''The New Adventures of Captain S'' is a WebVideo series debuting in 2007.

Sega Genesis nerd Chad Belmont buys a strange game cartridge and when he plugs it in, finds himself sucked into the realm where games are real. As the Video Defender he's called upon to save the worlds of different games and in the process often learns a lesson that helps him with his problems in the real world. After a few episodes his friends Lunk and Becky learn Chad's secret and support him on their side of the screen.

The first season consisted of ten episodes each running about 10-15 minutes. In 2009 the staff announced that due to unspecified production difficulties, a second season was being called off. Later, it was revealed that [=ScrewAttack=] required them to wrap up the airing - not just the shooting - of the episodes by August, so that a [=DVD=] could be released in November. At the end of May, shooting had not begun yet, so the team thought that meeting the deadline was completely impossible.

* AffectionateParody: Including but not limited to WesternAnimation/CaptainNTheGameMaster, teen sitcoms, and the UsefulNotes/ConsoleWars of the early 90's.
** The BizarroEpisode "Radical Sega Games" was an AffectionateParody of ''WebVideo/AwesomeVideoGames''.
* AesopAmnesia: The protagonist of course [[{{Deconstruction}} pays dearly for that]].
* AmbidextrousSprite: Parodied in the ''MortalKombat''-inspired final battle of the show where the S on Chad's jacket and NES's Power Glove change sides whenever they turn around.
* AndKnowingIsHalfTheBattle: Parodied in ''When Push Comes to Shove-It'' where Chad learns not to be afraid of responsibility and hard work. Right after he makes up his mind to go back to his job with heartfelt music playing in the background, his boss calls and tells him he's fired for leaving early.
* {{Angrish}}: In ''All's Fair in Love and Sega'', after Chad skipped a study date with Becky (the nerdy chick) to go on one with Stacey (the hot chick), and Becky asks him out on Valentine's Day, Chad tells Becky that he wants to ask Stacey out. Becky's reaction: "You're just disg... too, and then you... I can't... And wh... And you'd j... UWAAAH!!!!"
* BigBad: The Game Genie.
* BrokenAesop: Episode 7, ''For the Kid in S All'', ends with the aesop that if you understand your mistakes, you commit yourself and strive as much as you can, you can overcome any difficulty. The premise of next episode, ''Captain S'll Make Ya Clap, Clap'' is that all efforts Chad made in that direction were worthless, and that to ''actually'' achieve anything he needed a supernatural means of health regeneration, activated by people clapping.
* ClapYourHandsIfYouBelieve: Played as straight as straight can be.
** The biggest problem viewers tend to have with the show.
* {{Catchphrase}}: "Everything gets the kick" and "It'll have to do."
** Becky constantly [[UnusualEuphemism uses the titles of old video games as euphemisms]]. "Where the Bonk's Revenge are you, Chad Belmont?"
** The Big Blue Head has "[[VideoGame/ZeroWing FOR GREAT JUSTICE]]!!!".
* ChristmasSpecial: Featuring a FakeCrossover with WebVideo/TheAngryVideoGameNerd.
* TheDragon: NES.
* FrothyMugsOfWater: Parodied when Chad gets wasted on milk shakes after losing a fight to NES.
* GoshDangItToHeck: AVGN's trademark potty mouth is softened in his guest appearance, and when he does curse he's either [[CurseCutShort cut off]] or bleeped.
---> "What a buttload of crud."
* GretzkyHasTheBall: According to the commentary of one of the actresses, Lunk's advice to Chad during soccer try-outs ("Keep the ball close, don't be afraid to get physical, and don't overpower your shot") is the advice of someone who's never played soccer.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:NES]].
* HeroicBSOD: See FrothyMugsOfWater above. When Captain S loses a fight, he [[TenMinuteRetirement quits]].
* IAmNotLeftHanded: In the final showdown between Captain S and the Game Genie, Captain S seems to have the Genie's number before the Genie proclaimed "We're not *snort* left-handed." and proceeded to transform into his true form
* ItWillNeverCatchOn:
--> '''AVGN''': Okay, but you're going to be end up like Aeris from ''Final Fantasy VII''.
--> '''Chad''': Ha! It's called ''Final Fantasy''! Why would they make a sequel? Dimwit.
* MaltShop: Chad's favorite hangout. "Let's get shakes!"
* MissionControl: The Big Blue Head.
* MoralDissonance: In the second episode, Chad defeats the villain in a soccer game by injuring so many opposing players with cheap shots that they're forced to forfeit. Opponents who seemed to be playing fairly, just better than Chad and his team of clones. The reasoning seems to be he stinks at sports, but he's great at hurting digital people.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: After Game Genie "upgrades" NES with the Virtual Boy, he becomes a much more dangerous opponent for Chad.
* RealityEnsues: Chad shakes his fist in pain after punching someone in the real world.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: [[spoiler:NES.]]
* {{Retraux}}
* RivalTurnedEvil: NES and Chad were childhood friends who were torn apart by the console wars. Without Chad's friendship, NES eventually discovered and was influenced by the Game Genie.
* RoyalWe: Game Genie speak entirely in royal plural, referring to himself as "we" and "us."
* SequelHook: The appearance of [[spoiler:Super NES]] at the end.
* ShoutOut: The Big Blue Head is a reference to Zordon, the mentor of the [[MightyMorphinPowerRangers Power Rangers]]. [=NES=] acts exactly like Malcolm does in ''Series/SuperhumanSamuraiSyberSquad''. In "Captain S'll Make Ya Clap Clap", the Game Genie even calls humans "meat-things" like Kilokahn does in ''Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad''.
* TrainingMontage: Complete with Chad having to run in a [[VideoGame/PunchOut pink jogging suit]].
* ZombieApocalypse: ''[[VideoGame/ZombiesAteMyNeighbors Zombies Ate My Homeroom]]''.

!!The [[WhatCouldHaveBeen never released]] [[http://www.pbc-productions.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?p=16784&highlight=#16784 second season]] would have featured examples of:
* AllYourPowersCombined: During the course of the season, at least two characters would have received "cheat devices" that increase their powers. The more they used them, the more they would have provided energy to them (while also falling victim to TheCorruption), until the cheat devices would have merged together and recreated the Game Genie.
* BigDamnHeroes: Or in this case, Big Damn {{Antihero}}. Nigel would have reappeared just in time to save Chad and Adam from Tobias, showing off [[LookWhatICanDoNow his new powers]].
* DarkerAndEdgier: The general tone of the season would have been this, compared to the first season.
* HeelFaceTurn: Would have happened to Adam Jaguar (see TheRival below), after the [[BigBad Game Genie]] is resurrected.
* HeroicSacrifice: Tobias (see WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity below) would have ended this way, after discovering that his actions had allowed the Game Genie to resurrect. He would have been killed by the Game Genie, who was instead trying to kill Chad, Adam and Nigel.
* IChooseToStay: After the final battle, Nigel would have chosen to stay in Videoland.
* NotQuiteDead: Nigel, who had apparently made a HeroicSacrifice in season 1, would have been revealed to be alive and well, working for the Third Party in Videoland.
* TheCorruption: Would have happened (only to a certain extent) to Chad, after he starts using a cheat device that increases his powers. It would have had a much worse effect on Tobias, for the same reason.
* TheRival: A new character named Adam Jaguar, a {{Jerkass}} who knows that Chad is Captain S, can enter Videoland and is intended to prove his superiority (just like Atari intended to prove that the Jaguar was superior to the Genesis).
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: It would have happened to Tobias, a genius programmer who discovers Videoland. At first, he would have tried to become an OlderSidekick to Captain S, only to be turned away and laughed at. His subsequent attempt to reveal the existence of Videoland to his colleagues and boss would have failed too, and he would have been fired. He would have then received a cheat device (similar to the one that started TheCorruption on Chad) and started using it for himself. At first, he would have used its powers to destroy his enemies, then he would have started to reshape Videoland to his will and absorb video game bosses to increase his power even more. He would have tried to kill Chad and Adam, but he would have been temporarily stopped by Nigel. He would have then tried to take on him too, but he would have regained his sanity after his actions resurrected the Game Genie. At that point, he would have chosen to perform a HeroicSacrifice.
