* HoYay: Frey comes to live in Kyo's house; once, they start arguing about Kyo taking too long in the shower while Frey is waiting outside (wearing just a towel) and somehow they accidentally kiss when Kyo finally comes out. Kyo is horrified; Frey is... not. After that he keeps threatening to kiss Kyo again ([[PlayedForLaughs and a few times actually doing it]]), apparently just to annoy him. Canonically they're competing for Alice's affection, yet Frey's behavior gives the impression he wouldn't mind resolving the LoveTriangle by a ménage à trois.
* NightmareFuel:
** A lot of the Mara demons have very frightening designs, particularly the one that looks like it was a younger version of Alice... at [[CreepyChild first]].
** Mayura gives Alice's mother a disease and transports her father away, with the intention of leaving her all alone. It's even worse because they're ''her'' parents too.
** Mayura attacks Alice ''in the bathtub'' at one point. It sounds narmy, but it's terrifying, as she stops time and shatters the shower pane to slice at Alice with glass shards.
* ParanoiaFuel: Mayura kidnaps Alice's dad and poisons her mom, intending to leave her fully alone. Made even worse because they're ''her'' parents too.
* TearJerker: [[spoiler: Nyozeka's HeroicSacrifice, when she dies protecting Alice. Although Master Lotsuan reveals to Alice that she is going to reincarnate sooner or later, the way she sacrificed because she loved and trusted Alice too much (and because [[HeartwarmingInHindsight she always wanted to meet a human whose heart would connect with her]]) is heartbreaking.]] The fact that [[spoiler:she dies in her rabbit form]] makes it worse.
* ViewerGenderConfusion: Darva's real gender. Since his human appearance [[DudeLooksLikeALady looks very feminine]] in design (he has long hair, and some delicate features), many people thought that Darva was a woman at first. The official translators didn't catch up until later into the series, when the characters started referring to Darva as a man.
