* ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontWatch: Samuel Bayer, the director, accused its detractors of doing this. Had he just been making a comment about how much of the criticism was coming from people who hadn't actually watched the film, then he would in all likelihood have been 100% correct -- unfortunately, the way he phrased his comments made it clear that he thought anyone who had anything bad to say about the remake, ''including professional critics'', couldn't possibly have watched it. Naturally, this led to an InternetBackdraft, and even several critics commenting how silly his remarks were.
* CompleteMonster: Freddy Krueger is just as monstrous in the reboot. In life, he was a child molester working as a gardener at a preschool. In death, he returns to kill all those who attended the preschool. He punctures one of his victims through the heart, then taunts him on the fact that his brain will keep going seven minutes after his heart stops beating. He keeps Nancy alive solely so she can remember him molesting her, before he rapes and kills her.
* HilariousInHindsight: Creator/JohnnyDepp tagged along to auditions for [[Film/ANightmareOnElmStreet1984 the original film]] with a friend. Wes Craven asked Depp to read as well, and Depp was cast other than the friend he was supporting. But fret not about the friend. 26 years later, Jackie Earle Haley would go on to play Freddy.
** There's an interesting parallel between Marcus Yeon's final vidlog and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toXMt1rzdrA this viral clip]].
* OlderThanTheyThink: A lot of reviewers and people who watched the movie praised the introduction of micro-naps to the series as a clever invention. They were actually introduced in ''Film/FreddyVsJason'', in which Lori's father briefly morphs into Freddy in broad daylight when she's sleep-deprived.
* TheScrappy: Nancy Holbrook, often cited as one of the worst final girls of all time.
* SoOkayItsAverage: While Haley's performance as Freddy and the research put into constant waking state is liked, the rest of the film is held as another failed attempt to recapture past glory.
* {{Squick}}: Damn near everything to do with Freddy. Even before he was burned, his interactions with the children are unbelievably uncomfortable to watch, especially if you actually allow yourself to picture him hurting the kids.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: They bring up the possibility of Freddy being innocent of the child molesting, but that's soon thrown right out.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Haley's performence as Freddy was liked, but the rest of the movie had mixed reaction.
** Katie Cassidy (Kris) was also relatively well recieved with some reviewers wishing she had been the actual FinalGirl rather than the [[DecoyProtagonist decoy.]]
