''[[http://www.jadephoenix.org/comingupviolet/index.php Coming Up Violet]]'' is a FurryComic written and created by Brian Daniel and illustrated by Misty Caldwell (background art by Kevin), and the sequel to ''FurWillFly''. The comic also was a spinoff, switching the focus from Brad and his antics to Violet Oaks and her circle of friends in high school.

A more consistent art style leads this comic to be better than the original graphically. It's also way more PC. However, the artist and the writer had a falling out leading to the comic being [[OrphanedSeries canceled]] and ''taken down''. The ''canceling'' didn't last long as the artist continued the comic on May 17th, 2010 with a new writer (Bombur). Looks like things turned out okay after all.

The comic has not updated since April 2012.

!!'''''ComingUpViolet'' contains examples of:'''
* ArtEvolution
* BarefootCartoonAnimals: All the characters except Brad and [[spoiler:Dawn]].
* BatmanInMyBasement
* BewareTheNiceOnes
* BishieSparkle: [[http://jadephoenix.org/comingupviolet/2009/08/17/coming-up-violet-18/ Lampshaded.]]
* TheChessmaster: [[spoiler: Abby]]
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Brad and his daughter.
* ContemplateOurNavels: Why are we here? Brad doesn't know exactly, but he does know that he and Dawn are there for a purpose.
* CousinOliver: Dawn is the second human in the comic and a rare example of this trope done well.
* CrushBlush: While watching a movie together
* TheDarkSide
* DefrostingIceQueen: It's less of a defrosting and more of an [[spoiler:evaporation]], but you get the general idea.
* {{Diary}}: The title character keeps one of these, and it's used as the intro for the comic proper.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: The pretty boy JerkJock who spreads lies of memetic proportions about his and Violet's completely non-existent sexual escapades is on the school's lacrosse team.
* TheDogBitesBack: [[spoiler:Abby doesn't like being [[DomesticAbuse abused]].]]
* DomesticAbuse: Not the spouse-on-spouse kind, but still . . .
* EnemyMine: [[spoiler:Racquel and Wendyl]]
* EtTuBrute
* EverytownAmerica
* {{Fanservice}}: Misty once drew [[strike:three]] two of the male characters in swim trunks.
* FishOutOfWater: Dawn
* FurryConfusion: One of the filler comics showed that Melody owns two dogs.
* GenderEqualsBreed: Slightly subverted in that ''every'' cross-species example seems to take after the mother, regardless of sex
* [[spoiler:[[TheManBehindTheMan The Girl Behind The Girl]]: Abby helps keep Racquel popular, in exchange for immunity from taunting by Racquel's group.]]
* GoGoEnslavement: Page owns one of the classic examples of this trope for use in her and Brad's bedroom games.
** The roles latter get reversed between Brad and Page as to who's wearing it.
* GoodAngelBadAngel: Violet has two of these, both modeled after the classic WarnerBrothers versions of the trope.
* GoodSamaritan: Violet is quickly becoming the AnthropomorphicPersonification [no pun intended] of this trope.
* GroinAttack: See "[[http://www.webcomicsnation.com/bdaniel/violet/series.php?view=archive&chapter=29441 Wedgie Messiah]]"
* HalfHumanHybrid: Beatrice, Brad and Page's daughter, who has her mother's species and gender, and her father's . . . everything else.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Very much subverted with the school bullies.
* HighSchool
* HoistByHisOwnPetard
* InterspeciesRomance
** Bat/Rhino
** Human/Mouse (yeah, they're still around)
** Cat/Squirrel/Bat/Chinchilla LoveDodecahedron
* JerkAss
* JerkJock
* KidsAreCruel
* LawOfDisproportionateResponse
* [[LikeFatherLikeSon Like Father Like Daughter]]
* LoveDodecahedron
* MaliciousSlander
* MalignedMixedMarriage: Brad and Page, complete with the various difficulties of said trope. Most of those difficulties usually turn out to be trying to hide Brad's real identity (he's an alien from a MirrorUniverse), while also resulting in a lot of AngstWhatAngst at the same time due to Brad's {{Cloudcuckoolander}} nature.
* MediumAwareness: In strip 231, posted on 8/30/2010, Brad contemplates why he and Dawn were sent to the comic's universe. In [[http://anivasion.deviantart.com/#/d2xm2ay the full version posted on Misty's DA profile]] he concludes that not only is there a higher power guiding their lives but that there's a good chance that [[RealLife the world]] is just a template with certain differences being like toys in a game of make believe, thus hanging a colossal lampshade on the entire writing process and fiction in general in the process.
* NaiveEverygirl: [[spoiler:Oh so very much subverted ''and'' played straight with Abby.]]
* NeatFreak: Melody, who prefers to keep everything organized.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Skylar was perfectly happy pseudo-dating Melody, then his best friend Wendyl reminded him that he had originally started hanging out with her to get to her friend Violet.
* NoBiochemicalBarriers: Brad and Page's daughter
* OnlyOneName: Besides Brad's family there's also the background artist for the comic, Kevin.
* OutGambitted
* ParentalSubstitute
* [[PromotedFanboy Promoted Fangirl]]: Misty Caldwell started out as a fan of the [[FurWillFly original comic]] and is the illustrator; [[OneOfUs she still claims to be a fan and dislikes spoilers]].
* ScheduleSlip: Because of the details of Misty's work the comic usually doesn't get the chance to update.
* ShoutOut: The 2009 Halloween filler featured Melody and Violet as characters from VideoGame/TeamFortress2 [the Sniper and Scout respectively], which makes sense considering that [[http://anivasion.deviantart.com/journal/28030719/ Misty is a fan]].
* SpinOff: Of FurWillFly.
* {{Squee}}
* StayingWithFriends
* StrawFeminist: Subverted: Violet does not want to be the Wedgie Messiah.
* StudioAudience: [[http://jadephoenix.org/comingupviolet/2009/10/01/coming-up-violet-60/ Played for laughs]]. [[LaughTrack Literally!]]
* SuperOCD: Melody; it certainly doesn't help that she's a chinchilla.
* ThirdPersonPerson
* TriangRelations
* {{Uncanceled}}: It's aliiive!
* WellDoneSonGuy: Subverted: Skylar's step-dad really tries to be a good parent.
