''Hot Wheels: [=AcceleRacers=]'' is a [[AllCGICartoon CGI-animated]] saga by created by MainframeEntertainment, known for the GenreLaunch of CGI animation after creating ''WesternAnimation/ReBoot'', and endorsed by Creator/{{Mattel}}. Initially, it was planned to run for six movies, but stopped at four, with webisodes bridging the gaps between each movie. Said movies ran as specials on the Creator/{{Toonami}} block of Creator/CartoonNetwork.

Continuing after the events of Hot Wheels World Race, former multiversal grand prix competitors turned street racers, Vert Wheeler, Taro Kitano & brothers Kurt and Markie Wylde find themselves teaming back up with Dr. Peter Tela. Gelorum and her army of Racing Drones have reappeared to take back the Wheel of Power and are accessing the Racing Realms. The Racing Realms have tracks that are dominated by specific elements that make for severe driving conditions (such as the Fog Realm for driving in, well, [[CaptainObvious fog conditions]]. Those who conquer a Realm gains an Accelecharger which allows a car to drive with no complications in the conditions of the associated realm. With the help of Dr. Tezla, the racers enter the realms to obtain the Accelechargers before Gelorum's Drones do.

The movies stand as follows:

* ''Hot Wheels: [=AcceleRacers=] Ignition'' (Released January 8, 2005, 60 minutes)
* ''Hot Wheels: [=AcceleRacers=] The Speed of Silence'' (Released March 19, 2005, 60 minutes)
* ''Hot Wheels: [=AcceleRacers=] Breaking Point'' (Released June 25, 2005, 60 minutes)
* ''Hot Wheels: [=AcceleRacers=] The Ultimate Race'' (Released October 1, 2005, 60 minutes)

A ''much'' more detailed synopsis of all four movies that originally was part of this page's description can be found on the [[Recap/HotWheelsAcceleRacers Recap page]]. Additional tropes from World Race are listed here for context.

For the most part, it was MerchandiseDriven, just like its predecessor, ''Hot Wheels: Highway 35 World Race''. The competent storyline and very vehicle in the toyline being tailor-made to fit in with the story suggests it was also made [[DoingItForTheArt for the art]], much like ''ReBoot''. Because Mattel paid to make these movies, it was impossible to be ScrewedByTheNetwork, as they would just take their business elsewhere- but the company that did the CGI animation was another story. All four movies were released to shelves over the course of 2005, but for unknown reasons, the series was LeftHanging at the end of the fourth film. It's highly likely this is because Mainframe ran into unresolved monetary issues that resulted in their inability to make more films. Eventually, this caused a fallout that led to their buyout by Rainmaker Entertainment in 2007. Since then, Hot Wheels has not given insight as to whether this series will be concluded. Unfortunately, a large period of time has muddled the presence of [=AcceleRacers=], as it is never seen beyond the internet these days. However, when a film hits the Website/YouTube community, it gains notable viewership. Until the cliffhanger is resolved, this series floats in limbo. More recently, Vert Wheeler's character reappeared as the lead character in WesternAnimation/HotWheelsBattleForce5, but that series has no connection to World Race and [=AcceleRacers=].
----
!!''Hot Wheels World Race'' provides examples of:
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Markie is this to Kurt Wylde
* AscendedExtra: Dan Dresden, who goes from just a random name that Markie mentions to [[spoiler: leader of the Street Breed and finishing in 3rd place.]]
* AllThereInTheManual: The Racers not brought up by name, taken to ridiculous extremes with the Scorchers, where the only information given is that their team leader,Taro, is rich, has ski-ed down Mt. Everest twice, and in relationship with Lani Tam. We don't even discover that Taro's supposed to be Asian until his redesign in [=AcceleRacers=]. Number 35 gets a few non-speaking cameos, but is the only other Scorcher to appear in the flesh more than once.
* AwesomeYetPractical: Vert's surfing and skateboarding skills, Sidedraft's Eye in the Sky, the Turbo Jets' on the Wave Ripper's cars (Vert relies on them for EVERYTHING.)
* ArtisticLicense:Physics: Vert's final Jump [[spoiler: to return the Wheel.]] The rest of the stunts may be justified, given the fact that the materials for the cars is never given, no car ever reaches 300 mph, and they're racing in an alternate dimension where gravity might be slightly weaker.
* BashBrothers: Though not of the team-up variety, Kurt and Markie frequently cause other drivers to experience collisions. At one point, they're even bashing each other.
* Heel-Face Turn: Kurt Wylde (though he was never evil per-see, only misled.)
* FiveManBand along with FiveTokenBand: Determined by the plot: among the Team Leaders with a rotation of three SixthRanger s.
** TheHero: Vert Wheeler
** TheLancer: Kurt Wylde
** TheHeart: Brian Kadeem
** TheBigGuy: Taro Kitano
** The RecklessPacifist: Banjee Castillo
** SixthRanger: Markie is unusual in that he is a TagAlongKid as well, and not the last among the group to join the Good Guys: that honor belongs to [[spoiler: his older brother, Kurt.]]
*** Alec Wood and Dan Dresden spend some time as Sixth Rangers themselves on the track, if not in the plot, both finishing 3rd at their best in a leg.
* FriendlyRivalry: though some of them bicker with each other on occasion, each of the drivers get along surprisingly well with each other even while racing.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Kurt Wylde ... so very much. [[spoiler: He's not willing to sabotage the other drivers. And he doesn't want his younger brother Markie to get hurt.]]
* OneLiner: Multiple:
** "What's the matter, Banjee? Didn't you ever learn how to grind a half-pipe?"
** "Wisdom is a circle; what you receive you must give back."
** "I'm out of here." (said by Vert right before the Wheel of Power reopens the Portal.)
** "Some people just can't drive in traffic."
** "Let's see how well you drive...in HALF a car. "
** "I'm gonna pass you."
* OrderedToCheat: Kurt Wylde [[spoiler: by Gelorum.]]
* [[{{OlderThanTheyLook}} Older Than They Act]]: Markie, only in comparison to Vert. Markie constantly gives the impression that he's younger than Vert, which wouldn't be a problem if Vert wasn't more than a couple days older than sixteen. It doesn't help that the adjective that Markie evokes is "Younger" due to being Kurt's younger brother. So either Markie is only a couple of days to a week younger than Vert (if the World Race started soon after Vert got the Deora II), or Markie is older than Vert.
* PlotThreads: Despite being the main character, Vert's personal growth, aside from a single conversation with Kadeem and helping Taro save Lani, is almost entirely relegated to the GrandFinale, rendering Vert into a temporary DecoyProtagonist or [[{{Deuteragonist}} Tritagonist]], depending on your preference, while Taro and Banjee are placed center-stage on the track, and Kurt Wylde alternates sharing the non-racing spotlight with Kadeem and Markie.
* RealityEnsues: Both played straight and possibly averted. When Vert's dad appears (Vert only left a note while his dad was away on duty), he promptly has Vert grounded for a month. Though you would think that if a parent discovered that their 16-year old had just prevented the most powerful known energy source from falling into evil hands, and donated his 5 million dollars from winning the race to help a group of Africans in desperate need, would probably not ground the kid.
* TheReveal: [[spoiler: Kurt Wylde is Zedd-36. Though it's not particularly hard to figure out due to the fact that Slingshot and Zedd-36 are the same shape and never appear together. The "Why is that surf rat prowling around?" scene almost cements it beforehand.]] Also, Gelorum [[spoiler: isn't human.]]
** "That's pretty [[{{StealthPun}} wild]]. Even for Kurt."
* TrueCompanions: Alec is this to Vert. Later on, Markie is as well to Vert.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart Looking sleek in all black, white-haired Gelorum is the primary villain and very evil, wanting the racers "eliminated".
* VagueAge: No one but Vert is given a confirmed age beyond "over sixteen." Though Alec and Markie are likely to be in the sixteen-seventeen range.

!!''Hot Wheels: [=AcceleRacers=]'' provides examples of:
* AcceptableBreaksFromReality:[[spoiler: Vert's jumping off the track and falling down several dozens meters to catch up to Gelorum in the Cliffside Realm should have destroyed his car on impact. Possibly justified, however, since the Accelerons might have tweaked with gravity in that realm.]]
** Either that, or his car is ''MadeofIndestructium''.
* {{Adorkable}}: Monkey.
* AllJustADream: At the beginning of the Speed of Silence, Dr. Tezla [[spoiler: without his biosuit]] is an indication that the attack by Gelorum and the drones on the Acceledrome is only this. [[spoiler: In hindsight, so is the green-glowing symbol as it never appears on the hologram at any other point.]]
* AppliedPhlebotinum: The Accelechargers; and just like the World Race, Nitrox-2
* ArtEvolution: Some of the characters from Highway 35 look different. Most notable is the change to Taro.
* TheBigGuy: Porkchop.
** The Metal Maniacs (save for Monkey) are generally bulkier than the Tekus or the other human characters.
* BookEnds: The first movie shows the sign to Highway 35 being knocked off its post, indicating that the good times of the World Race are a ruin of the past, as is Tesla's rundown cube, which was the desert headquarters of the tournament. In the fourth movie, Markie sees the displaced sign and remounts it to its signpost, signifying all is well again.
* ButtMonkey: [[MeaningfulName Monkey]].
* CatchPhrase: ''Move the metal!'' (by the Metal Maniacs).
** "I'm going to pass you." -- Taro
* {{Chekhovs Gun}}: The drone,which became the top half of Sparky, that comes through the portol with Vert gives Karma knowledge on how the Racing Drones operate. Remember Taro in the Water Realm and his MiracleRally [[spoiler: attempt that lands him in the Drone Headquarters? Kurt's plan in the Ultimate Race can't happen without that knowledge.]] Karma's idea that the point is to master the Realm's skill rather than Dr. Tezla's focus on the Accelecharger?
** {{Chekhovs Boomerang}}: Sparky [[spoiler: provides the distraction for Vert to drive Reverb in pursuit of Gelorum in the Ultimate Race, and then eventually clues the other drivers that Vert is alive at the end of the Ultimate Race.]]
** {{Chekhovs Gunman}}: Shirako is this as a driver. If he shows up inside the Realm, he's doing something very important plot-wise. This usually entails screwing up the track's plan (done in the Swamp, Cavern Realm, and Junk Realm) with Bassline, he isn't shown. If not that, he's shown having his vehicle transport destroyed (Motorcycle in the Pipeline Realm, his car both the Cliffside Realm and the Drone HQ) for something plot relevant. He gives Monkey the Drone legs that become the bottom half to Sparky at the end of the Junk Realm. His Cliffside Realm maneuver is even copied [[spoiler: by Vert in the Ultimate Race.]]
* CollectibleCardGame: They actually made a decent one where despite using cards you get through racing realms.
* ContinuityNod: [[spoiler: Kurt's time as Zedd-36 under Gelorum]]
* ColorCodedCharacters: Teku have blue, Metal Maniacs have gray and brown, Racing Drones have green, and the Silencerz have purple.
* CyberneticsEatYourSoul: [[spoiler:Invoked by Gelorum on Kadeem, turning him into a humanoid drone so he will give her all the information about the Acceledrome she needs.]]
* DoNotCallMePaul: Monkey is always called by his full name "Mitchell Mc Clurg" during announcements made my GIG or Tesla, much to his chagrin and unheard protest. He is somewhat successful because Kurt has no idea who "Mitchell" is.
* [[{{DownToTheLastPlay}} Down To The Last Driver]]: Vert in the Ultimate Race, Taro [[spoiler: in the Water Realm.]]
* TheFaceless: The Silencerz.
* FiveSecondForeshadowing: When Lani wonders how all eight of the drivers could get inside the Drone HQ, she trails off, a GilliganCut follows of the drivers actually doing it.
* FlatCharacter: Shirako, due to his lack of personality outside "listening to music" in the Realms to the Drones' disadvantage, and the fact that he keeps disappearing Mid-Realm (from the viewer standpoint) at the worst possible time!
* {{Foil}}: The cast members show a surprisingly complex dynamic:
** The Teku and the Metal Maniacs are rivaling street racing groups, who contrast each other in looks/clothes, taste of music and the designs of their cars. Their respective leaders, Nolo (young and sometimes short-tempered) and Tork (experienced and calm), have been butting heads for years over the death of Nolo's brother Tone, which he blames on Tork. While the Metal Maniac leader may or may not agree with the sentiment, the incident still haunts him.
* {{Forgiveness}}: [[spoiler:In ''Ultimate Race'', Tork apologizes to Nolo for Tone's death, at which Nolo finally admits it wasn't Tork's fault - it was Tone's, as he hadn't paid attention while drifting. Monkey, who's with them in the Sweeper's driver's cabin, asks incrediously "That's it?" after they say nothing more, lampshading the fact they've been fighting over this for a long time and they reconcile apparently so easily.]]
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: Vert tries to go back and rescue Kadeem in the Storm Realm, but gets a late warning from Lani that unlike in the World Race, these portals stay open for one hour only- when it shuts, you're screwed. Vert hightails it back to the portal and picks up an attacking racing drone, but the clock runs out just as he makes it out of the realm. Deora II gets splinched between the Acceledrome and Storm Realm, and so does the Racing Drone. Vert makes it out unscathed, but his poor car has lost its whole back end, surfboards included. The metal of the car where the surprisingly clean cut was made is also searing hot.
** The Racing Drone that hitchiked on Deora II tries to swipe Tesla's leg braces to fix itself, but is then taken out by force before it can escape into a racing realm. Said Drone is reprogrammed into Scrappy by Monkey in the third movie, and Shirako gives Scrappy a replacement set of legs that ended up on his car in the Junk Realm from a trashed bike Drone.
** Taro nearly suffers the same fate after ending up in the Racing Drone's realm by accident. To get back to the Acceledrome, he has to re-enter the Water Realm and race ''the entire gamut over again'', with little time before the portal shuts. He makes it out by the skin of his teeth, but the portal eats a chunk of his rear bumper, showing you it was that close.
* HowDidYouKnowIDidnt: Taro invokes this at the Junk Realm, against a Silencer posing as Kurt.
* {{Irony}}: At the end of "World Race", Gelorum asks how well Vert would drive with only half a car. Fastforward to [=AcceleRacers=], Vert completes the Storm Realm with only the front half of his car, giving the Deora II the honor of being the only World Race car not to be completely lost (the back half gets sliced clean off because the portal closes) racing in the Realms.
** Sad one in the Water Realm, Vert is a surfer and has used his surfing tricks to his advantage, but he accidentally takes a turn too hard, loses control, and has to eject from his vehicle as it careens off the track- which promptly smacks into a rock and blows up real good. It's why his failure in the Water Realm leads him to leave because he lost a golden chance at an Accelecharger and almost doomed Taro to exile in the Water Realm.
* LeftHanging: The movies stopped on a ''whopping'' cliffhanger... and then the line of installments went kaput. [[SarcasmMode GREAT.]]
* KarmaHoudini: Shirako, Bassline only sustains damage once and even after Shirako bails using the EDR in the Cliffside Realm, it reappears. On top of that, even though he can't hear his surroundings due to his headphones, he never once gets caught in a trap in any Realm. Not even when he has a pair of drone legs obscuring his vision on the portion of the Junk Realm, where bad timing leads you getting swatted off the track with a giant revolving metal spikey ball.
* [[{{BigNo}} Long NOO!!!!]]: Monkey's reaction when Gig tells him they aren't getting paid.
* MechaMooks: The drones.
* MerchandiseDriven: Every car highlighted in the show was made into a Hot Wheels car for the 2005 model line (and many have been re-issued for later model lines). It's painfully obvious after the Storm Realm in Ignition. Of the 35 cars present in the World Race, only the front half of the Deora II is able to finish a Realm. Slingshot, '70 Plymouth Road Runner, Crazy 8s, Sidedraft (Dan Dresden's car), Banjee's car, and Alec Wood's car are confirmed to be lost racing through the Realms. ( Banjee's makes a cameo in the Swamp Realm, giving it the unlikely honor of the most recent appearance of a World Race car.) Slingshot ends up overturned with a wheel snapped off, resulting in its abandonment, because there's no time to rescue it before the portal shuts. Krazy 8's has its parachute vaporized by Drones, sending it plummeting into the abyss. As for Taro's '70's Roadrunner, it has its electronics toasted by a freak lightning strike. Deora II almost joins the completely lost list, becoming [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe half the car it used to be]] when Vert skims through the portal just as it closes, and it effectively bisects his vehicle between dimensions upon shutting. All the old cars get abandoned in the Storm Realm, and some sources say that Alec's car, despite no cameo, is there as well.
* MiracleRally: Taro attempts this at the end of the Water Realm. [[spoiler: He doesn't quite get it done.]]
* MythologyGag: This one goes back to Highway 35, but Vert's dad resembles (is?) the main character from the old 1960s Hot Wheels television show.
* OneLiner: "I've got trouble." --- Taro. Cue fifteen seconds later, "I've got more trouble."
* PlotParallel: The Water Realm almost perfectly sums up the realms for the drivers before the Ultimate Race. Vert continues to experience sub-par driving. Markie attempts to take revenge on Kurt only for the drones to wreck it. A Teku driver uses the Swamp Accelecharger to get back onto the track. And Shirako either plays his music loudly or is unaccounted for half the Realm.
* PowerGlows: Whenever the Accelechargers are used during driving.
** [[spoiler: The Acceleron's telekineses on Gelorum and creating a Wheel of Power]].
* {{Precursors}}: The Accelerons are [[SufficientlyAdvancedAlien sufficiently advanced beings]] whose members are able to [[spoiler:create dimension portals and Wheels of Power, use telekinesis and transform exisiting matter into another form just by moving their fingers]].
* TheQuietOne: Despite his loud music, it's Shirako. To the point where some of Realm's plots begin to rely on forgetting about him unless he's necessary. He's not shown captured in the Swamp Realm. He's not anywhere near Taro at the end of the Water Realm (but is confirmed to get out), despite clearly getting back on the Track. And you wonder how he got out of the Pipeline Realm, considering he was standing in front of a Silencerz car after his motorcycle got trashed.
** It wasn't a Silencerz, though. It was [[spoiler: Dr. Tesla.]]
** Taro qualifies as well.
* TheReveal: The ending [[spoiler:shows that Vert's dad is one of the Silencerz]].
* RobotWar: On racetracks!
* RobotBuddy: GIG, and later the captured racing drone too which Monkey calls 'Sparky'.
* RubberBandAI: With the exception of the Swamp Realm, the drones are this.
* RuinsForRuinsSake: Averted so very much. It's an actual Realm, and it gives a history of the Accelerons.
* RunningGag: Any drone not in a car near Shirako always end up getting destroyed due to Bassline, to the point where he takes out more drones than anybody else in the series.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Taro says a variation after ending up the Drone HQ by accident at the conclusion of his first go through of the Water Realm.
* SeriousBusiness: The Accelerons treat racing like this, given all the effort they put into engineering the racing realms.
* SequelHook: A huge one, unfortunately a sequel hasn't happened yet.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Shirako and his usage of Bassline's speakers. The Accelerons clearly didn't plan for him blasting his music at the giant bugs and bats in the Swamp and Cavern Realms respectively. Nor for him to cause the Junk Realm piles to collapse on the track. The Drones certainly didn't plan on him either as he both dispatches a group of Drone motorcyclists or provides the inspiration for Vert [[spoiler: during the Cliffside Realm in the Ultimate Race. If Vert hadn't done it, Gelorum would have won the race by a landslide.]]
* SteelEardrums: Shirako's. He should have gone deaf by now.
* StrongAsTheyNeedToBe: Shirako's Bassline (And eardrums) In the Cliffside Realm mini-episode, a drone disrupts Shirako's boosters to point where his car will explode if he tries using them. Yet in the Junk Realm, the same thing happens and Bassline doesn't suffer any damage. The strength and frequency of the car's soundwaves also varies, able to be heard without deafening the listener, and yet still be able to destroy Drone Motorcycle bots and giant bugs and bats.
* StunnedSilence: When Taro accidentally ends up in the Drone HQ
* [[{{ThirdActStupidity}} Third Realm Stupidity]]: Vert in the water Realm
* TragicKeepsake: Nolo has Tone's broken necklace from the crash that killed him, which has a piece of the "T" snapped off.
* TronLines: Not overtly, but they are part of the drones' design and their base of operation.
** Some of the racing realms as well.
* UnwillingRoboticisation: What Gelorum has had done to [[spoiler:Kadeem and Marky]] - the latter is rescued soon enough that only [[ArtificialLimbs one of his arms is replaced]]. The first [[spoiler: becomes a drone himself]].
* VirtualTrainingSimulation: Karma is seen using one.
* TheVoiceless: The Silencerz never speak aloud while seen on screen. It's subverted at the end of ''Ultimate Race'' [[spoiler:when Jack Wheeler reveals himself to be as one of the Silencerz to Vert and tell his son they need to talk]].
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Due to the last two movies not being finished, [[spoiler:Kadeem's final fate after falling from the tower is left unknown. Given he was transformed into a drone, his body could have survived the crash]].
** Another example: Ever wondered what happened to other racers before the show? [[spoiler: Given the state of his car, Banjee's dead. The other two confirmed racers, Dan Dresden and Alec Wood are likely to be as well.]]
* XtremeKoolLetterz: Silencerz provide a minor example.
