-->''[[DareToBeBadass "Are you toon enough?"]]''

Toontown Online [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin is pretty much what it says in the title]], a town full of toons, online! It's an MMORPG featuring falling flower pots, cream pies, and [[BreadEggsMilkSquick corruption of humanity]]. Unlike most {{MMORPG}}s, this one has a basic turn-based system and can literally [[YourHeadAsplode make peoples' head explode]]. No literally, when a cog loses a battle, its head explodes!

Not to be confused with [[ToonTown that place where cartoon characters live.]]

Toontown Online closed on September 19, 2013. However, fans remain loyal to the game and some are even making private servers, such as ''Toontown Rewritten.'' This may not be the last we'll ever see of Toontown.
----
!This game provides examples of:

* AbnormalAmmo: Cog moves such as Double Talk, Buzzword, Jargon, Red Tape, and Pecking Order as well as Toon moves such as Cream Pies, Rain Clouds, and a giant ship.
* AbsentmindedProfessor: Flippy and Professor Pete.
* AllDesertsHaveCacti: In the Western themed furniture sets.
* AllegedlyFreeGame: It claims to be free to play, with perks for subscribers. Of course, those perks include the ability to venture out of Toontown Central and its three streets, to learn more than the first four levels of Gags (attacks) of the two starting Gag tracks, buy clothes for your Toon and furniture for your house (among other things) from Clarabelle's Cattlelog, play games other than the few {{Mini Game}}s in the first Playground, and so on.
** And buy items for friends.
** It had gotten a ''lot'' better with this - free accounts allow you to go anywhere (however, you can't buy anything outside of Toontown Central), use Speedchat Plus, buy from the Cattlelog and have up to 50 friends. Unfortunately, free users can't go into Cog Buildings or buy stuff outside Toontown Central.
** Now that Toontown is closing, all Toons can now buy stuff, go on missions to all the areas, fight Cog bosses and wear items.
* AlwaysAccurateAttack: There are S.O.S. Toons who can make it so that the next round of the Toons' attacks hit. There is also an inverse where some S.O.S. Toons make it so that the next round of Cogs' attacks miss.
* AmazingTechnicolorBattlefield: Encountering a cog in Minnie's Melodyland or Daisy Gardens.
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: Toons. Some Cogs, too.
* AmbulanceChaser: The almighty Ambulance Chaser, who is a ''Law''bot.
* AmoralAttorney: All Lawbots.
* AndYourRewardIsClothes: All Toontasks with the reward being "Clothing Tickets", which you can use to buy clothes.
* AnvilOnHead: One Drop gag is an anvil.
* {{Arcadia}}: Don't you wish you can visit those places in the rural racetracks? The only noise there is are the racecars...
* ATasteOfPower: In the middle of the Toontorial, Clerk Clara shows you what gags you can earn if you train.
* AwesomeButImpractical: Trap gags, if nobody can use a lure gag to trap the Cog into the trap gag.
** The entire Drop Track in general. While they are second only to Trap Gags in terms of damage done, they have the lowest base accuracy of any gag track. Unless you have a friend who is simultaneously training Squirt Gags (very high accuracy), you're gonna be gag camping for a looooong time.
* BadBoss: Bossbots. You can even use their Pink Slips to fire Cogs.
* BallroomBlitz: Not necessarily a ballroom, but the C.E.O. battle is supposed to be a sophisticated and well-mannered meeting about golf or plotting the toons' defeat. Until you sabotage his plans by making the guests explode with bad drinks...
* BananaPeel: The first Trap Gag is this.
* BandLand: Minnie's Melodyland.
* BitingTheHandHumor: The Cogs can easily be interpreted as a TakeThat against the Eisner-era Disney executives.
* BigFancyHouse: The Clubhouse in the Bossbot HQ.
* BiggerOnTheInside: Any Toon building where you can walk all the way around it and at times, even those you can't. Also, generally, Cog Buildings are sort of like this.
* BigLabyrinthineBuilding: Factories, Mints, and District Offices.
* BleakLevel: Cog Buildings and Headquarters.
* BreakingtheFourthWall: One of a Legal Eagle's sayings when it uses the attack "Legalese" is "The opinions of this attack are not those of Disney's Toontown Online."
* BribingYourWayToVictory: Parodied with the Cashbot Promotion track. Once you have the Cashbot Disguise, you have to get a certain number of Cogbucks (by beating Cashbots or taking over the Mints) to see the C.F.O. for a "promotion" (aka fighting him).
** The lure gag track consists of fake cogbucks used to make cogs come closer to the user ForMassiveDamage if you want to use another gag or to leading them into a trap or to temporarily stun them.
* ButThouMust: Not only do you have to do all of the non "Just for Fun" Tasks in each Playground before the game sends you to the next one, there are several points in the game where it's very easy to end up in a Playground with only a single, very difficult Task, unable to proceed. The first obvious spot would probably be Daisy Gardens where you have to [[RandomlyDrops get a key from a Cog]] species found only inside buildings, but the exact Cogs you face in each building is random, and that species is quite rare at the levels of the Toons that would be going for the Key.
* ChekhovsGun/[[ChekhovsHobby Hobby]]: When you play the minigames, there is one minigame where you have to shoot yourself out of the cannon and aim yourself into a big tub of water. [[spoiler: Later in the game, when you fight the CJ, guess what you have to use?]]
** Similarly, the 'treasures' that heal you in the main playgrounds reappear in the CFO battle and the golf course in Chip n' Dale's acres reappear in the CEO battle.
* ChokepointGeography: If you don't have teleport access to an area in Toontown, you can only get through there by walking.
** Same with the Cog Headquarters, since you can't get teleport access there.
* CityNoir: The Lawbot Headquarters is surrounded by one. A popular fan theory is that the city is the location of Cog Nation.
* CloudCuckooLander: Pretty much everybody.
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: The four types of Cogs have distinct logos and clothing colors that you can easily tell apart. About the only way you can tell a Short Change from a Cold Caller at a distance (see PaletteSwap below).
* CombatMedic: In most boss battles, there will usually be one person who has stocked up on a lot of Toon-Up gags or Toon-Up and/or Gag-Up phrases to help.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: The cogs, especially the C.E.O.
* CourtroomEpisode: The Chief Justice battle. The big guy himself even makes several references to CourtroomAntics as you make your case.
* CutesyNameTown: Toontown and its surrounding areas.
* DamnYouMuscleMemory: Toontown has a relatively unusual control scheme. Movement is arrow keys only (as opposed to arrow keys or the WASD keys in some other games), and you don't press any specific key to start chatting, just start typing. If you've been away from the game for a while, you may end up typing long strings of characters when you're trying to walk around. Jumping is also different, with the Ctrl key instead of spacebar.
* DancePartyEnding: When a battle finishes, the surviving Toons dance while gag experience and Toontask updates are completed.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Donald's Dreamland has no references to nightmares, only puns on sweet dreams and sleep. [[DemonicSpider The Cogs, on the other hand....]]
* DemotedToExtra: Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Daisy Duck, Minnie Mouse, and Pluto.
* DisneyVillainDeath: The V.P.
* DistressedDamsel/DistressedDude: Anybody who gets caged by the V.P.
* TheDreaded: The C.E.O., and the mysterious Chairman.
* DreamLand: Donald's Dreamland, complete with a purple-black color-scheme, and the playground looking like a giant bed.
* DreadfulMusician: Toons who specialize in Sound gags and have Sound gag trees.
* DressingAsTheEnemy: Toons can build Cog Disguises to break into Cog Headquarters.
* DropTheHammer: The giant gavels in [[spoiler: the Chief Justice battle]]
* DuelBoss: Sometimes brave/foolish toons will go and fight Bosses alone.
* DungeonShop: ''Completely'' averted. Cog buildings and [=HQs=] have no shops; you have to either leave or retake the building. Besides, shops are in [[HubLevel the playgrounds.]]
* EasilyAngeredShopkeeper: Sometimes you'll run into a toontask with a very mean shopkeeper.
* EccentricTownsfolk
* EdibleAmmunition: The entire Throw Gag Section features cupcakes to pies to wedding cakes.
* EternalEngine: The Sellbot HQ Factories are the closest the game gets to this.
* EvilTowerOfOminousness: Sellbot Towers.
* ExtendedGameplay: Beating all the toontasks in the Toon neighborhoods unlocks the [[spoiler: Cashbot suit toontasks]]. Beating that unlocks the [[spoiler: Lawbot suit toontasks]]. Beating that unlocks the [[spoiler: Bossbot suit toontasks]]. Beating ''that'' unlocks [[spoiler: quite a few "Just for Fun!" toontasks]]
* FakeLongevity: The "Just for Fun!" toontasks allowed Toontown to create more time with the game without making new levels.
** As well as the ever-known maxing out cog suits/gardening/racing/fishing.
* {{Fanfare}}: There is a trumpet gag.
** You also get a real one when you maximize certain stats, such as once for every gag track you complete and one for maximum gardening shovel points.
* FishingMinigame: There's a fishing pond in every Playground and on every Street. There's Fishing BINGO every Wednesday, sometimes you have to fish for a Toon Task's objectives, and sometimes you fish just because it's one of the most lucrative methods of gaining [[GlobalCurrency Jellybeans]].
* FourIsDeath: There are 4 kinds of cogs; Bossbots, Lawbots, Sellbots, and Cashbots.
* FriendlyTickleTorture: Tickling can be used to restore health.
* FunetikAksent: Dun on purpus to mayk puns luk punnier.
* FunPersonified: Most of the Toons qualify. That's... probably the very reason various practical jokes are their main weapon.
* GardenOfEvil: The Cog golf courses.
* GarnishingTheStory:
** BearsAreBadNews: {{Inverted|trope}}. You can play as one.
** EverythingsBetterWithMonkeys: You can only get Monkey toons if you subscribe for Toontown.
** EverythingsBetterWithSparkles: They are a toon gag that can restore a lot of Laff Points.
** EverythingsBetterWithSpinning: Spin Doctors, with their signature attack, Spin!
** EverythingsCuterWithKittens: Depends what the Cat toon looks like though...
** EverythingsFunkierWithDisco: Tie-die shirts... There's even a tie-die clan that some people made up...
* TheGhost: The Chairman, who was mentioned but never seen.
* GlobalCurrency: Jellybeans.
** Cogs use Cogbucks.
* GoodHurtsEvil: Gags can be used to make Cogs explode.
* GreenHillZone: Daisy Gardens.
* TheGoomba: Flunkies, Bottom Feeders, Short Changes, and Cold Callers.
* {{Halloweentown}} / BigBoosHaunt: During Halloween, the entire town is decorated with all things Halloween-y.
* {{Hammerspace}}: The gag pouch/bag/backpack; the place where you keep your gags.
** Cogs also have their own kind of hammerspace where they get their attacks.
* HazardousWater / MakingASplash: The Squirt Gag Track.
* HeliCritter: A certain glitch can let a toon float and "fly".
* HelloInsertNameHere
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler: The C.F.O battle with his own goons getting thrown at him as well as his own safes when he is stunned.]]
* HubCity: The 4 Cogs Headquarters.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Toons.
** Cogs too. In contrast to the Toons' cartoony practical jokes, Cogs mostly use office supplies.
* ImprovisedWeapon: The C.F.O. batttle stars the magnet cranes and safes. The C.J. battle stars the ''evidence'' from the witness' stand. The C.E.O. stars golf clubs and seltzer bottles.
* IncrediblyLamePun: Oh so many things...
** The second Toon-up gag is a megaphone for telling jokes.
** Don't forget the side and back doors on buildings! When you approach them, they tell knock-knock jokes, with a laugh track and rimshot following the punchline.
* Instant180DegreeTurn: In some minigames such as the jungle one or the cog escape one.
* InstrumentOfMurder: Bugles to severed Opera Singers' heads.
* InsurmountableWaistHighFence: You can jump in the game, even jump high enough over fences, but you still can't get past them!
* InterfaceSpoiler: Sellbot HQ, Cashbot HQ, Lawbot HQ, and Bossbot HQ. You know the rest.
* [[InverseLawOfSharpnessAndAccuracy Inverse Law Of Lethality And Accuracy]]: In the game, the scary gags that seem like they would be the most lethal(the entire drop gag track) has the worst accuracy.
** Drop Gag accuracy greatly improves when the Cog has been hit by Squirt or Sound Gags in that same round (Drop goes last of all gags).
* JokeItem: The first sound gag, which is the only gag incapable of one-shotting a Cog.
* JungleJapes: One of the minigames take place in a jungle, despite Toontown not having one at all.
* KangarooCourt: The Lawbot legal system, at least whenever a Toon is the defendant.
* KissOfLife: The third Toon-up gag is lipstick, in which you have to kiss someone to restore some of their health.
* HauntedCastle: The Bossbot Headquarters resembles one.
* LargeAndInCharge: The BossCogs.
* LevelGrinding: Required for most of the higher-level stuff. Gag "camping" is one of the most common, where you fill up with just one or two types of gags, and go hunt lower-level street Cogs to get experience.
** Gardening is the most annoying, because you can only pick a flower once a day, and there's only ten flowers you can plant at a time. Worse, even the max-level flowers only give you ''one point per flower'', requiring over a '''month''' of real time to level from 7- to 8-bean flowers.
* LighterAndSofter: Than most [=MMORPGs=]. Toons don't die, and Cogs are robots.
* LethalLavaLand: The Sellbot Factory and Cashbot Mints have lava rooms.
* LevelInReverse: The Goofy Speedway features 9 different tracks, with both standard and reverse versions.
* MadMathematician: Bean Counters and Number Crunchers.
* MadScientist: In the old introduction, the cogs were made by Gyro Gearloose, but never intended on them to be released by the world. Some [[Comicbook/TheLifeAndTimesOfScroogeMcDuck rich duck]] came along and released it instead.
* MadeOfExplodium: Cogs. Luckily, the Cogs don't hurt you when they explode.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: The CFO's last words before he gets hit by a train, and after many goons and safes are thrown at him:
-->''"I've had enough of these pesky toons!"''
* MarathonLevel: The Back Nine.
* TheMaze: The Maze Game. The first stage of the Cog field office buildings involves a maze mini-game where players have to throw water balloons at the Cogs walking around to recover jokes and unlock the exit. The more jokes recovered, the more health restored when you do reach the exit.
* {{Mecha Mook}}s: Cogs
* MercyMode: The "Run" option in cog battles. (This is, however, sometimes shaded in places such as cog buildings and boss battles).
* MindControlDevice: Hypno-goggles.
* MinigameZone: The Trolley takes you to play mini-games.
* MookMaker: The Boss Cogs.
* MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate: The Spin Doctors and possibly the Ambulance Chasers, both from the Lawbots.
* {{Mordor}}: Each of the Cog HQs.
** Made hilarious by the fact that paid members can walk right into the Cog HQs- though it's advised that they make sure they have high health before doing so, especially in Bossbot HQ.
* MrFixit: A few of the people who give out toontasks.
* MultipleHeadCase: Double Talkers, Two-Faces, the VP, and the CEO.
* NiceHat: Toons with hat accessories.
* NightmarishFactory / PollutedWasteland: The Sellbots own a factory where they manufacture other Sellbots, which also doubles as their headquarters. It is surrounded by huge rubbish dumps, the ground is covered in oil slicks and the air is clogged with smoke.
* NoSenseOfHumor: The reason why Cogs explode when you pelt them with [[AbnormalAmmo Gags]].
* NonLethalKO: Cogs explode out of laughter, and toons don't die, they become sad!
* NoobCave: Toontown Central
* NotQuiteFlight: See Heli-Critter above.
* OneManArmy: With all of this game's focus on teamwork and [[PowerOfFriendship friendship]], you would not expect something like this. However, if you know what you're doing, along with going to collect the necessary equipment, your toon could become this ''anywhere'' in the game. [[http://www.youtube.com/user/Lawlsworth Just ask this guy]].
* PaletteSwap: Several Cogs.
* PalmtreePanic: Some parts of Donald's Dock
* PersonalRainCloud: The second-to-last squirt gag.
** Some Cogs have their own variations on this.
* PickUpGroup: Any battle above a street battle will have you forming one of these.
* PieInTheFace: Fruit Pie, Cream Pie, Birthday Cake, and Wedding Cake.
* PivotalBoss: The CFO and CJ.
* PlayerHeadquarters: Toon Headquarters, and your Estate.
* PortTown: [[DonaldDuck Donald's]] [[IncrediblyLamePun Dock.]]
* PostEndGameContent: See Extended Gameplay above.
* ThePowerOfFriendship: Bosses and buildings are designed to be taken down by multiple toons. There is even a toontorial toontask that asks the player to 'Make a Friend'.
* PowerUpFood: Ice-Cream treasures.
* PunnyName: Too many to name.
* QuicksandSucks: It certainly does for the Cogs.
* RailroadTracksOfDoom: The Cashbot Headquarters, and the final Trap Gag.
* RichBitch: The Cashbots.
* SadClown: Anybody who reaches zero in their Laff Meter.
** As well as the fairly common Sad Clown Fish.
* ScreamingWoman / ScreamingWarrior: The final sound gag, the Opera Voice.
* SceneryGorn: The Sellbot Headquarters, which is themed after an industrial wasteland, with smog-choked skies, huge rubbish dumps that could also be mountains, gravel everywhere and oil slicks on the ground, too.
* SceneryPorn: Ironic, as the Cogs are meant to be gray and boring, but the [[http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120220072403/toontown/images/f/fe/Cashbot_Headquarters.png Cashbot Headquarters]] is arguably one of the most [[http://i.imgur.com/ChhnDgp.png beautiful]] places in the game.
* ScrewThisImOutOfHere: The VP tries this after his first round of Cogs are defeated. Realizing that the Toons insist on pursuing him, he decides to continue fighting.
** The CFO also does this when he realizes that he's losing the battle with the toons. He is promptly run over by a train while trying to escape.
** The CJ just retires to his chambers after the Toons win the trial and schedules a new one.
* SelfImposedChallenge: Maxing cog suits/gardening/racing/golf.
* ShoutOut: There are a few of these here and there; For example, one of the buildings in Donald's Dock is called "[[WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes What's Up, Dock?]]".
* SinisterSubway: The Cashbot Headquarters is just one huge subway station, albeit with banks lining it.
* SinglePaletteTown: Most of the areas of Toontown have their own special colors, especially the Brrrgh and Donald's Dreamland.
* SlapstickKnowsNoGender: There are four female cogs in Toontown; The Mingler, Number Cruncher, Micromanager, and Name Dropper, all of which can be subjected to the same slapstick violence as the other cogs.
* SlippySlideyIceWorld: The Brrrgh.
* SoftWater: The final Toon-Up gag is [[spoiler:a high dive into a cup of water.]]
* SmashingHallwayTrapsOfDoom: Many of the Cog Headquarters have these, most notably the Sellbot factory which has an area that is quite literally the definition of this trope.
* SpitefulAI: In the Cog Thief minigame, the cogs try to steal barrels that contain gags, and you try to throw pies at them to make them explode. If they hit you, they explode and you fly into the air. When this happens, the cogs currently on screen will turn away from the money and try to run into you, even though they will instantly explode upon running into you.
** [[TheComputerIsACheatingBastard You stay in the air forever, and if you get hit even once, you're not saving any of those gag barrels.]]
* SpitTake: The second Squirt gag is a glass of water. Guess what you do with it.
* StuffBlowingUp: Cogs.
* StupidBoss: Bossbots, the C.E.O., The Chief Justice, the C.F.O., and the V.P.
* SugarApocalypse: The Cogs threaten to cause this.
* TacticalSuicideBoss: The Goons that the CFO summons can be used to damage him.
* TheDevTeamThinksOfEverything: Try using the New Friend command on someone other than a player.
-->Use on a Cog: A few seconds of waiting, and then "(Cog name) says no, thank you."
-->Use on your own Doodle: "(Doodle name) is already your BEST friend."
-->Use on someone else's Doodle: "(Doodle name) jumps around, runs in circles and licks your face."
** Technically not Toontown Online, but in Toontown Rewritten, during Doomsday, if you tracked down a cowering Alec Tinn behind the Bank, he'd think you're one of the Cogs.
-->'''Alec:''' "Don't hurt me!! Oh, phew, it's only you."
* TheVeryDefinitelyFinalDungeon: Bossbot HQ.
* ThreateningSharks: Loan Sharks.
* TooAwesomeToUse: Level 7 Gags, SOS Toons, Unite Phrases, Cog Summons, and Pink Slips especially.
* ToonTown: [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin It's in the name, yo]].
* {{Trapdoor}}: The level 5 Trap gag is a trap door.
* TwoFaced: Obviously, the Two Faces and Double Talkers
* {{Uncanceled}}: Ever since Toontown's closure was announced, fans have taken matters into their own hands and are reviving the game as ''Toontown Rewritten.'' Toontown fan sites and forums continue to remain active as well.
* VoiceGrunting: Every living thing.
* {{Wackyland}}: The whole game, except for the Cog Headquarters.
* WhereItAllBegan: The last toontask for your Bossbot Suit takes you back to Flippy.
* WhiteGloves: Every single Toon wears them.
* WordsCanBreakMyBones: Several Cog attacks use words as a weapon.
* YouNoTakeCandle: Some toons like to speak this way in Chat.
* XtremeKoolLetterz: Several Toon names have these.
