''How It Should Have Ended'' is an Internet parody series depicting alternate endings for popular movies. It was started by Daniel Baxter and Tommy Watson, featuring Tina Alexander. The episodes are hand drawings given animation, and augmented with special effects and music. Each features an original "ending" that ranges from crazy awesome crossovers, to ridiculous and funny developments, to deconstructing it by [[WhyDontYaJustShootHim simply shooting the villain]] or [[TakeAThirdOption taking a third, sensible action]]. It also hosts featurettes such as "Surviving an Alien Invasion" and comics.

The site [[http://www.howitshouldhaveended.com/ can be found here]], and their Website/YouTube channel is [[http://www.youtube.com/user/HISHEdotcom here]].

Now has a [[ShoutOut/HowItShouldHaveEnded Shout-Out]] page.

!!Tropes used in spoofs:

* ActorAllusion: See ShoutOut.HowItShouldHaveEnded.
* ActuallyPrettyFunny: After Captain America gets fed up with Superman and Batman making fun of him, this happens:
-->'''Cap:''' But wait! Shh! Do you guys hear that?\\
({{Beat}})\\
'''Batman:''' Hear what?\\
'''Cap:''' Do I hear the JusticeLeague calling?\\
(Beat)\\
'''Superman:''' I don't hear anything.\\
'''Batman:''' Yeah, me neither.\\
'''Cap:''' [[Film/TheAvengers Exactly!]]\\
'''Superman:''' (laughs)\\
'''Batman:''' Whammo!\\
'''Superman:''' Captain America burn!
* AffablyEvil: Their interpretation of Darth Vader as a highly quirky individual, who stops to gleefully run around the galaxy informing everyone when he discovers he has a son!
** And one more in ''Jedi'';
--> '''Vader''': I have a ''daughter'' too! That is ''wonderful!'' I must tell everyone!
--> '''Emperor''': You see what you did? Who knows how long he'll be running around like that! Do you ''realise'' how annoying it is to put up with him this way?!
* AffectionateParody: Sometimes. They also have a knack of making fun of films but making fans of the film laugh as well as haters.
** One example of this is their take on TheSocialNetwork. It doesn't actually point out that many logical problems in the movie, just presents the events in a funnier way.
* AlasPoorVillain: In-universe, the "I'm just a lonely Zombie" song from Resident Evil.
* AllJustADream: If only! Poor Indy.
* AllStarCast: Parodied in the ''[[OceansEleven Ocean's 40]]'' trailer.
* AlternateCharacterInterpretation:
** One of [[Film/TheWizardOfOz Glinda the Good Witch]] becomes revealed in-universe after one of the Munchkins shoots the Wicked Witch of the West:
-->Well, this ruins my plan to send you [Dorothy] on a journey, and teach you a lesson, and eventually have you ''kill the Wicked Witch yourself!''
** One of [[SuperMarioBros Bowser]] becomes revealed in one of the other videos: He witnessed Mario slaughter his people, and so decided to call Princess Peach for negotiations. Unfortunately, Mario always interrupts, and nearly kills Bowser in the process.
** Bella from ''{{Twilight}}'' when turned is ''not'' a VegetarianVampire like the Cullens and is pretty damn happy about it.
-->'''Bella:''' Lets go eat some PEOPLE! Woo!
* ArmourIsUseless: Invoked during ''Return of the Jedi''.
--> '''Stormtrooper''': We're wearing armour and these Ewoks are ''still'' killing us!
* ArtEvolution: The animation became livelier as the show progressed.
* AssShove: PulpFiction has Butch choosing to make sure that his treasured watch is NOT forgotten thanks to an airhead girlfriend.
-->'''Butch:''' "In fact...I'm continuing the tradition, baby!"
* AwardSnub: InUniverse. For the 2012 Best Picture Summary where Harry, Snape, and Voldemort wonder why their latest effort in ''Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2'' didn't get a Best Picture nomination.
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: Averted in "How ''Tangled'' should have ended," via an OverlyLongGag of random things getting stuck in Rapunzel's hair.
* BlackBeadEyes
* BlatantLies: The ''OceansEleven'' parody ''Ocean's 40'' movie trailer said that it was BasedOnATrueStory.
* BondGunBarrel: "How ''Casino Royale'' Should Have Ended" begins with Creator/DanielCraig, PierceBrosnan, Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Creator/SeanConnery, TimothyDalton, and Creator/WoodyAllen[[note]]James Bond's nephew in ''Film/CasinoRoyale1967''[[/note]] arguing over who gets to shoot at the camera.
* BondOneLiner: Newt delivers one to the queen after helping Ripley and Bishop gun it down in ''Aliens''.
--> "You're mostly dead now. Mostly."
* {{Breakout Character}}s: The episodes with Franchise/{{Superman}} and Franchise/{{Batman}} at the cafe are considered by many to be the best shorts. As a result, they grace the icons for the HISHE Website/YouTube and Facebook pages, and also have their own show: ''Super Cafe''.
* ButtMonkey: Spider-Man. Especially at the end of ''The Avengers'' video.
--> '''Spider-Man''': When do I get to come in the cafe?
--> '''Superman''': Dude, nobody said you can't come in here.
--> '''Batman''': Yeah, this is a public place.
--> '''Spider-Man''': ... I've been hanging around out here for two years!
--> '''Superman''': Yeah, we know.
--> '''Batman''': It's been hilarious.
* TheCameo
* CameoProp: In ''Film/TheHungerGames'', the sword Cato wields is pretty obviously intended to be Frostmourne from the ''{{Warcraft}}'' series, though attention is never drawn to it.
* CannotKeepASecret: Batman apparently reveals (or tries ro reveal) his SecretIdentity to every girl he finds attractive.
-->'''Iron Man:''' You mean to tell me you've never revealed your secret identity before?
-->'''Batman:''' Uh, no.
-->'''Superman:''' Ha! Try every girl you've ever dated!
-->'''Batman:''' What?
-->'''Superman:''' "Oh, I'm Bruce Wayne, and I like you! Let me tell you my big secret!"
-->'''Batman:''' Oh, [[Film/SupermanII you're one to talk,]] [[LaserGuidedAmnesia Mr. Mind Eraser]].
* CanonDiscontinuity: Lampshaded in-universe, after Batman has declared that he has the power to "''make an incredibly awesome movie!''":
-->'''Superman:''' So, we're just going to pretend like ''those'' guys never happened? ''[Points to a table where the Penguin from ''Film/BatmanReturns'', Two-Face and the Riddler from ''Film/BatmanForever'' and Mister Freeze from ''Film/BatmanAndRobin'' are sitting]'' Is that what we're doing?\\
'''Batman:''' Yep.
* CardboardPrison: IronMan is pretty GenreSavvy about this trope. {{Batman}} enacts SuspiciouslySpecificDenial about it.
* {{Catchphrase}}:
** "I'm Film/{{Batman}}." Spoofed in one of the earlier shorts, where that's pretty much all he says.
** "You wanna know my secret identity?"
** "Because I'm Batman!"
** Iron Man: "Tank missile!" If Iron Man isn't around, but a character played by Robert Downey Jr is, that character will show up in the Iron Man armor and say the line.
* CharlieAndTheChocolateParody: Mostly the "scary tunnel" sequence.
* ChekhovsGun: The ''Wizard of Oz'' video contains a literal example. As Dorothy rides a carriage through Munchkinland, some Munchkins with guard uniforms and giant guns march behind her. See WhyDontYouJustShootHim below for the payoff.
* ClassicalMythology: Lampshaded
-->'''[[VideoGame/GodOfWar Kratos]]''': [[YouLookFamiliar Ares?]] I already killed you.
-->'''Mars''': Nope, I'm [[PaletteSwap Mars]], the [[InsistentTerminology Roman]] God of War... [[BlatantLies Tooootally different.]]
-->'''Kratos''': NO!
-->'''Mars''': Aww man.
* ChristmasEpisode: "The Holiday Movie Special"
* CloseOnTitle: "How ''Film/TheDarkKnightRises'' Should Have Ended," following Creator/ChristopherNolan's lead.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint - ''The Dark Knight'' vid has an early gag where the Chechen misses the point of Joker's "magic trick."
--> "That wasn't a magic trick! I saw the pencil just went up into his eye, this is lame..."
* ContestWinnerCameo: In the ''ReturnOfTheJedi'' spoof. He's the Imperial Officer who reports to Palpatine that the exhaust ports have been replaced by a giant passage way straight to the reactor core.
* CoolOldGuy: JimmyStewart proclaims he's one in "A Look Back at ''ItsAWonderfulLife''.
* CrossOver: [[{{Terminator}} How Terminator Should End]] is actually a mock trailer crossover between Terminator and [[spoiler:Film/BackToTheFuture!]]
** And it's got to be said, it looks [[SoCoolItsAwesome fantastic]].
** [[SuperMarioBros Bowser manages to finally get rid of Mario]] by [[spoiler: [[VideoGame/{{Portal}} tricking him into the Aperture Science facility.]]]]
-->[[spoiler:[=GLaDOS=]: [[foldercontrol]]

[[folder: Could I interest you in some delicious cake? ]]
]]
** ''{{Slender}}'' and ''Film/TheHungerGames''
** In ''JurassicPark'' the survivor's are flown off the island in a chopper piloted by [[{{Lost}} Lapidus]].
** Every video about a superhero movie since they all end up in the cafe with Superman and Batman.
* CutLexLuthorACheck: In the ''Hunger Games'' parody, one of the random techs wonders this...
-->"Hey, you guys ever think we should use all this money and technology to actually ''solve'' the world's problems? End world hunger? Save the rainforest? No, just me? We'd rather kids fight to the death. Okay... Just thought I'd ask."
* {{Cyborg}}: [[Film/{{Braveheart}} William Wallace]]
* DancePartyEnding: In ''VideoGame/{{Bioshock}}''.
* DeathIsCheap: [[spoiler: Nagini killed Snape before Harry's eyes, but Snape's knowledge of potions and healing injuries helped him survive.]]
* {{Defictionalization}}: [[SuperMarioBros Mario]] ends up in [[spoiler: [[VideoGame/{{Portal}} Aperture Science facility.]]]] Cue {{Mari0}} next year.
* DiscreditedMeme: InUniverse, TheStinger of "How Skyrim Should Have Ended" has everyone show their hatred of the "arrow to the knee" meme;
-->'''Guard:''' I used to be like [the Dragonborn]. Then I took an arrow-
-->'''Crowd:''' SHUT UP!
* DontExplainTheJoke: After Frodo destroys the ring,
-->"Can you imagine what it would've been like if we had walked the entire way"
-->([[EverybodyLaughsEnding Everybody starts laughing]])
-->"It's funny because it's extremely far."
* DownerEnding: Usually played for laughs.
** Since a Munchkin killed the Wicked Witch before Dorothy took her journey through Oz, she went home early, and never took the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion to have their desires granted by the Wizard, and we see their bad fates. Oz then creates Mood Whiplash as he tries to cheer up the viewers.
-->'''Oz''': Eh, don't be sad. I didn't really ever give them what they asked for in the first place!
** The other segment of ''Aliens'' ends with Ripley's decision to send the alien through the airlock, leading to the deaths of her, Newt, and Hicks.
** One of the segments in ''Ghostbusters'' ends with the Ghostbusters dying after trying to cross the streams.
** Kirk and the ''Enterprise'' crew decide to just let themselves get sucked by the black hole. [[spoiler: They end up in the ''StarWars'' universe, and get immediately vaporized by Darth Vader]].
** The ''Pulp Fiction'' video has Mia get a shot of adrenaline to the face, and Vincent and Jules killed by the man who failed to shoot them in the original movie. [[hottip:*:At least Marvin is still alive.]]
** All the children that Anakin killed in ''Revenge of the Sith'' show up as Jedi-Ghosts at the end of ''Return of the Jedi''.
--> '''Child''': You killed all of us as children.
--> {{Beat}}
--> '''Yoda''': Awkward, this is.
** "{{Slender}} [[Film/TheHungerGames Games]]" ends with [[TheSlenderManMythos Slender Man]] [[KillEmAll killing,]] [[AlternateCharacterInterpretation or doing whatever he does]] [[KillEmAll to all the characters]]
** One of the segments in ''Film/TheDarkKnightRises'' ends with Batman bleeding to death and unable to move the reactor out of the bay, resulting in the reactor exploding, and [[KillEmAll everybody dying]].
-->'''Commissioner Gordon:''' Well, poop. I guess that means we're screwed. (explosion)
** ''The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2'' has Alice tells the Volturi exactly what will happen if chose to fight them, to try and convince them to back down. The Volturi thank her for [[NiceJobBreakingItHero giving them foreknowledge]] of what to avoid, then they kill her and then proceed to [[KillEmAll massacre everyone]] except for Jacob and Bella's daughter.
** ''Jurassic Park'' has the T-Rex eat Grant, Sattler, the kids and Mr. Arnold, and it's implied that a poison spitting dinosaur kills Hammond, Malcolm and [[Series/{{Lost}} Frank Lapidus]] (who was piloting the helicopter that saves Hammond and Malcom).
** Since Gandalf made Bilbo destroy the Ring in ''The Hobbit'', our heroes are unable to defeat the dragon, who apparently burns them as they try to flee.
** {{Inception}} (before the credits) ends with Mal pointing out Cobb and his team in Fischer's dream and dream security kills them by shooting them. However, after that, we have the beach party ending, which isn't much of a downer.
--> '''Mal''': There they are.
--> '''Fischer''': Get out of my head, you criminals!
--> '''Cobb''': Dang it, Mal!
** ''The Bourne Identity'' ends with Bourne being killed by an assassin after breaking all his bones from falling.
** ''Film/{{Predator}}'' ends with the Predator [[KillEmAll killing everybody]] in the helicopter because there are weapons on it.
-->'''Dutch:''' You idiots! There are weapons on the chopper!
* EasterEgg: At the end of "How ''The Avengers'' should have ended," not only do the boxes link to the videos about the Avengers' solo movies, and the onscreen heroes to their movies' parodies, but Superman's and Batman's tabletop and everything on it links to other vidoes featuring the duo.
* EverybodyLaughsEnding: ''Film/TheLordOfTheRings''
* EveryEpisodeEnding: Each superhero-related episode ends with the heroes talking with Superman and Batman in the coffee shop except for ''Spider-Man 3'', where it appears briefly in the middle.
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: Discussed in "Slender Games"
* FinishHim: When [[Series/GameOfThrones Sansa punches Joffrey]], in a parody of VideoGame/MortalKombat.
* [[FirstGirlWins First Guy Wins]]: Katniss backs out of committing suicide with Peeta to confess that she actually prefers "hottie" Gale.
* FridgeLogic: [[invoked]] They often show more common sense or realistic ways for the movies to have ended invoking this trope.
* FunnyAneurysmMoment: In-universe. As Six notices in the ''HaloReach'' short, one way to make an introduction ''really'' awkward is if every comment you make only keeps highlighting each character's eventual death.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: Occurences during Batman's chats with {{Wolverine}} and Emma Frost in "How ''Film/XMenFirstClass'' Should Have Ended" include [[Film/TheIncredibleHulk Hulk]] sitting with PowerGirl, TheFlash sharing a booth with [[WesternAnimation/HarveyBirdmanAttorneyAtLaw Harvey Birdman]], and Spider-Man waiting outside for an invite.
* GRatedDrug: Willy Wonka decided to install the infamous scary tunnel while on a sugar high.

** Six hears Carter's inspirational opening, [[TemptingFate heavily tempting their fate]], and knows immediately how each of the members will die. [[spoiler: Then knows that he's a dead man too if he lingers with these guys and runs for the hills]].
** Jack in ''Titanic'' knows full well that he's doomed to freeze to death and Rose is going to hog the debris for herself.
* GilliganCut: From [[StarWars Darth Vader]] anticipating how [[ExactWords excited]] his long-lost son is going to be when they meet, to Luke Skywalker's BigNo.

* GoshDangItToHeck: ''Pulp Fiction'' includes one of the many lines containing the f-word, and turns it into gibberish.
* GroinAttack: The easy way to defeat [[Film/TheTexasChainsawMassacre2003 chainsaw guys from Texas]].
** James Bond gets repeatedly beaten as he asks viewers to subscribe.
* TheGuardsMustBeCrazy: Pretty much what the ''Franchise/AssassinsCreed'' parody boils down to.
* HeroicComedicSociopath: Kratos gets played up as this. But not even he can kill Morgan Freeman.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[Film/CaptainAmericaTheFirstAvenger Captain America]] is determined to invoke this, even though there are other and better options available to him.
* HilariousOuttakes: "A Look Back at ''ItsAWonderfulLife''"
* HypocriticalHumor: Megatron jokingly asks if the aliens in ''Film/{{Battleship}}'' look like the pegs from [[TabletopGame/{{Battleship}} the game]], and proceeds to rant about how some movies completely alter iconic designs. To highlight Megatron's hypocrisy, this video portrays him with the same design from the live-action ''Film/{{Transformers}}'' movies, and Optimus Prime as his G1 incarnation (per the events of "How ''Film/TransformersRevengeOfTheFallen'' Should Have Ended").
* IChooseToStay: Thor decides to stay on Midgard with [[HotScientist Jane Foster]] instead of return to Asgard and fight Loki.

** Megatron has this opinion about ''Battleship''.

-->'''Superman''': What's that?
-->'''Batman''': ''Make an incredibly awesome movie!'' ...You know why?
-->'''Superman''': [Resigned] Because you're Bat-
-->'''Batman''': '''[[Quotes/{{Batman}} Because I'm Batman]]'''!

* SpecialGuest: Creator/StanLee, in "How ''The Amazing Spider-Man Should Have Ended''.

--> '''Scotty:''' Everything's got to go.
--> '''Red Shirt:''' Yeah, but... even the cannon?
--> '''Scotty:''' Especially the [[{{Canon}} cannon]].
* StolenMacGuffinReveal: In the ''Film/SherlockHolmes 2'' parody, Holmes and Moriarty try to one up each other in this regard with an air tank and life vest, respectively.
* StupidSacrifice: Captain America's HeroicSacrifice is parodied to be this in HISHE. Why couldn't Cap turn the plane around, circle for a while, find warmer water to crash land into, fly one of the bomb-planes as an escape, or try to find some other way to avoid crashing into freezing arctic water? The film proper never explains, and HISHE has a ''field day'' with it.

* TakeThat: To ''Green Lantern'', who they say can only come in the cafe when he actually makes a ''good'' movie!
** To George Lucas for his ''constant'' need to edit the original Star Wars films, much to the displeasure of the fans. Luke jokes that he's glad his father's force ghost showed up as the Sebastian Shaw version, since it's the only one he'd actually be able to ''recognise''.
** As well spoofing the "Han Shot First" controversy, pointing out Han ''also'' did so in ''Empire'';
--> '''Vader''': Whoa! What are you doing? ''You shot first?!''
--> '''Han''': Yeah? [[CombatPragmatist Why wouldn't I do that?]]
--> '''Vader''': I... I don't know how to answer that?
** ''Revenge of the Fallen'' has Jetfire turn Optimus Prime into "the greatest Autobot, that everyone wishes [him] to be." The extra armor and weapons make Optimus look even clunkier, but then, [[spoiler: it all falls off, revealing G1 Optimus]].

* WarmBloodbagsAreEverywhere: In ''Literature/{{Twilight}}''.
* WhatTheHellHero: To Jake in ''Film/{{Avatar}}'', since he never bothered to tell the Na'vi what the RDA actually wanted from them. You know, the ''entire'' point he was sent on that mission in order to ''prevent'' them from going to war?
** Harry Osborn to his butler after realizing the latter knew the truth about his father, but never told him for ''3 whole years''.
---> '''Harry''': I took a grenade to the face, ''dude!''
** Bishop and Newt to Ripley after she opens the airlock.
** Superman to Batman, after he decided instead to simply ''run over'' the Joker, since it "[[LoopholeAbuse didn't kill him]]".

'''Batman''': Uh-huh.\\
'''Superman''': You ''ran over a human being''.\\
'''Batman''': Sure did.\\
'''Superman''': But... what about [[ThouShaltNotKill your rule]]?!\\
'''Batman''': ''[Smugly]'' Didn't kill 'im.\\
''[Cut to the Joker, lying in a hospital bed covered in casts, moaning in pain]''\\
'''The Joker''': [[CatchPhrase You wanna know how I got these scars?]]\\
'''Nurse''': From Batman?\\
'''The Joker''': ''From Batman''.
** In ''Harry Potter'', [[spoiler: Snape]] shoots Voldemort, then [[spoiler: uses the Time Turner and Invisibility Cloak to kill young Tom Riddle as well.]]
** Played with in ''{{Film/Saw}}'', where the gun is fired by accident and has the bullet ricocheting around the room and hitting the playing dead Jigsaw killing him, essentially preventing most of the subsequent franchise.
* WithinParameters: Parodied in ''Spider-man 3'':
-->'''Scientist 1:''' There's a change in the silicon mass.\\
'''Scientist 2:''' Yeah, it's probably just a bird.\\
'''Scientist 3:''' Here's a bright idea: why don't you make sure it's just a bird before you mutate the crap out of something just because you were too lazy to safely run this nighttime sand mutation experiment?\\
'''Scientist 2:''' Fine. (stops experiment) ...That is a big bird down there. Kinda looks like a guy. Oh, wait, it ''is'' a guy down there!
