmMode big]] [[TheUnreveal reveal]] was that we get to see [=CatDog's=] ''adoptive'' parents.]] One could imagine a few people being annoyed by this.
* ValuesDissonance: One of Winslow's lines directed toward Cat, which goes "How 'bout I sock you right in the puss[[note]]As in 1940s slang for "face"[[/note]], ''Puss!''[[note]]As in general slang for cat[[/note]]". They could get away with it in the 90s, but given the term's change in useage over the years, it's a miracle that this line was able to stay in on reairings.
