* BigDamnHeroes: Everyone seemed to get a shot at being one in this series. It could be argued that the biggest difference in tone between the original and the reimagined series is just how much Starbuck, Apollo, Adama and Tigh are BigDamnHeroes in the original, but not so much in the reimagined series.
* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: Stu Phillips' theme for the series, complete with prelude in the pilot episode.
* FridgeHorror: [[spoiler: if the Ovions are eating any humans that come to Carrilon, does that mean that the food they're serving the Colonials is people?]]
** Not to mention the eventual fate of the minor colonies that the fleet encountered on their way to Earth. Consider what happened to them when the Cylons retraced the fleets path.
* IdiotPlot: You would think leaving at least a token defense fleet at your home system would be common military sense.
* NightmareFuel: there is a reason why [[spoiler: no one has heard of the planet IAmAHumanitarian Carrilon]]. The screaming doesn't help.
* PopularityPolynomial: For 25 years or so after it first aired, it was regarded as being a pretty solid show considering the time period when it was produced. Then during the [=2000s=] following the launch of the reimagined series, people tended to dismiss it as being just silly, campy fluff that wasted the potential of its concept. In the years since the finale of the reimagined series however, people have started to warm up to the original again, for at least being fun to watch and not having a storyline which collapsed in on itself (it helps that it's much easier to ignore Galactica 1980 than it is to ignore the latter few reimagined seasons).
* SciFiGhetto
* TheScrappy: Boxey is often considered to be this.
* Wangst: Some think Sheba's got way to much angst for one character. Of course she's not nearly as bad as the characters form the reboot series.
* WTHCostumingDepartment: Apparently we will all wear togas and discowear in space.
* WhatTheHellHero: Sure Siress Belloby, use the one item in your possesion that could help a lot of starving children (not to mention the last surviving remnants of your own race) as a barganing chip in your bid to...get into Adama's pants... Really?

* CreatorsPet: the Council of Twelve has never disagreed with Dr. Zee? Really? No, really?
* FanonDiscontinuity: With the exception of the episode "The Return of Starbuck", this series is NOT what fans wanted.
* IdiotPlot: "Spaceball". Enough said.
* ReplacementScrappy: Granted, Dr. Zee wasn't that popular to begin with, but fans generally tend to agree that Robbie Rist's emotionless CreepyChild incarnation of the character was much better (or at least more interesting) than James Patrick Stuart's version, who was a typically precocious boy genius.
* TastesLikeDiabetes: Almost every episode.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot spoiler: The Cylons return after 30 years and attack the fleet's school ship. You'd think that this would set up an episode where the Galactica mobilizes the Earth to fight their old enemies, but instead we're treated to a GreenAesop and the antics of a bunch of kids. Hoo boy.
* VisualEffectsOfAwesome: Considering the show's budget limitations, the producers pulled a spectacular and cheap sequence using scenes from Film/Earthquake. Superimpose Cylon Raiders on that footage and you have a believably horrific prediction of what Earth could suffer if they learn about the planet.
* WTHCostumingDepartment: The Colonials' idea of kids clothing? Medieval peasant-wear.
