* DemonicSpiders: Most of the pests (except for spiders, ironically) count, as they tend to be small, fast, easy to miss, and require a variety of methods to take care of.
** Ants are the most common pest, but they can still be really annoying due to how small they are. Ice ants are even worse since they move faster, leave behind frost, and drop your heart rate pretty quickly.
** Crickets hop all over the place and leave behind cuts that you have to cauterize and gel.
** Scorpions are small and so tough that you have to use your ''chainsaw'' to kill them, and once you kill them you have to vacuum up the poison/pus they leave behind.
** Bats are extremely fast and fly all over the place, making accuracy difficult. Not only that, but they also leave behind cuts and scratches.
** Mice are very fast, have lots of health, require the chainsaw to kill, and crawl everywhere (including ''off-screen''), making them an absolute pain to kill.
* EvenBetterSequel:
** The first game and ''Christmas Edition'' were very well-received, but ''Amateur Surgeon 2'' removed every single ScrappyMechanic and streamlined the controls to make for an even better experience. It also gave you the ability to upgrade tools.
** ''Tag Team Trauma'' and ''Regenerations'' go further with unique and creative patients, partners, and (for the latter game) in-game events... though they do also introduce microtransactions to the series.
* GeniusBonus: At one point in the first game, Alan says that he'll have women flocking to him for "acute angina". While most people would assume that the joke is that it sounds like "[[HehHehYouSaidX vagina]]", that's actually a real medical term for a lack of blood flow in a person's heart that causes chest pain, so Alan is saying that he will get to touch women's chests.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: Alan's notes are mostly filled with Alan's sarcasm, incredulity at his patients' stupidity, or any number of inappropriate comments, but the patient file for Dr. Bleed's second surgery shows how much respect and appreciation Alan has for his mentor.
-->'''Alan''': [[BrokenAce A legendary surgeon who fell from grace]] [[spoiler:when he [[MyGreatestFailure took the blame for his own student's atrocities]].]] He's been a model of compassion, dignity, and genius ever since I first ran him over in my van while he was wandering around as a filthy tramp. I started off as a pizza boy - [[MentorArchetype Dr. Bleed has given me the opportunity to be something much, much greater.]] I'll do whatever it takes to save him!
* ScrappyMechanic: While vacuuming up spilled blood was always a thing in the series since the second game, it was mostly an optional task that allowed you to see the area better. The fourth game, however, makes it ''obligatory'' to vacuum up all the blood in a surgery's section before you can continue with the next one, which eats up at the timer very quickly.
* SequelDifficultyDrop: ''Amateur Surgeon 2'' is considerably easier than its predecessors, particularly when going for a high score as [[ScoreMultiplier combos]] are much easier to keep up. Even the trickier levels aren't too bad once you know what to do.
* TearJerker: The second bonus level for ''Amateur Surgeon 2'' ends with [[spoiler:Alan reuniting with Dr. Bleed after reviving him with vampire tears. Uncharacteristically from him, Alan feels too sad to be able to really joke around, while Bleed spends the time with him congratulating him for his innovative success as a surgeon. Once Bleed leaves to return to the afterlife, Alan is left alone and crying]].
* ThatOneLevel: [[ThatOneLevel/AmateurSurgeon Has its own page]].
* UselessUsefulSpell: A couple partners in the fourth game apply.
** Max Chaos's ability is to change your patient's injuries into other types, which sounds like it could be useful to quickly get rid of injuries that are difficult or tedious to treat. However, Max's powers are auto-generated, so you're unable to control ''what'', exactly, you want to change, and chances are you'll end up with something even ''more'' annoying, such as floating swirling objects that are very difficult to catch. It's doubtful you'll find yourself wanting to use him, and he seems to exist solely to create challenging Partner Specials, like in the case of Level 92 (Useful Brother).
** Ted Rando cuts up the patient to find coins or diamonds, leaving some additional injuries for you to treat in exchange of getting an increase in currency earnings. While he could serve well to create an optional bonus task if you're near the end of a surgery and see you have plenty of time left, the problem is that you can't even use Ted manually; the time he triggers his ability is automatically randomized. Thus, he can be triggered in the middle of the surgery, usually when you ''really'' don't want any more things to deal with.
