* AdaptationDisplacement: Most people who know about Brainiac are more familiar with his evil AI incarnation from [[WesternAnimation/SupermanTheAnimatedSeries the cartoon]] than they are with the earlier comic book incarnations. This is most likely the reason it has become a frequent RetCanon.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMoments:
** In his first appearance -''Comicbook/ActionComics'' #242-, Superman was unable to beat Brainiac. The Man of Steel threw chunks of planetoid at the twelfth-level intellectual until he ran out of planetoid. The whole time, Brainiac just stood still, grinning and letting his deflector shields take the blows.
** His androids and machines nearly manage to destroy both Superman and Supergirl during the ''Brainiac'' story arc.
* CompleteMonster:
** Numerous incarnations at Monster/{{Superman}}, Monster/DCComics, and Monster/{{Batman}}.
** His Franchise/{{DCAU}} incarnation, ''WesternAnimation/SupermanUnbound'' incarnation, and ''WesternAnimation/LegionOfSuperHeroes'' incarnation, at Monster/DCAnimation.
** His ''Series/{{Smallville}}'' incarnation at Monster/LiveActionTVMToZ.
** His ''VideoGame/Injustice2'' and ''VideoGame/JusticeLeagueHeroes'' incarnations at Monster/VideoGamesAToK.
** The Brainiac 8 (Indigo) incarnation from ''Series/{{Supergirl 2015}}'', at Monster/{{Arrowverse}}.
* CantUnhearIt: Creator/CoreyBurton's voice for Brainiac in the Franchise/{{DCAU}} is what most fans tend to hear in their heads when reading his lines.
* EvilIsCool: Naturally. Brainiac has consistently been a threat to Superman across the decades no matter how strong the Man of Steel becomes.
* MainstreamObscurity: Brainiac was so ubiquitous and popular in the Silver Age that his name became slang for intellectual and introduced a word in the cultural lexicon, but his cross-media appearances has prevented him from being as famous as other villains. He has yet to appear in a single Live-Action film version of Superman (which has seen three Lex Luthors and two General Zods) and his most well known appearance, the Franchise/{{DCAU}} take, is different enough from his comics that they make newcomers confused about the two versions.
