''Sonic'' is an 18-minute long FanFilm based on the ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'' franchise. It was written and directed by Eddie Lebron, and released by Blue Core Studios, the same company that released the fanmade ''Film/MegaMan'' film. The film was developed to see how Sonic would look in a live action environment, and faced the high expectations of the Sonic fanbase.

On the peaceful planet of Mobius, the evil [[EmperorScientist Dr. Robotnik]], formerly Julian Kintobor, declares war on the world. He begins his path of destruction by [[FinalSolution wiping out all intelligent animals on the remote South Island]]. Three months on, Dr. Robotnik's power has spread and now occupies Station Square, [[CannedOrdersOverLoudspeaker often taking over the city's television networks to spread his propaganda]]. He faces opposition from G.U.N. who are often overwhelmed by his robotic Badniks. But, a surviving Mobian known as the "Blue Blur" launches a series of attacks on Dr. Robotnik's forces and is held a hero by the media. Dr. Robotnik and a group of G.U.N. soldiers discover the identity of the freedom fighter - namely a wisecracking, laidback, blue hedgehog named Sonic who can run at supersonic speeds.

The film gained a lot of attention, particularly when it was announced that Jaleel White was reprising his role as Sonic after voicing the character in ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog'', ''WesternAnimation/SonicSatAM'' and ''WesternAnimation/SonicUnderground''.

It was originally first released at [=MAGFest=] 2013. On January 10, 2013, it was [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtCtQpclpY8 uploaded]] to Website/YouTube by the filmmaker.

!!This film contains examples of:

* [[spoiler:AndTheAdventureContinues]]: [[spoiler:The film ends with Robotnik needing 4 more Chaos Emeralds for some EvilPlan, Sonic finding [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog Green Hill Zone]] and Knuckles appearing.]]
* AnotherDimension: The Chaos Emeralds emerge from a Warp Ring at the beginning of the film.
* ArtisticLicenseGunSafety: One of the G.U.N. soldiers just ''swings an automatic rifle around by the handle''.
* BadassArmy: G.U.N. shows signs of this considering they willingly venture into the wilderness to blow up one of the Egg Carrier fleets.
* BaldOfEvil: Dr. Robotnik is both bald and the villain.
* BigBad: Dr. Robotnik is of the "sit in his lair a lot" variety, and all the other bad guys report directly to him.
* TheCameo:
** Creator/JamesRolfe, [[Website/ScrewAttack Craig "Stuttering Craig" Skitimas]], Creator/DougWalker and [[Music/BrentalFloss Brent Black]]
** In terms of a character cameo, [[spoiler:Knuckles]] appears as well.
* CannedOrdersOverLoudspeaker: Dr. Robotnik and his followers do this on Station Square's television network.
* ConspicuousCG: Between the Egg Carriers, the robots and Sonic himself. This movie has plenty of this to spare.
* CoolShip: The Egg Carrier fleet and G.U.N.'s huge battleship.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Much like the ''Mega Man'' fan film before it, ''Sonic'' puts a significantly darker spin on the normally lighthearted franchise. Dr. Robotnik is a foul, sinister antagonist (going so far as to even [[ColdBloodedTorture electrocute a captured G.U.N. soldier]] and attempt to execute another in cold blood), and some elements of racial inequality have been added in as well (represented by a G.U.N. soldier despising Sonic as a "South Islander"). Robotnik also seems to be on a much more active head-hunt in regards to Sonic, explicitly ordering his robots to "find it and kill it".
* DullSurprise: The guy being interrogated by Robotnik.
* EmergencyPresidentialAddress: President Bushnell addresses the United Federation regarding Dr. Robotik's attacks.
* EmperorScientist / EvilOverlord: Dr. Robotnik, who is seen in his high-tech base all the time.
* {{Expy}}: Some believe that the four G.U.N. soldiers - Anthony, Nova, Jade and Gears - that speak to Sonic are meant to be human counterparts to Antoine, Sally, Bunnie and Rotor from [[SonicSaTAM SatAM]].
* ExtyYearsFromNow: The date is January 9, 4013 - exactly 2000 years after the film's release date.
* FanFilm: Done by Eddie Lebron and Blue Core Studios.
* {{Fanservice}}: Interesting how Creator/DougWalker, someone very known for pandering to his female audience, is put in a soldier's uniform, dirtied up, captured and manhandled by a robot, and spends most of his cameo either on the ground or kneeling with a gun to his head.
** His Sonic [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpvRaOnslTk costume]] showed more of his chest and stomach than it did of his face.
* FantasticRacism: Dr. Robotnik openly hates Mobians. And one of the G.U.N. soldiers openly expresses prejudice against "[[InsistentTerminology South Islanders]]".
* FinalSolution: Occurs when Dr. Robotnik decides to wipe out all Mobians on South Island.
* TheHero: Sonic is pretty much a classic hero.
* KillerRobot: Dr. Robotnik's Badniks and E-100 robots are seen threatening and/or attempting to shoot and kill people.
* [[spoiler:LastOfHisKind]]: Sonic becomes this early on...
** [[spoiler:ThereIsAnother]]: ...until the end.
* MythologyGag:
** The basis of the plot is taken from ''WesternAnimation/SonicSatAM'' including Dr. Robotnik's original name Julian Kintobor.
** Sonic's catch phrases like "Way past cool", and the concept of Roboticisation are taken from the cartoon too.
** Mobius, [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog South Island]] and [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure Station Square]] are main settings in the film.
** The Chaos Emeralds emerge from a [[VideoGame/Sonic3AndKnuckles Warp Ring]].
** Dr. Robotnik's fleet consists of a dozen or so Egg Carriers. The fleet flies over Station Square in a scene directly inspired from a similar one in ''Sonic Adventure''.
** Sonic mocks Robotnik by calling him "Eggman"
** The E-100 robots are based on E-102 Gamma.
** G.U.N. are taken from ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure2''.
** Buzzbombers and Motobugs make appearances.
** There is a subtle TakeThat to the controversial InterspeciesRomance of ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006''.
** [[VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog The Commander of G.U.N.]] is briefly mentioned.
** [[spoiler: Sonic comes across the Green Hill Zone at the end of the film, and is viewed from afar by Knuckles the Echidna.]]
* OminousFloatingSpaceship: The Egg Carrier fleet flying over Station Square.
* OneWordTitle
* RoleReprisal: As noted, Jaleel White reprises his ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog''[=/=]''WesternAnimation/SonicSatAM''[=/=]''WesternAnimation/SonicUnderground'' as Sonic himself.
* SacrificialLamb: A G.U.N. soldier who is roboticised after being interrogated by Dr. Robotnik.
* SequelHook: [[spoiler: Dr. Robotnik gains three Chaos Emeralds, Sonic comes across the Green Hill Zone, and Knuckles the Echidna watches from afar contemplating the consequences of Sonic's actions.]]
* ShoutOut: President Bushnell's name seems to be a nod to Nolan Bushnell, one of the brains behind Creator/{{Atari}}.
* StandardSciFiFleet: Dr. Robotnik's air fleet of [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure Egg Carriers]].
* {{Stripperiffic}}: In a behind the scenes extra, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpvRaOnslTk Doug as Sonic.]]
* TheStoic: Dr. Robotnik for most of the film shows little emotion during most of his dialog and speeches to the public.
* StunnedSilence: All of the G.U.N. troops are stunned by Sonic's appearance when they encounter him.
* TakeThat: A joke about the InterspeciesRomance plot of ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006''. Sonic "flirts" with a human woman, but then says that the two are incompatible since she's a human and he's a hedgehog.
* TotallyRadical: Jaleel White brings a new charm to his old role as Sonic.
* UnexpectedCharacter: Was anyone really expecting [[spoiler:Knuckles]] to show up at the end?
* UnwillingRoboticisation: Though the process is never shown, roboticisation is a FateWorseThanDeath for anyone who opposes Dr. Robotnik, who enjoys it fondly.
* VocalEvolution[=/=]VocalDissonance: White's voice in the film is noticeably raspier than the one he had in the shows (though understandably, considering how much older he is now).
