[[caption-width-right:350:My name is Jirard "Dragonrider" Khalil, and I am... ''The Completionist''.]]

'''The Completionist''' is part of the Website/ThatOneVideoGamer community.

Jirard "Dragonrider" Khalil is [[https://www.youtube.com/user/ThatOneVideoGamer The Completionist]], an internet reviewer who is partnered with Creator/{{Polaris}}. His show is the flagship show for his own community, That One Video Gamer. Every week, he [[HundredPercentCompletion completes a game 100%]] and then reviews it, detailing the quality of the game overall, and whether or not the payoff is worth the hours spent on completing it. Jirard is usually joined by his producer and partner in crime, Greg Wilmot, The Mediocre-ist, [[PluckyComicRelief who provides much of the comic relief]] and later with Alex Faciane of "The Dex". Refreshingly, Jirard uses very little (if any) profanity[[labelnote:*]]Except the [[FirstInstallmentWeirdness first episode]], which uses quite a lot[[/labelnote]] in his reviews, making them reasonably family friendly, as well as informative and entertaining. As the series continues, the reviews become much more plot-focussed, with {{Wham Episode}}s and {{Cliffhanger}}s galore.

His reviews are divided into the following segments: Story[[labelnote:*]]An introduction to the game's plot and characters[[/labelnote]], Presentation[[labelnote:*]]A look at the game's graphics and music[[/labelnote]], Gameplay[[labelnote:*]]A look at the game's gameplay and controls[[/labelnote]], Final Level[[labelnote:*]]Detailing the [[TheVeryDefinitelyFinalDungeon final level]] and [[FinalBoss boss]] in a spoiler-heavy but skippable section[[/labelnote]], The Struggle[[labelnote:*]]A look at how hard the process of completing the game is, added in Season 2[[/labelnote]] and the Completion Bonus[[labelnote:*]]A look at the bonus received for achieving [[OneHundredPercentCompletion 100% Completion]], anything from a [[InfinityPlusOneSword secret weapon]], to a [[NewGamePlus new game mode]][[/labelnote]], before Jirard gives his final "Completionist Rating"[[labelnote:*]]On a rating scale as follows:"Complete It", "Finish It", "Play It", "Look At It", [[KillItWithFire "Burn It"]][[/labelnote]].

All three seasons (so far) of the show can be watched from start to finish [[https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL37DA718ACF6B1323 here]].

In November of 2012, Jirard and Alex started a spin-off show named WebVideo/SuperBeardBros, which was later rebranded "Super Beard Bros. Deluxe" when Greg joined the two. The show was called a "journalistic approach to [[LetsPlay Let's Plays]]". In 2013, the show was cancelled, and its run was ended in early 2014, after month of delayed episodes. However, the show was rebooted entirely in April of 2014. The show now consists of subseries where they look at certain aspects of gaming, along with the regular Super Beard Bros. [[LetsPlay Let's Plays]]. For more information, see WebVideo/SuperBeardBros.

Since then, the brand name "That One Video Gamer", while originally only used for those two shows, has become [[Website/ThatOneVideoGamer a collection of web series]], including "Super Bunny Hop", "Satchbag's Goods", "The Dex", "The TOVG Podcast" and even a Completionist-themed comic. The official site, which serves as a hub of sorts for all TOVG series can be found [[http://www.thatonevideogamer.com/ here]].

!!This show provides examples of:
[[folder:Tropes A-M]]
* AccidentalMisnaming:
** In "Luigi's Mansion":
--> '''Greg''': [[RunningGag But Beardman!]] And [[WebVideo/PeanutButterGamer Peanut Butter Sandwich]]!
** In the ''VideoGame/GunstarHeroes'' review, Greg kept calling [[LetsPlay/ProtonJon Jon]] "Bruce Willis." When they team up for TheRunawayGuys MarioKartDoubleDash tournament, they adopt the team name "Beard Willis".
* AscendedFanon: In an AffectionateParody [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-U2uwXLoyGI made by SmashMasterShow]], said creator uses "Filay it" as a PortManteau of "Finish it" and "Play it". In the official review of ZeldaIITheAdventureOfLink, he rates the game "Filay it".
* AchievementsInIgnorance: After seeing Cranky claim he beat ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry'' in under an hour with one life, Jirard proceeds to do just that, thinking it's a real challenge.
* ADayInTheLimelight: All of the episodes involving The Mediocre-ist ("TMNT", "Pokemon Snap", "Red Dead Redemption") are this for Greg, usually serving to showcase how bad he is at gaming, [[spoiler:except "Red Dead Redemption", in which he fully completed the game 100%, leading to Jirard's HeroicBSOD]] in the Season 1 finale.
* AllMenArePerverts: Greg falls into this more often than Jirard. Though Jirard is far from immune.
-->'''Jirard:''' ... Can I touch your boobs?
* AudienceParticipation: In his ''Videogame/BubbleBobble'' episode, various clips are shown of people doing something to the Bubble Booble tune.
* {{Badass}}: [[HomestarRunner Trogdr]], Jirard's dragon-chao he raised in SonicAdventure2.
* BearsAreBadNews: Averted. Greg spurting out "BEARS!" somehow never gets old.
* BeethovenWasAnAlienSpy: According to "Super Mario Brothers 3", Creator/WilliamShakespeare is actually [[spoiler:Greg]].
* BigNo: Greg lets one out in Megaman X3 when he realises that [[spoiler:Jirard is trapped in his own soul, damned to eternally playing [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006 Sonic '06]].]]
* BookEnds: The first and last episode of Season 1 begin with the same monologue, [[spoiler:because Jirard thinks it's the first episode of the show again.]]
* BrickJoke: ''Many''.
** In "Pokemon", Jirard and Alex both wear shirts with colours matching the games they are playing (Red and Yellow respectively). Then Greg walks in, wearing a black shirt despite the fact that he is playing Blue Edition. Jirard and Alex get extremely angry at him, since Alex had to buy a yellow shirt specifically for the occasion. At the end of the episode, [[spoiler:Greg can briefly be seen wearing the same shirt with a piece of paper reading "Blue Shirt" taped onto it.]]
** In the ALinkToThePast review, Jirard was unable to pronounce '''Agahnim''', so Greg suggested to call him [[Disney/{{Aladdin}} Agrabah.]] Fast forward to Jirard's review of [[VideoGame/AladdinCapcom Aladdin's SNES game]], and Jirard desides to call the city of '''Agrabah''' "Agahnim". It returns once more in the review of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkBetweenWorlds'', with Agahnim referred to offhand, as Agrabah.
** During the ''Videogame/CrashBandicoot2CortexStrikesBack'' episode, after Jirard uses an "Epic Manoeuvre" joke, the guys from ''Continue?'' appear on screen in a Codec Call, á la ''Franchise/MetalGear''. They mention how Jirard should make an episode on ''Series/BreakingBad''. Skip ahead to episode 48, and...
** In the ''[[VideoGame/SONICTHEHEDGEHOG2006 Sonic The Hedgehog 2006]]'' 100th episode special, the side story involving the office trying to free Jirard from the game case brings them to contact the ''Continue?'' crew; they decide to not help, claiming Jirard owes Josh twenty dollars. Fast-forward to when [[spoiler:Greg tries to convince Jirard to not complete the game's DLC]]...
--> '''Greg''': You don't have to do this! You don't owe this game anything! You don't own ANYONE anything, except for ME a party hat... and Josh twenty bucks.
* BuxomIsBetter: Catherine.
* CatchPhrase: Quite a few, mostly provided by Greg.
* CallBack:
** In "Super Mario Sunshine", Jirard and Greg notice that Mario looks like he's humping Yoshi. Greg asks why [[VideoGame/LuigisMansion the]] [[VideoGame/PokemonSnap last]] [[VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine three]] {{Nintendo}} games they reviewed have featured the main character humping things.
** In "Megaman X4", Jirard refers to "Spark Mandrel Syndrome", and does a skit similar to the one in "Megaman X".
** In "Gunstar Heroes", Greg brings up the Missiles For Kids campaign from "Diddy Kong Racing".
*** In the same episode, Greg's singing of ''"All by myself!"'' is a CallBack to "Luigi's Mansion".
** In the ''JumpingFlash'' review, Greg returns to find that [[spoiler: Jirard is still on meth from the ''Series/BreakingBad'' episode, having 'completed' {{Netflix}} again.]]
* CanadaEh: In the episodes guest starring ProtonJon, jokes of this nature are usually averted in favor of Greg thinking that Jon is BruceWillis. A few sneak through in the ''GunstarHeroes'' review, though, [[NeverLiveItDown which leads to Jon]] [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&list=FLk1Fo1TfTOFWRhffJGvDSUg&v=--gP6bCgCs8&t=1022 ranting about how he is always the butt of these jokes whenever he collaborates with someone American.]]
* {{Cliffhanger}}:
** "Sonic 3 and Knuckles": Jirard is telling viewers to send in suggestions for games as usual, since [[TemptingFate it's not like some developer is going to tell him to to play their game...]] [[spoiler: Then he gets a tweet from Ed [=McMillen=], who tells him that he'll never beat ''VideoGame/SuperMeatBoy'' - a game which Jirard had never played prior to the video...]]
** "Red Dead Redemption": [[spoiler:Jirard goes insane when Greg actually manages to complete VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption, calling himself "The Comportionist".]]
** "Super Mario 64": [[spoiler:A mysterious figure appears behind Jirard and backstabs him, trapping him inside DarkSouls.]]
** "Spyro The Dragon": Jirard storms off, fed up of Greg making fun of the wings he's wearing due to a lost bet. [[spoiler: Then the Xbox 360 that trapped Jirard in DarkSouls appears behind Greg and traps him inside ConkersBadFurDay.]]
* CloudCuckooLander: Greg. [[CrazyAwesome That's why we love him]]
** Jirard has his moments.
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: Blind reviews are indicated by the thumbnail of his videos being purple, whereas games he has played in the past already are blue. Yellow indicates that the review is a special of some kind (so far only used for Halloween specials BanjoKazooie and DeadSpace) and turquoise means the game is part of a collection pack.
* CornerOfWoe: The ''VideoGame/AladdinCapcom'' episode features this. Jirard, Greg and [[WebVideo/PressHeartToContinue Dodger]] all end up walking down a hall in despair multiple times during the review.
* CourtroomAntics: Quite frequently in the "Defend it!" videos, in which Jirard defends a game which received a large InternetBackdraft.
* DancePartyEnding: A few times, such as in the ''VideoGame/AladdinCapcom'' episode, with Greg singing [[CrowningMusicOfAwesome "Never Had A Friend Like]] [[LastSecondWordSwap Greg"]].
* DisneyDeath: [[spoiler:Jirard's "death"]] in "Super Meat Boy".
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: The first episode is practically a ClusterFBomb compared to later episodes.
* GrandFinale: It's confirmed that when Jirard is eventually finished with the show, the final episode will be his favourite game of all time: ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry2DiddysKongQuest''. In a recent Top 10, he also indicated that his second-to-last episode would be "VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI''.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: In the "Red Dead Redemption" review, Greg offhandedly remarks, [[spoiler:"Don't be so sure I couldn't complete this game!"]] Guess what happens at the end of the episode.
* GuestStarPartyMember: In a few episodes, notably WebVideo/PeanutButterGamer for the ''VideoGame/LuigisMansion'' episode, LetsPlay/ProtonJon for the ''VideoGame/GunstarHeroes'' (and Jirard in turn guest stars in his LetsPlay of the game) and ''[[{{Contra}} Contra 3]]'' episodes, Dodger of ''WebVideo/PressHeartToContinue'' for the ''VideoGame/AladdinCapcom'', and Mat-Pat from ''Game Theory'' for the ''VideoGame/MetroidPrime'' review.
** Collaboration Month, kicking off Season 3, was of course built on this trope, featuring Pat The NES Punk, Caddicarus, ProJared and Jesse Cox for individual reviews.
* HesBack: After the HeroicBSOD below.
* HeroicBSOD: In "Megaman X4", the Season 1 finale, [[spoiler: Greg 100%ing ''VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption'' and doing a competent review breaks Jirard. It takes Greg sucking at ''VideoGame/MegaManX4'' to bring him out of it.]]
** In his 100,000-subscriber special, [[spoiler: Jirard gets invaded and stabbed in the back before he can finish his review of ''VideoGame/SuperMario64'' and ends up inside of ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'', a game that never ends]]. In the next episode, after [[spoiler: Greg stabs Jirard's Xbox]], he comes back to reality to [[spoiler: give his final rating for Super Mario 64]].
* HeroicRROD: Parodied in the ''VideoGame/SuperMeatBoy'' episode. [[spoiler: Jirard beats the game, and collapses, presumably dead. Greg prepares to take over the show and do the outro... When Jirard wakes up, having just taken a nap. Greg carries on regardless.]]
* HundredPercentCompletion: The entire point of the show.
* IHaveManyNames: Jirard, Dragonrider, The Completionist, Beardman, King Baldman, and of course, [[AlterEgoActing Shirraco the Laser Clown]].
* ImportantHaircut: In the ''VideoGame/GodOfWar'' episode, Jirard discovers and opens Pandora's Box. Inside is an enchanted razor which shaves his beard into a goatee resembling Kratos'. In addition, when competing in the King of the Web campaign, Jirard shaved his head, causing Greg to refer to him as "King Baldman" for the rest of the month.
* KillItWithFire: The final fate of [[spoiler: ''[[Advertising/TheBurgerKing Sneak King]]'']], [[spoiler: ''VideoGame/HeartOfDarkness'']] and [[spoiler:''VideoGame/MegamanX3'', thanks to Jirard's DemonicPossession]].
* LaughingMad: Jirard is reduced to this state by the end of the ''[[Advertising/TheBurgerKing Sneak King]]'' review.
* LuckBasedMission: Gives a good rant on his ''[[Advertising/TheBurgerKing Sneak King]]'' review.
* MagnumOpus: In the 2014 [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxgMud6RxjQ NormalBoots Panel]] at SGC, Greg states that his favourite episode is "Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow", and Jirard states that his is "Dark Souls".
* MillionToOneChance: The LuckBasedMission in ''[[Advertising/TheBurgerKing Sneak King]]''. Jirard's odds of success? [[spoiler: 0.000045673(repeating)]]. And he still managed it.
* MushroomSamba: Briefly in the YoshisIsland episode.
* MythologyGag: In "Megaman X4", Jirard repeats many of the lines from the "Megaman X" review and many others [[spoiler:due to his insanity.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes N-Z]]
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Jirard, his dog and Greg deliver one to ''[[Advertising/TheBurgerKing Sneak King]]'' before burning it. It involved The People's Elbow.
* TheOtherDarrin: In the evil Xbox 360's first appearance, it's voiced by [[PressHeartToContinue Dodger]], but Lucahjin takes over for its return.
* OverlyLongGag: Many, thanks to Greg:
** Basically all of the "But Beardman!" sections, but most notably in "Sonic 3 and Knuckles".
--> '''Greg''': But Beardman! {{SEGA}} stopped making consoles since the Dreamcast. Why are they still a company? Haven't they made like 150 [[Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog Sonic games]]? Why is he blue? Is Tails into dudes? What's an echidna? How old is Sonic? Why is Doctor Robotnik weird? ''What the hell is Team Chaotix?'' What if Sonic and [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Mario]] fought? [[Franchise/SuperSmashBrothers Smash Brothers]]! I didn't know Sonic liked sports-- [[VideoGame/MarioAndSonicAtTheOlympicGames Mario vs Sonic at the Olympics]]. [[VideoGame/SonicUnleashed Sonic is a werewolf?]] [[VideoGame/SonicStorybookSeries Why is Sonic in Agrabah?]] [[VideoGame/SonicColors Aliens!]] [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure BIG THE CAT!]]
** In "Sonic Adventure":
--> '''Greg''': But this is America! Home of baseball! Apple pies! Hamburgers! Shoes! ...Backwards hats! Candy necklaces! Post-it notes! Tissue paper! Twist-ties! ...Metronomes! ..Ch--... Cheese! ...And... Ovens! AMERICA!
* OnceAnEpisode: When introducing the game of the week, Greg will say "BUT BEARDMAN!" before asking some silly (but sometimes interesting) questions. He's supposedly predicting what the video's comments section will be saying. Lampshaded in the ''Series/BreakingBad'' episode, which Greg is absent for due to his wedding. Jirard takes this role in the Mediocre-ist episodes by saying to Greg, "But Clean-Shavedman!"
** At the end of the episode, Jirard will ask viewers to "[=FaceTwitTambleGram=]" him before saying "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to do X".
* PerverseSexualLust: Jirard and Greg both have it for Catherine with a C in the ''VideoGame/{{Catherine}}'' review.
** Comes to a head in the ''VideoGame/YoshisIsland'' review, where Jirard falls into a depression over her, binging on Chex Mix.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Jirard's dog which occasionally makes an appearance.
* RunningGag: Oh so many. A few memorable examples include...
** BUT BEARDMAN![[labelnote:''Appearances'']]''[[OnceAnEpisode Every single episode]]''. Temporarily replaced with "But [[spoiler:King Baldman]]!" for the first four episodes of Season 2.[[/labelnote]]
** It's [[VideoGame/SecretOfMana Neeko]]! The Price-Gouging Cat![[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"The Secret of Mana", "Megaman Legends", "Luigi's Mansion", "Diddy Kong Racing", "God of War"[[/labelnote]]

** [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure BIG THE CAT]]!, whose existence Jirard desperately tries to gloss over in "Sonic Adventure".[[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Sonic 3 and Knuckles", "Sonic Adventure", "Super Mario Brothers 3", "Sonic Adventure 2"[[/labelnote]]
** [[LargeHamAnnouncer COMMENCE RANT!]][[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Imagine: Wedding Designers", "Kingdom Hearts 2", "Actraiser", Sneak King", "Heart of Darkness", "Dead Rising", "Assassin's Creed", "Sonic Adventure"[[/labelnote]]

** Clean your room, America.[[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Super Mario Sunshine", "Diddy Kong Racing"[[/labelnote]]
** Getting sandwiches has popped each episode since Greg's return in the ''JumpingFlash'' review.[[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Jumping Flash", "Super Mario Brothers 3"[[/labelnote]]
** Time Out (with Greg)![[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Aladdin", "Kingdom Hearts II"[[/labelnote]]
** "So Jirard, you ever going to do the Mario All-Stars pack?"[[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Super Mario Brothers 3", "Yoshi's Island", "Actraiser", "The Legend of Zelda"[[/labelnote]]
** [[VideoGame/KinectSports KINECT SPORTS 2]]! YOUR BODY IS THE CONTROLLER!
* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler: Jirard]], during the ''X4'' review, as a direct consequence of [[spoiler: Greg managing to beat RedDeadRedemption]] in the previous episode.
** Jirard goes through this [[spoiler:again]] during "Breaking Bad" when Greg leaves and Jirard is led to believe that all of Netflix is a game, and [[spoiler:successfully]] tries to complete it.
* TheStinger: Occasionally pops up to introduce next week's game. A notable example at the end of the ''[[VideoGame/SonicAdventure2 Sonic Adventure 2 Battle]]'' episode, with Jirard tossing and turning in bed, agonizing over which game to do next for Sequels Month... Then Greg appears behind him, and simply says... [[spoiler: [[CatchPhrase "BEARS!"]], indicating that they've chosen ''[[VideoGame/BanjoKazooie Banjo Tooie]]''.]]
* TheCakeIsALie: It appears as a RunningGag for (fittingly) the review of the [[{{VideoGame/Portal}} Trope Namer]].
* WhamLine:
** From "Red Dead Redemption", spurring [[spoiler:Jirard's SanitySlippage]]:
--> '''Jirard''': Wait... [[spoiler:''you completed a game''?! But you're the Mediocre-ist... That means if you're the Mediocre-ist, what does that make me?]]\\

** From Megaman X3, prompting [[spoiler:Jirard's FaceHeelTurn]]:
--> '''Jirard''': This game should [[spoiler:''BURN IN HELL''.]]
* WhamEpisode: Any of the reviews that are focussed on plot become these compared to the [[BreatherEpisode normal reviews]].
** "Super Meat Boy": Jirard [[spoiler:completes the game at long last, but not without ''dying'' in the process. Greg valiantly takes over the show, declaring himself the Mediocre-ist. Luckily it turns out that [[DisneyDeath Jirard had just passed out]], but this episode still marked the birth of the Mediocre-ist.]]
** "Red Dead Redemption": Greg [[spoiler:actually completes VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption, and Jirard goes [[SanitySlippage completely insane]] as a result, abandoning his "Completionist" persona completely.]]
** "Megaman X4": [[spoiler:As Jirard's review becomes [[SanitySlippage less and less coherent]], he eventually goes into [[HeroicBSOD "Beard Hibernation Mode"]], rendering him completely frozen and unresponsive. However, when Greg attempts (and fails) the first level of Megaman X4, Jirard breaks out of his comatose state and, after regrowing his beard, gets ready for a second season, [[HesBack becoming The Completionist once more]].]]
