''[[http://ozyandmillie.org/ Ozy and Millie]]'' was a webcomic by Creator/DCSimpson that followed the daily lives of its two titular characters, who are children in an anthropomorphised-animal version of the [[TheOtherRainforest Northwestern United States]].

It was written in the style of a [[NewspaperComics Newspaper Comic]], with a four-panel format, writing reminiscent of ''ComicStrip/{{Peanuts}}'' and ''ComicStrip/CalvinAndHobbes'', and an ensemble cast that seems inspired by ''ComicStrip/{{Pogo}}''. The story arcs meander through political commentary and philosophy while simultaneously dealing with the children's own problems such as fitting in at school.

[[folder: Characters: ]]

* '''Ozymandias ("Ozy") Justin Llewellyn''', a young Arctic fox. Tends towards excessive zen [[TheStoic stoicism]] and DeadpanSnarker-dom.
* '''Millicent ("Millie") Mehitabel Mudd''', a red fox. Excitable and [[RebelliousSpirit rebellious]], prone to random acts of destruction, but has a good heart.
* '''Llewellyn''', a dragon and Ozy's adoptive father. He appears to be slightly over a century old and is prone to {{Historical In Joke}}s, especially ones related to obscure presidents (e.g., he claims to be responsible for UsefulNotes/WilliamHowardTaft getting stuck in the White House bathtub), as well as bad Zen jokes. He runs for president every four years, despite having seceded from the United States to form the nation of Greater Llewellynland.
* '''Ms. Mudd''', Millie's mother. A lawyer and single mother. Although the most normal of the main four characters, she is implied to have been similar to Millie at her age. Also, her "hair" is blue for some reason. In October 2008, near the end of the strip's run, her full name was finally revealed as '''Mililani Minerva Mudd'''.
* '''Avery''', a raccoon child prone to mindless following of pop-cultural trends.
* '''Timulty''', Avery's younger brother, who radiates IncorruptiblePurePureness (it helps that he's four years old).
* '''The dread pirate Locke''', a fox who lives in a magical land inside Llewellyn's couch, is subject to MerlinSickness, [[spoiler: and is Millie's father.]]
* '''Felicia''', a sheep and the AlphaBitch (who later started moving in the DefrostingIceQueen direction).
* '''Jeremy''', a JerkJock [[KillerRabbit rabbit]] who seems to live to [[StuffedIntoATrashcan stuff Ozy into trash cans]]. He's also attacked Millie a time or two.
* '''Stephan''', a truly epic geek.
* '''Isolde''', Llewellyn's niece, Ozy's cousin, and an aspiring reporter. Often helps Llewellyn with his plans and babysits Ozy and Millie.

Now has a [[Characters/OzyAndMillie Character Sheet]].

!!Tropes:
* AllAnimalsAreDogs: Millie wags her tail when happy.
** [[JustifiedTrope Could be justified by the human level intellect and it being an active choice on her part that she does because she's imitating what she's seen dogs do in-universe]]
*** Could also be justified in that domesticated foxes (canids, like dogs) [[RealityisUnrealistic do wag their tails when happy]].
* AllGirlsLikePonies: Millie joins Locke's rebellion against Llewellyn when she finds out it's because Llewellyn wouldn't give him a pony.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Stephan's love interest rejects him in favor of Jeremy.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Lampshaded.
* AlliterativeName: Millicent Mehitabel and Mililani Minerva Mudd.
* AlternateUniverse: The world under Llewellyn's couch cushions.
* AlphaBitch: Felicia.
* AncientConspiracy: Lots, played for laughs. Most of them have been organized, perpetrated, and extended by dragons. ForTheLulz.
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: Many jokes throughout the series
* ArtEvolution: [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] at one point.
* AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistence: The fate of Ozy's biological mother. She invented the perfect flavor of ice cream, you see...
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny:
** Millie Mudd [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2008/08/04/ozy-and-millie-2103/ here]]. And that was just the latest example.
** Practically by name [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2000/08/21/ozy-and-millie-410/ here]]
* AuthorAppeal: A look at some of the author's ''other'' art reveals that [[PronounTrouble they]] have, of all things, a ''shaving fetish''. This was worked into the comic as a RunningGag.
* AuthorFilibuster: Simpson was known to work her liberal views into some of the strips.
* BarefootCartoonAnimal: Most of the cast, with the exceptions noted below in HalfDressedCartoonAnimal and TheOneWhoWearsShoes.
* BeachEpisode: Happens in one arc.
* BeatPanel: Usually after Llewellyn or Millie says something off-the-wall. Often followed by a FlatWhat.
* BilingualBonus: Dr. Wahnsinnig, the school psychiatrist. Her name means "insane" in German. Which is ironic, considering she's something of an [[OnlySaneMan Only Sane Lemur]] compared to the rest of the staff.
* ButtMonkey: Ozy.
* {{Calvinball}}: [[http://ozyandmillie.org/1999/01/26/ozy-and-millie-154/ House Rules Parcheesi.]]
** Lampshaded [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2000/07/13/ozy-and-millie-430/ here]].
* CassandraTruth: When Ozy [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2000/09/09/ozy-and-millie-455/ recounts his summer vacation]], he gets sent to the psychiatrist's office.
* CatSmile: Millie has [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2006/02/06/ozy-and-millie-1595/ a bit of one]] when she finally manages to annoy the ambassador from the U.S.
* CloudCuckooLander: Millie and Llewellyn.
* ContemplateOurNavels: Lampshaded [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2000/11/11/ozy-and-millie-518/ here]].
* CoolShades: Invoked in [[http://http://ozyandmillie.org/1999/02/02/ozy-and-millie-159/ this]] strip.
* CrimeOfSelfDefense: Jeremy keeps pushing Millie into a pool of mud, knocking her over every time she tries to get up. Finally, she snaps and socks him in the face... at which point a teacher immediately spots her, and hauls her into the principal's office for starting a fight.
* CuteLittleFangs: Cute little vulpine fangs. Despite the cast being comprised of several carnivorous animals (some of which are mythological) most often their teeth are downplayed. The art usually only highlights Millie's fangs, whenever she's saying something particularly crazy.
* DeadpanSnarker: Ozy.
* DoesNotUnderstandSarcasm: [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2001/04/08/ozy-and-millie-656/ Avery]]
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Llewellyn legalizes [[MattressTagGag cutting tags off mattresses]], leading to a lot of trouble with the U.S. government "across the border".
* DraggedIntoDrag / WholesomeCrossdresser: It is speculated that Ozy has worn dresses/skirts as much as he has [[HalfDressedCartoonAnimal pants]]. He once admitted that [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2007/07/17/ozy-and-millie-1916/ he prefers them]].
** Dress/Skirt: [[http://ozyandmillie.org/1999/03/31/ozy-and-millie-2159/ here,]] [[http://ozyandmillie.org/1999/04/02/ozy-and-millie-2161/ here,]] [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2000/01/03/ozy-and-millie-284/ here,]] [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2007/07/06/ozy-and-millie-1909/ here (seven strip arc).]]
** Pants: [[http://ozyandmillie.org/1999/12/15/ozy-and-millie-271/ here (continues in next strip),]] [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2000/01/03/ozy-and-millie-284/ here,]] [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2000/01/31/ozy-and-millie-299/ here,]] [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2000/01/31/ozy-and-millie-299/ here,]] [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2000/02/07/ozy-and-millie-304/ here.]]
** It's also noteworthy that Dana hasn't drawn "adult Ozy" wearing pants, but [[http://nostrilsketches.tumblr.com/post/28140959854/what-would-ozy-and-millie-be-like-as-college-students she has drawn him]] wearing a [[ManInAKilt kilt.]]
* EccentricMentor: Llewellyn.
* FirstKiss: [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2002/10/04/ozy-and-millie-1003/ Millie's kiss to Ozy, delivered to convince Felicia she ''didn't'' like him.]]
** Ozy's first, Millie's ''second''. Her [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2002/01/31/ozy-and-millie-843/ first]] was improvised by her school play co-star Avery. Millie was irate; her replies involved a wedgie and a punch in the face, at minimum. As Avery [[HalfDressedCartoonAnimal wasn't wearing pants]] at the time, that's quite a feat.
* {{Flanderization}}: In-universe example, where Llewellyn's horns exaggerate character traits when worn. [[TheStoic Ozy]] becomes so passive he goes a whole day without moving, [[GenkiGirl Millie]] becomes so mischievous she tries to cut off Ozy's tail, and [[SmallNameBigEgo Avery]] does nothing but gush about how awesome he is after putting them on.
* FollowTheLeader: Not a proper version of this trope, but deserves mention: Avery. Avery, Avery, Avery. So desperate is he to be a part of the "in" crowd that he will suffer literally any indignity you'd care to throw his way, provided that you tell him, or imply, or otherwise obliquely hint that it's what the cool kids are doing these days.
** Avery is almost more of a ''parody'' of this personality type most of the time; while other people buy brand-name products to try to be trendy, Avery ''imitates their ad campaigns''.
* FurryReminder: Occasionally. Both Ozy and Millie have been seen to sit down on their haunches like normal foxes and then [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2007/11/08/ozy-and-millie-1989/ this strip]]
* GenkiGirl: Millie.
* GirlsHaveCooties: The "cool people" sometimes think so.
** So does Locke in [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2002/07/25/ozy-and-millie-947/ this strip]].
* AGoodNameForARockBand: Flying Couch.
** Don't forget Pinkness Poisoning.
* HalfDressedCartoonAnimal: Ozy by far, [[http://ozyandmillie.org/1999/03/09/ozy-and-millie-2143/ lampshaded at least once]]. Speculation runs he's worn dresses more often than pants. Timulty tends to be nude save for his fur. Llewellyn and Millie get their own nude scenes as well. Note that whenever Ozy ends up bald, he does have to cover up; once this is done with pants, but usually he manages with either a long shirt or [[HandOrObjectUnderwear awkward camera angles]].
** Some fans have noted that Ozy generally seems to have a "two articles of clothing" rule, especially since some newer images of his older self show him wearing just a beret and scarf instead of his usual hat and vest.
** Also, Avery and Ms. Sorkowitz.
** Llewellyn starts out fully clothed, but eventually stops wearing pants (used for a joke once and then never commented on again).
* HappilyAdopted: Ozy quite likes having Llewellyn for a father, even if he is a dragon.
* HistoricalInJoke: Llewellyn loves these. So much.
* HollywoodNerd: Stephan.
* HurricaneOfExcuses: When Millie decides to practice running for president. She ends with "I had to wash my styrofoam!"
* IceCreamKoan: Sometimes literally. Simpson seems to be of the "All koans are ice cream koans and that's the whole point" school of thought.
* TheIngenue: Timulty.
* InexplicablyAwesome: Llewellyn. And, in fact, dragons in general.
* InterspeciesAdoption: Ozy (a fox) is the adopted son of Llewellyn (a dragon).
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: Millie certainly seems to qualify. More than once she's participated in dancing naked in the rain in front of Ozy. She also attended class picture day sans her overalls, from the bus stop all the way to school.
* InnocentProdigy: Nearly all the youngsters at some point.
* JerkJock: Jeremy.
* KarmaHoudini: Jeremy is never punished for his bullying.
** May be a case of sorta subjective TruthInTelevision. To a kid who gets routinely bullied, it seems that the bully never truly gets what he deserves for it or they would have stopped a long time ago. There is an entire story arc about how Millie gets punished for hitting Jeremy back after he hit her, simply because the teacher didn't see the first offense. Many a bullied kid can tell you similar stories.
* LeastRhymableWord: Llewellyn invents the "authentic Llewellyn-brand borange" just so that orange will have a rhyme. He's a bit unclear about what exactly it does.
** Not to mention that the very first strip has Ozymandias relieved that the kids at school can't make childish bullying rhymes about him because nothing rhymes with his name.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Ozy and Millie. Especially now that their parents are married.
* LongRunners
* TheManIsStickingItToTheMan: Parodied.
* MasterOfDelusion: Millie [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2007/12/12/ozy-and-millie-2011/ here]].
* MattressTagGag: See DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything, above.
* MeaningfulName: Dr. Wahnsinnig, the school psychiatrist. Her name means "insane" in German.
** Mildly ironic because she's the OnlySaneMan of the school faculty.
* MerlinSickness: Locke.
* NameAndName
* NiceHat: Ozy's top hat, which he got from Llewellyn.
* NoNameGiven: Ms. Mudd, until October 2008.
* NonMammalMammaries: subtle but visible on Millie's mother.
* NoodleImplements: Often combined with {{Historical In Joke}}s by Llewellyn for such masterpieces as "...that photo of me with Mrs. UsefulNotes/CalvinCoolidge and all the whipped cream."
* NoodleIncident: [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2002/05/08/ozy-and-millie-909/ Isolde accidentally sneeze-fried Ozy three times]]
* TheOneWhoWearsShoes: Isolde and Locke. Also, Ms. Mudd, in the early comics, though they were phased out with the comic's ArtEvolution.
* OnlyOneName: Llewellyn, apparently. The evidence is [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2008/10/01/ozy-and-millie-2114/ this wedding invitation]].
* OrphanedSeries: A followup series showing Ozy and Millie's later life was planned but never written.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: In this case, they're a [[PlanetOfHats Brotherhood of Hats]] whose Hat is "benignly eccentric".
* PaintingTheMedium:
** Llewellyn's [[UsefulNotes/{{Fonts}} font]] (and those of the other dragons, with the exception of the teenage Isolde). According to WordOfGod, the weird font represents the dragon accent, and Isolde lacks the accent because she has grown up in the US. Lampshaded [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2006/04/10/ozy-and-millie-1632/ here]] when a character says to Llewellyn "You also speak in a non-regulation font."
** In addition, Jeremy, the dull-witted bully, speaks in all lowercase, in a cruder handwriting style.
** Dana continues the "speaking in fonts" gag in ''Webcomic/HeavenlyNostrils''.
* ParodyRetcon: Millie attempts this [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2001/04/29/ozy-and-millie-670/ here]].
* PhraseCatcher: Anybody talking to Llewellyn for long will end up going "Wait. What?"
* PlotRelevantAgeUp: After a couple of years, Simpson aged the characters about two years, appropriately, but they then remained that age.
* RecycledInSpace: ''ComicBook/CalvinAndHobbes''... [-WITH [[FurryFandom FURRIES]]-]!
* RedOniBlueOni: Millie is red and Ozy is blue.
** But only in regards to personalities. Ozy is actually grey. Although his hatband, the only non-neutral color in his design, ''is'' blue.
* {{Retcon}}: With regards to [[spoiler: curses.]]
* RuleOfFunny: The character sheet on Jeremy: "He's a rabbit because that seemed funny."
* RunningGag: Ozy ends up bald at least once a year.
** One time [[spoiler:it happens to ''Millie'' instead.]]
* ScheduleSlip: Toward the end, the update schedule became "whenever the new strip is ready", which in practice meant roughly two to three times a week, on no particular days of the week.
* UsefulNotes/{{Seattle}}: The setting for the comic...
** WriteWhatYouKnow: ...probably because D.C. Simpson lives there.
* SelfFulfillingProphecy: Actually a [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2001/11/14/ozy-and-millie-791/ Self Fulfilling Wish]].
* SevenMinuteLull: Implied in an early strip. "Implied" because it didn't visually portray the lull.
* ShaggyDogStory: Most of Llewellyn's stories. At one point Ozy remarks, "Some kids look for Waldo. I look for Dad's point."
* ShoutOut: Along with AddedAlliterativeAppeal. Millie's middle name is "Mehitabel", as in ''Literature/ArchyAndMehitabel'' by Don Marquis.
** Also, Isolde's dragon professor is [[Literature/TheHobbit Smaug]] (from [[WesternAnimation/TheHobbit the animated version]]).
*** Ozy's great-grandfather is ''named'' Pervical Smaug Llewellyn.
** [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2002/08/14/ozy-and-millie-964/ This]] comic has Locke quoting the Music/BobDylan[=/=][[Music/TheByrds Byrds]] song "My Back Pages".
* SpeakNowOrForeverHoldYourPeace: Captain Locke shows up at this point of the wedding. After confirming that Llewellyn loves the bride, he hits the groom in the face with a pie, starting a food fight. Of course, pie fights are a traditional part of dragon weddings, so it isn't as disruptive as you'd think.
* SpitTake: [[http://ozyandmillie.org/1999/04/26/ozy-and-millie-2177/ "Lewinsky"]]
** Flame Take: [[http://ozyandmillie.org/1999/04/28/ozy-and-millie-2179/ "Teapot Dome"]]
* SpoofAesop: Several, including "Pirates are good at math."
* SpringtimeForHitler: In 2000, Llewellyn runs for president against Bush and Gore on a lark, as is clearly demonstrated by his running on the People With Nothing Better To Do ticket. He then chooses an inherently ridiculous platform to ensure that he doesn't actually get the job. Despite the fact that his running mate is a stack of pancakes and his campaign promises involve outlawing bread and selling Arizona and New Mexico to Mexico to get the money needed to buy British Columbia from Canada, he ends up inexplicably popular, and ends up neck and neck with the other two candidates thanks to some confusing ballots. He ultimately has to withdraw from the election in order to escape the risk of actually having to become president, which made him even ''more'' popular, as it proved that he was far more mature than either of the other two candidates.
* TheStoic: Ozy.
** NotSoStoic: Ozy looked like he was gonna cry after hearing about his birth mother.
* StrangeMindsThinkAlike: Oddly enough, Millie and Mr. Larnblatt. When the school is defunding music, they both do the same "Music is the nucleus of the cell! The avocado of death!" rant independently of one another.
* StuffedIntoATrashcan: Jeremy's (most likely) daily hobby involving poor Ozy. This webcomic exemplifies and often abuses this trope.
* SuchALovelyNoun: Done twice: once by Millie, once by someone from the government.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: [[http://ozyandmillie.org/2001/06/13/ozy-and-millie-2016/ Here.]] Actually plausible...
* TheTell: the tail of foxes shows their emotions. This is mentioned many times, including for [[http://russell2.math.bme.hu/~ambrus/sc/comic/millie/comic?n=19991118 Ozy]] and [[http://russell2.math.bme.hu/~ambrus/sc/comic/millie/comic?n=20050719 Ms. Mudd]]
* {{Tomboy}}: Millie defines the trope and manages to be cute at the same time.
* TotemPoleTrench: Isolde and Millie try this to get Ozy pants from some lobbyist in UsefulNotes/WashingtonDC, but the lobbyist targets see through it instantly.
* VolleyingInsults: Ozy and Millie had a friendly version of this in one strip, in one of their games: iambic pentameter slam.
* WouldHitAGirl: Jeremy, because Millie accused him of being sexist when he said he [[WouldntHitAGirl wouldn't]].
** WouldntHitAGirl: After that, Millie decided to take advantage of the fact that Jeremy (reluctantly) can't hit girls. Not that it helped her much, since Jeremy is good at LoopholeAbuse.
* WordSaladHumor: Millie's attempt at creating a catchphrase for Avery, among other things.
* WorldOfFunnyAnimals
* YouAreTheNewTrend: Happened to Millie once. Strangely, it starts out with Felicia mistaking something Millie did for "the latest thing" even though Millie has never been a setter or follower of trends.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Ms. Mudd. It's a tribute to [[WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons Marge Simpson]].
