* SugarWiki/AwesomeMoments: In the video game ''Blood Bowl II'' by Cyanide Studio, the battle against the Gouged Eye is [[DifficultySpike noticeably difficult]] for the first half, but then the Raiders get backup in the form of a particularly brutal Star Player: [[RetiredBadass BOB BIFFORD]]. The ogre has towering stats, including an unprecedented six ST that gives him an automatic three dice against any greenskin lineman he catches without backup and two dice against the larger players he's up against, and the "Pile On" skill which gives him a free, penalty-less Foul against anything he knocks down (though he goes down too).
** Against the Chaos All-Stars later, you receive backup in the shape of Morg'n'Thorg. Morg'n'Thorg is the most famous, most fearsome, and most ''expensive'' Star Player for hire in the whole of Blood Bowl — Entire ''teams'' can be fielded for less than he'll play a game for. Judging by the pre-match cutscene and his tripping over the words 'anonymous donor,' it's strongly implied that Jim Johnson, Bob's co-announcer, hired him on your team's behalf.
* CharacterTiers: Unlike many games, ''Blood Bowl'' has several teams that are blatantly worse than other teams, and some that requires advanced knowledge of the game to use properly. The ''Blood Bowl'' fandom usually divide teams into one of three tiers: Tier 1 are teams that are usable 'out of the box' with only minimal knowledge of the game (most of the teams), Tier 2 are teams that can be as good as Tier 1 with the right coaching and league development, but will suffer early on (teams like Vampires, Khemri, Underworld, Chaos Pact, Slann, and Khorne), and Tier 3 are the joke teams you play for a laugh because they're dreadful no matter how you slice it (Halflings, Goblins, and Ogres). There is some fluidity between tiers, but they're usually fairly iron-clad. This was given recognition when the game was revived, with official tournaments giving bonuses for lower tier teams, and formally canonized in the 2020 edition.
* GoodBadBugs: Some editions of the PC game will give you your opponents Inducement money if they have a higher team value and you say yes to spending money, but don't actually put any in. Those extra Wizards and Bribes gotten this way can really help a team just starting out.
** Also, on occasions, the game will bug out and let you have 12 players on the pitch, even though the maximum is supposed to be 11.
* PortingDisaster: The Platform/{{Xbox 360}} version removed multiplayer leagues, essentially gutting one of the main draws of the game.
* {{Sequelitis}}: Blood Bowl 2 has greatly improved graphics over the first game, but the lack of teams and removal of features has earned this game a lot of wrath from fans before the "legendary edition" fixed this.
