* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: During the cleaning montage in "The Greatest Story Never Told", Ian finds a box with Odbald in the basement, which later gets sucked up by a vacuum cleaner. How he got there is never explained, as this is his only appearance in the episode.
* CultClassic: While never an extremely popular series outside of Canada, ''Being Ian'' has developed a loyal following, holding nostalgic value for many who grew up watching Creator/{{YTV}} in the 2000s and is considered to be one of the channel’s all-time classics. It also has a following from those who watched it when it aired on Creator/{{Qubo}}. The fact that it gets frequently brought up by Canadian [=YouTubers=] like WebVideo/NitroRad and [=CartoonGamer8000=] when they talk about their favorite natively-produced childhood cartoons (both of whom also cite it as a major influence on their interest in becoming online content creators) is a testimony to its legacy.
* FriendlyFandoms: As one of the quintessential Canadian cartoons of early-mid 2000s Creator/{{YTV}}, its fanbase often overlaps with those of fellow overtly Canadian CultClassic shows ''WesternAnimation/JacobTwoTwo'' and ''WesternAnimation/YvonOfTheYukon'' (the former of which also aired alongside it on Creator/{{Qubo}} and the latter of which was also made by Creator/IanJamesCorlett and Creator/StudioBProductions).
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: At the end of the "[[SeriesFauxnale Hurry for Hollywood]]" two parter, Ian participates in the filmmaker contest and [[spoiler:[[EarnYourHappyEnding he actually wins with his entry with him even receiving standing ovation from the audience]]]]. It feels rather rewarding for all the rough times he went throughout the whole series.
* HilariousInHindsight: One episode involves Ian worshipping a pre-school show about colorful talking ponies to the point where he watches a marathon in secret. [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Guess which series gained a huge fandom a few years later?]] Bonus points when you realize Studio B Productions worked on both series.[[note]]Not to mention many actors from this series, such as Creator/RichardIanCox and Ian James Corlett, would later work on ''Friendship Is Magic''.[[/note]]
* UnintentionalPeriodPiece:
** Many details clearly root this series to the mid-2000s. The characters use technology that has since been dated such as flip phones, blocky computers, and CRT [=TVs=]. Many of the episodes also reference or parody various movies and [=TV=] series of the era.
** "Hockey Night in Burnaby" features Trevor Linden as a member of the Vancouver Canucks, before his retirement as a hockey player in 2008. The episode also features General Motors Place before it changed its name to Rogers Arena in 2010.
* ViewerNameConfusion:
** It's pretty common to see people misspell the surname of Ian's family as "Kelly" without the extra e. Even some official sources got this wrong.
** Some people misspell Korey's name as "Corey".
** People have misspelled Sandi's name as "Sandy".
* TheWoobie:
** Poor Ian. He almost never receives any respect from others (not even from his friends or his own family), often gets bullied by his brothers and the people that do harm him barely get punished for mistreating him.
