The '''''What A Cartoon! Show''''' (originally known as '''''World Premiere Toons''''', and later renamed '''''The Cartoon Cartoon Show''''') was a series of cartoon shorts [[CartoonCartoons produced]] to air on Creator/CartoonNetwork in the mid-1990s. The president of Creator/{{Hanna-Barbera}} at the time wanted to recreate the glory days of WesternAnimation by allowing creators to produce original short cartoons to be aired on Cartoon Network. The premiere of the project was on a special hosted by [[WesternAnimation/SpaceGhostCoastToCoast Space Ghost]].

Some of the cartoons were popular enough to be made into series, (''[[{{WesternAnimation/DextersLaboratory}} Dexter's Laboratory]]'', ''WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirls'', ''WesternAnimation/CourageTheCowardlyDog'', ''WesternAnimation/JohnnyBravo'', ''WesternAnimation/CowAndChicken'', etc.). Two wound up being the prototype for a much more popular toon later on (''Larry & Steve'' would serve as one of the inspirations for ''WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy'' and ''Kenny and the Chimp'' was retooled into ''WesternAnimation/CodenameKidsNextDoor''). While others faded into obscurity like ''Yoink of the Yukon'', ''Pfish & Chip'', ''Yuckie Duck'', and ''Shake & Flick''. They even made a few shorts of ''WesternAnimation/TheFlintstones''.

Its spiritual successor was meant to be ''WesternAnimation/{{Cartoonstitute}}'' (headed by two popular animators who got their start on ''WAC'': Creator/CraigMcCracken and Rob Renzetti) , but that sadly never got off the ground. Creator/{{Nickelodeon}} would develop their own version, ''WesternAnimation/OhYeahCartoons'', which would spin off its own programs ''WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddparents'', ''WesternAnimation/MyLifeAsATeenageRobot'', and ''WesternAnimation/ChalkZone''.

!!Tropes featured:

* AllCGICartoon: "Strange Things".
* ArtisticLicenseHistory: ''Gramps''. His grandkids keep pointing out the errors in his story and how he actually lived his life. For example, when he mentions in his story that the President was a statuesque woman, he begs them to let this part remain unchanged when they point out that America never had a female President.
* ButtMonkey: Yuckie Duck.
* CaptainErsatz: The Psychotic Colonel Sanders ghost from ''Podunk Possum''.
* CaptivityHarmonica: ''Pizza Boy in No Tip''.
* TheChewToy: Poor, poor Shake from ''Shake & Flick''.
** A literal one, at that.
* ChannelHop: An interesting example in which further ''Mina and the Count'' shorts were made for OhYeahCartoons instead of What A Cartoon.
* ChristmasEpisode: ''George and Junior's Christmas Spectacular''.
* DerangedAnimation: Anything directed by Pat Ventura: ''Yuckie Duck'', ''Sledgehammer O'Possum'', and ''George and Junior''. Also ''Buy One, Get One Free'', which has visual influences from ''TheRenAndStimpyShow'' (not hurt by a few staff members who worked on that show).
** Also the two Creator/RalphBakshi shorts ''Babe! He Calls Me'' and ''Malcom and Melvin'', and ''Tales of Worm Paranoia'', directed by Eddie Fitzgerald.
* DuelingShows: With ''OhYeahCartoons'', though not until the late [[TheNineties '90s]].
* FrothyMugsOfWater: {{Averted}} in ''Captain Buzz Cheaply: A Clean Getaway''.
* GroinAttack: ''Fat Cats in Drip Dry Drips'' features a scene where Louie accidentally hits the President in the grapes when he was doing his measurements.
* HereWeGoAgain: The ending of ''Godfrey and Zeek''.
* HumansAreCthulhu: ''Tales of Worm Paranoia''. Unlike most other examples, it's a straight up CosmicHorrorStory.
* KidWithTheLeash: ''MinaAndTheCount''.
* MadBomber: ''Pfish & Chip'''s stock in trade is to catch these guys.
* ManateeGag: ''Larry and Steve'' had some. Justified in that SethMacFarlane was behind the cartoon and this would later be the hallmark for his more popular work, ''FamilyGuy''.
* MimeAndMusicOnlyCartoon: ''Help?'', which has no dialog aside from Jof's "Help!"
* MinorInjuryOverreaction: Jof in ''Help?'', who runs to the hospital after he ''pricks his finger while sewing''.
* NoodleIncident: Whatever happened to Grandma in ''Gramps''. "SHE WAS DEAD WHEN I GOT THERE!!"
* TheOtherDarrin: Sledgehammer O'Possum was first voiced by Faizon Love (who was on the 1990s WB sitcom ''The Parent 'Hood'') in ''Out and About''. Then, in his second cartoon, ''What's Goin' On Back There'', he is voiced by T.K. Carter (who played [[PunkyBrewster Punky Brewster's]] favorite teacher on the live-action sitcom of the same name).
* PostScriptSeason: Sort of. 48 cartoons were contracted for 1995-97, but more were made after that including ''MikeLuAndOg'', ''Kenny And The Chimp'', ''King Crab: Space Crustacean'', and the Big Pick shorts from 2000-02.
* PunctuatedForEmphasis: (After seeing a zombie) AAAAAHHH!!! [[GratuitousEnglish *whack* OH! *whack* MAH! *whack* GAAAWD!]]: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcNexLXRres&feature=related The opening theme]]. "WHAT! A! CARTOOOOOOOOON!"
* RampageFromANail: The lion in the second Yuckie Duck short "I'm On My Way" gets a tack stuck in his rear end.
* SayMyName: From "Dry Dry Drips": "EEELLLMOOOOOO!"
* ScrewySquirrel: ''Sledgehammer O'Possum''.
* SlasherSmile: The aforementioned psychotic Colonel Sanders Ghost wears a perpetual one while smashing eggs and delivering completely nonsensical catchphrases. [[CaptainObvious Chickens are terrified of him for a reason.]]
* SpinOff: Famously, ''Dexter's Laboratory'', ''The Powerpuff Girls'', ''Johnny Bravo'', ''Cow and Chicken'', and ''Courage the Cowardly Dog'' (and, to a lesser extent, ''Family Guy'' and ''Codename: Kids Next Door'').
* SquiggleVision: The characters in ''The Kitchen Casanova'' squiggle slightly (though Tom Snyder Productions had nothing to do with this short).
* ThemeTune: There were two of them. The first was a heavy metal piece. Reruns of the show used the Cartoon Cartoon Fridays theme.
* ThickLineAnimation: Some of the cartoons utilized this design style, such as ''Pizza Boy in No Tip'', ''Godfrey and Zeek'', ''The Powerpuff Girls'', and ''Dexter's Laboratory''.
* ToServeMan: ''Gramps'' {{lampshade}}d this when a character runs to Gramps, exclaiming what he found before he is hit by a golf club by Gramps, exclaiming, "It's been done!"
* WideEyedIdealist: Yoink, even though he doesn't die.
