''[[http://doobl.comicgenesis.com/d/20060623.html Doobl!]]'' is a [[DarkerAndEdgier dark]] and [[SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism cynical]] webcomic about a [[CartoonCreature little red guy named Doobl]] and his friends who are avid Christians. It starts off ideal and [[SoBadItsGood cheesy]], but quickly slides down the [[SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism scale]] after the creator's mother dies and he [[CreatorBreakdown slowly gets more and more depressed]].

As it turns out, the whole thing is a [[http://lederhosen.livejournal.com/438053.html hoax]]. The newspaper that the "suicide" was reported in (the "Dallas Times"), does not and has never existed. And the Church that the person claimed to be part of doesn't exist either. Someone was enjoying themselves setting the whole things up ...

!!This webcomic provides examples of:
* AmbiguousGender: Doobl assumes that Bugu was a girl, but it wasn't until after Humi raped him that it is revealed that Bugu was a guy.
%%* AuthorAvatar: Doobl assumes this role as Jess's CreatorBreakdown sets in.
* BigBad: [[spoiler:Doobl himself, after losing faith halfway through, corrupts Humi and goes on a killing spree against the other characters in the comic.]]
* BigBadSlippage: [[spoiler:Doobl, the protagonist, begins as a goofy guy who loves Jesus. About halfway through, he becomes disillusioned with his faith and slowly becomes more hostile to others, until by the end he has carried out a massacre against everyone.]]
* CerebusSyndrome: The comic starts out as kid friendly, though after the death of the author's mother, it becomes filled with violence and NSFW content.
* CreatorBreakdown: [[invoked]] The creator's mother dies, and the webcomic slowly becomes darker and darker.
* EasterEgg: [[spoiler:Most of the Bible verses in [[http://doobl.comicgenesis.com/comics/20061026.jpg this image]] have something to do with death.]][[labelnote:More explanation]]Judges 4:17-24 details Jael driving a tent peg through Sisera's forehead, Exodus 21:15 says that anyone who attacks their parents are to be killed, Joshua 1:18 remarks that anyone who doesn't obey the title character is to die, Jeremiah 19:6-9 prophecies the desolation of Tophet, Job 1:18-19 has the title character informed that all his children died in a freak accident, Numbers 25:1-9 details an Israelite man and a Midianite woman being murdered in order to stop God's plague on the Israelites, Proverbs 23:13-14 commands parents to punish their children to save them from death (presumably spiritual), Psalm 149:1-9 focuses on God's wrath in its second half, and Jeremiah 50:21-22 has God command his warriors to decimate Merathaim. The exceptions are Isaiah 57:3-4 (which focuses more on the hypocrisy of the sons of sinners mocking others) and Ezekiel 21:33-37 (which doesn't exist; the book stops at verse 32).[[/labelnote]]
* EverybodyDiesEnding: [[spoiler:The comic ends with Doobl having shot every single character dead, then turning the gun on himself.]]
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Doobl looks rather angry and angular. Readers might notice this and realize that, if he were actually the main character of a kid-friendly webcomic, he'd probably look a little more rounded or child-like. In fact, his attitude whenever he's focused on before Scue's hamster dies sounds more and more like he doesn't want to be in the comic.
* MadnessMantra: [[http://doobl.comicgenesis.com/oldnews.html The "news" for September 6th]] eventually devolves into repeating "I miss her".
* MisanthropeSupreme: The author eventually becomes one.
-->"If I could destroy the world in one fell swoop send all the kittens and butterflies and Jesus followers and Satanists and Islams and Germans and Republicans and Democrtats and Baptists and moonlit nights and swing voters and croissants and station wagons and smog and perfume and rainbows and love and torment I would."
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Humi's reaction upon learning he just raped a guy. Not because he is against rape, but because he thought his target was a woman and is not gay.
* PedophilePriest: It's heavily implied that Jess Hanley was one - if you read the old news, his church accuses him of having inappropriate relations with several young girls in the ministry, and though he denies it it's incredibly obvious that he was one. [[spoiler:The clincher is if you read the [[http://doobl.comicgenesis.com/images/obit1.jpg final comic/obituary]], where the cut-off text near the bottom has one of the head ministers remark that "[he'd] never seen someone who approached children in quite the same joyous [manner]", and that Jess blamed "drugs, alcohol, and [[BreadEggsMilkSquick the allure of underaged [girls]]]".]]
%%* PieEyed: Kark.
* PlotTriggeringDeath: Jess’s mother in “reality”, Scue’s hamster in-universe.
* ReptilesAreAbhorrent: Humi initially is as nice as the rest of the cast, but [[spoiler:when Doobl corrupts him into losing his faith, he quickly becomes an unrepentant rapist]].
* RhymesOnADime: Ooxy speaks in rhymes, and is seen in early strips trying to get Neek to do the same, with little success. The only time he doesn't rhyme is shortly before he's killed.
* SignificantAnagram: [[spoiler:Doobl is an anagram of Blood, which he winds up spilling in the last parts of the comic.]]
* StealthParody: Of Christian kids media, though it eventually turns dark after the death of the author's mother.
* StrawNihilist: The author degrades into this.
-->"If I could undo everything I would.\\
And I would replace it with nothing."
* SubvertedKidsShow: It starts off with lighthearted and corny jokes for kids, but quickly fills with expletives and {{NSFW}} content.
* TWordEuphemism: Used by the other characters in response to swears by Doobl and Humi.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Neek tells Doobl animals don't have souls, beginning Doobl's loss of faith.
* WhoWritesThisCrap: Humi's reaction to two passages in Literature/TheBible contradicting each other:
-->'''Doobl:''' Huh. Leviticus 19:20 says that whoring is okay, as long as the woman's a slave.\\
''[...]''\
'''Humi:''' Now wait a sec, Lev 19:27 specifically says whoring is bad.\\
'''Doobl:''' So it does.\\
'''Humi:''' Two passages, 7 chapters from each other...\\
'''Doobl:''' It gets worse, dude.\\
'''Humi:''' Who wrote this bullshit?\\
'''Doobl:''' {{God}}, apparently.
* WideEyedIdealist: Neek, who believes Doobl and Humi aren't losing their faith based on seeing them bring their bibles to the park.
* WhamLine:
** The [[http://doobl.comicgenesis.com/d/20060724.html July 24th comic]] marks the series's turn to a SubvertedKidsShow with the line, "Don't you call me a sinner, you fucking Jew!" Naturally, the other characters react with shock.
** [[http://doobl.comicgenesis.com/d/20060719.html A few strips before it]], Neek helps set the event in motion by stating that "Animals don't have souls!"
** And then [[http://doobl.comicgenesis.com/d/20060925.html one more strip]] brings out the FromBadToWorse trope to its fullest. "I wonder if she can outrun a bullet."
