* AwardSnub: In a way. Though the film was nominated for several UsefulNotes/{{Academy Award}}s, including Best Picture of the Year, it ended up winning none, largely due to being overshadowed by ''Film/TheLastEmperor'' and ''Film/{{Moonstruck}}''. Creator/AlbertBrooks' supporting performance and Creator/JamesLBrooks' screenplay were probably the closest the film came to winning anything.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Music/BillConti's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-dY33WbnJw&feature=related score]].
* HarsherInHindsight: Aaron is supposed to be the sensitive, intelligent "real reporter," while Tom is supposed to be the air-headed self-absorbed "talking head." But, when Aaron responds to Tom's [[FairForItsDay ahead of its time]] report on date rape with "Can I turn on the news for a second? ...Oh, wait a minute. Sex -- Tears -- This must be the news....I think you really blew the lid off nookie...." WAY harsher. Judging by the reaction of his co-workers, they weren't pleased with his glibness.
** JerkassHasAPoint: However, the scope of the piece wasn't suited to national news, especially by an anchorman, but more suited to something like ''Series/SixtyMinutes''.
* HilariousInHindsight: Aaron deciding to go to the "number two station in Portland" would be a brilliant move these days, as local television news has [[http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/01/05/fewer-americans-rely-on-tv-news-what-type-they-watch-varies-by-who-they-are/ exceeded viewership]] of national.
* RetroactiveRecognition:
** Marc Shaiman, noted composer, gets a bit part (during the "Big Finish!" scene), just before he became a well-known musician.
** Christian Clemenson has a very minor role as Bobby, a member of the news station. He would go on to become a main character on ''Series/BostonLegal'' (winning an UsefulNotes/EmmyAward in the process).
** Another reporter is played by William B. Davis, later known as the [[Series/TheXFiles Cigarette Smoking Man]].
* SignatureScene:
** Blair's "obstacle course" run is the most run clip from the film.
** "It's, like, indescribable. You knew just when to feed me the next line the second before I needed it. There was a rhythm we got into. It was like great sex."
