->''"Would you sacrifice the world for the sake of one girl?"''

The direct sequel to Namco Bandai's ''VideoGame/TalesOfXillia''. {{Late Arrival Spoiler}}s abound!

Elympios is a technologically-advanced but polluted world that exists alongside Rieze Maxia, the setting of ''VideoGame/TalesOfXillia''. Thanks to the recent development of Spyrite technology, a new [[GreenAesop clean energy]] resource, Elympios is slowly starting to recover from decades of crippling mana shortages that have left the land almost barren.

Ludger Kresnik is a twenty-year-old cook and JackOfAllTrades who has managed to inherit a staggering ''twenty million Gald'' debt. With collectors from the Clanspia Company MegaCorp hounding him, he has no choice but to seek out new sources of work and pay back his debt, by way of his old friend and bank accountant Nova.

As he goes about his business, Ludger meets a young MysteriousWaif called Elle Marta, whose father is in trouble and needs her to travel to "Canaan", a mythical land that grants wishes. Ludger agrees to help her, only to become wrapped up in a plot far beyond anything he expected.

A number of mysterious [[AlternateUniverse parallel worlds]] have begun to emerge, and Ludger's [[InTheBlood bloodline]] gives him the ability to transform into a [[OneWingedAngel powerful, monstrous warrior]] capable of travelling into them. The presence of these parallel worlds is threatening the future of Elympios, and Ludger is tasked by Bisley Karcsi Bakur (CEO of Clanspia Company) with seeking out and destroying the "Time Factors" that form the keystones of this threat. Aiding Ludger are his [[TeamPet pet cat Rollo]] and the returning cast from ''VideoGame/TalesOfXillia'', but he must also contend with his brother Julius, who works for Clanspia Company but [[WildCard seems to have his own agenda]] regarding Elle and the Time Factors.

All of the main characters from ''Xillia'' make a reappearance, including some characters that were killed (who appear in the parallel worlds). The combat system (''Cross Double Raid Linear Motion Battle System'') will allow the player to switch between different weapon styles on the fly in the heat of battle, with Ludger switching between [[DualWielding twin blades]], [[GunsAkimbo twin pistols]] and [[DropTheHammer a hammer]]. Link Artes have been split into Unique Artes and Common Artes, the latter of which can be performed between any two characters that have the appropriate move. Furthermore, Ludger now has a special LimitBreak gauge that, when activated, teleports the battlefield into a parallel world where he gains incredible power for a short time.

A huge emphasis is being placed on choice, with many cutscenes allowing the player to make multiple-choice decisions that will affect the outcome of the plot. [[http://www.siliconera.com/2013/07/06/tales-of-xillia-2-is-coming-to-the-west-in-2014/ The game has been confirmed for a Western release in 2014.]]

!!Trope associated with this game so far:
* AmplifierArtifact: The pocket watches. Using two watches to transform instead of one temporarily increases the power of your Corpse Shell by one level. [[spoiler:A bigger example is Elle herself, who unwittingly becomes Ludger's AmplifierArtifact as a Key of Kresnik and pays the price for his use of Corpse Shell]].
* AntiMagic: Redau and Clanspia Company create [[spoiler:a portable version of the Spear of Kresnik from ''VideoGame/TalesOfXillia'', which they equip their shocktroopers with like rifles]].
* BadassAndChildDuo: Ludger and Elle by the looks of things.
* BadassBeard: Alvin has been growing one lately.
* BadassLongcoat: Julius has one.
* BagOfSpilling: [[spoiler: The entire Xillia cast are weaker than a year ago. Justified as Lilium Orbs have lost their power.]]
* BigBrotherMentor: The relationship between Ludger and Elle is set to be a familial one. Given that there's a twelve-year age gap between them and [[spoiler:they're father and daughter]], it's for the best. Ludger also has his own in the form of Julius.
* BigOlEyebrows: Bisley is definitely giving [[VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss Van]] a run for his money with those things.
* {{Bishounen}}: Almost all of the male characters so far. Especially the Kresnik brothers. Looks like good looks run in the the family.
* [[spoiler:BittersweetEnding: The parallel worlds are erased and the world is saved from being consumed by Canaan, but either Ludger or Elle sacrifice themselves to save the other. And if Elle sacrifices herself, there's an implication that [[StableTimeLoop the events of the game may repeat themselves]]]].
** [[spoiler:Then there's the Bad Ending, where Ludger refuses to kill Julius, but in defending him [[KillEmAll must kill the rest of the party]] and doom the world. And even though the brothers find solace in each other, Julius is still infected by his Time Factor and has no hope of a cure]].
* BloodierAndGorier: In a significant departure from the usual ''TalesSeries'' policy of BloodlessCarnage, ''Xillia 2'' includes frequent blood splatters and BloodFromTheMouth, mostly when [[spoiler:Ludger stabs someone to destroy their Time Factor]]. This was probably a significant factor in the "C" rating[[labelnote:*]]15yrs and up[[/labelnote]] given to the game, as the Japanese rating system is ''much'' harsher on visible blood than other territories.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: The Time Factors do this to the characters that they have infected.
* ChildhoodFriends: Nova and Vel are Ludger's. They went to school together. And apparently Nova [[ChildhoodFriendRomance pursued Ludger]] in the past. (It was written in updates that Nova was Julius' classmate in the past and she had pursued him, but it was a false translation.)
* TheCorruption: Time Factors, which empower their hosts but eventually consume them. [[spoiler:It is later revealed that the use of Corpse Shell causes one to become a Time Factor, and the only way to avoid this is for a Key of Kresnik to act as a conduit... in which case, ''they'' become a Time Factor instead]].
* CrueltyIsTheOnlyOption: What's that? You want the Platinum Trophy? [[spoiler: Be prepared to have to kill off the entire gang from Xillia if you want it that badly.]]
* DarkerAndEdgier: ''Xillia 2'' is much less optimistic than the more recent titles in the ''TalesSeries'', leaning more towards a [[WorldHalfEmpty Half-Empty]] CrapsaccharineWorld, complete with [[spoiler:a BittersweetEnding]].
* DiabolusExMachina: The discovery that [[spoiler:the party need a Soul Bridge to reach Canaan, and that either Ludger or Julius need to die in order to get it]].
* DemotedToExtra: Everyone from the original except Jude and Milla. There's still the Character Episodes, but aside from that, don't have a major involvement in the story arc itself.
* DiedInYourArmsTonight: [[spoiler:A parallel world Presa dies in Alvin's arms during one of his Character Episodes]].
* DualWielding: Both Ludger and his older brother Julius dual wield. It's most likely something Julius taught Ludger.
* DuelBoss: [[spoiler: As expected, Ludger and Julius.]]
* EngineeredHeroics: In the final episode of the Musee Character Quest, Musee schemes to set up a surprise attack against the party under the rationale that after she swoops in to save the day, everyone will like her. [[spoiler:Unsurprisingly it goes terribly wrong when the monster is far more powerful than she expected. While she does get chewed out for it, it ''does'' make everyone realise how ostracised she feels and leads to them making more of an effort to befriend her]].
* ExpendableALternateUniverse: To a certain extent, the parallel worlds ''are'' reality to those who inhabit it. [[spoiler:Milla is very angry when it's explained to her that Ludger has just destroyed her world]].
** In another example, Elle gets ''very'' upset after [[spoiler:the alternate Milla is sacrificed so that Milla Maxwell can return. To her, the former is the "real" Milla and she is upset by both her loss and the party's diminished reaction to it. Learning to accept Milla Maxwell as a person in her own right is one of the focal points of Elle's character arc]].
** And this point is underscored by TheReveal that [[spoiler:Elle herself is from one of these parallel worlds]].
* {{Expy}}: Khronos shares a lot of his moveset and general disdain of humanity with [[VideoGame/TalesOfPhantasia Dhaos]], leading to many fans nicknaming him "Dhaos 2.0".
** Also another one for Khronos. Khronos is a spirit sent from another time/dimension to kill the main character as well as to test him. Not only that, being voiced by Creator/JunichiSuwabe makes it clear that Khronos has elements of [[VisualNovel/FateStayNight Archer]] in him.
* ForWantOfANail: The Alternate Worlds run on this, usually having one key difference that is centered around whatever or whoever has been infected by the Time Factor.
* FakeLongevity: Early in the game Ludger inherits a 20 million Gald debt that must be paid off over the course of the game, but a certain amount must be paid off in order to advance along the story, which requires grinding for money and doing other monster and item fetch quests.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: When you leave a town, your party remains the same and you can't change it unless you return to town despite the characters being there and commenting on events. Especially odd since in the first game you could switch in the middle of battle.
* GottaCatchEmAll: The cat sidequest, which involves you finding and adopting several stray cats (many of which bear a resemblance to certain ''TalesSeries'' characters), then ''forming your own cat army to scavenge the streets for items and funny hats''. (There is no part of the preceding sentence that is inaccurate.)
* [[spoiler:HumanityOnTrial: The three Prime Spirits set up the events of the game to test whether humans were inherently selfish or selfless. Unfortunately, because one of them ''really'' hates humanity, the test is unfairly stacked against humanity's success]].
* InterruptedIntimacy: [[spoiler:Jude and Milla finally make out in Episode 5 of Jude's Character Quest, only to be interrupted by Jude's colleague]].
* ItRunsInTheFamily: Apparently the Corpse Shell Ability, the ability to cross through worlds, runs through the Kresnik family blood. The pocket watches seen in the trailers are what triggers the ability.
* KidHero: Averted. Like [[VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia Yuri]], Ludger is a grown man who's past his teenage years.
* KilledOffForReal: The body count by the end of the game [[AnyoneCanDie is surprisingly high]], with the parallel universes allowing for plenty of carnage. Of the main characters though: [[spoiler:Alt!Milla dies no matter what you do. The entire party is killed by Ludger if you choose to save Julius. And either Elle or Ludger have to sacrifice themselves to complete Origin's trial. Pretty much the only main character who survives no matter what is Lulu]].
* LittleMissSnarker [=/=] PluckyGirl: Elle could go either way at the moment. [[TakeAThirdOption Or be both]].
* MegaCorp: Clanspia Company. They're such a powerful, influential and omnipresent organisation in Elenpois that they may as well be considered its de facto rulers. Having a private army helps in that regard.
* MulticoloredHair: Ludger and Nova. The former even has differently coloured ''eyebrows''.
* MultipleEndings: There are five confirmed endings, including two [[HotSpringsEpisode gag endings]].
** [[spoiler:Ludger chooses to sacrifice the world to save his brother, Julius]].
** [[spoiler:The world is saved, but Elle has to sacrifice herself in the process. Humanity technically passes Origin's trial, but on a bittersweet note because of Elle's sacrifice]].
** [[spoiler:The world is saved, but Ludger sacrifices himself in place of Elle so that she can live. Humanity technically fails Origin's trial, but Origin allows them to pass anyway because Ludger's selflessness proves the point the trial was meant to test]].
** [[spoiler:HotSpringsEpisode!]]
** [[spoiler:The Tales Cameo team use the Eternal Sword to go up to Canaan, beat up the FinalBoss and rescue Elle for you]].
* NeverTheSelvesShallMeet: Characters from alternate worlds can be brought back into the "real" world, but if they ever meet the original then they fade away.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Nova, unlike her older twin sister, looks as if she's in her mid-teens.
* OneSteveLimit: Sort of averted, in that the Kresnik brothers appear to have the same middle name (Will).
* OneWingedAngel: A rare example of ''TheHero'' doing this. Ludger seems to transform when he goes into the parallel world into... something with [[LovecraftLite Anime]] {{Lovecraftian Superpower}}s. This ability is said to run in his family.
** And his last name is ''Kresnik''. If you played the last game, think about the possibilities.
** [[spoiler: Bisley also has access to Corpse Shell, and uses it during the final battle with him.]]
* ParentalAbandonment: Implied to be the case for Ludger and Julius. It says that Julius, who is eight years older than his younger brother, has taken care of Ludger since he was young. Ludger also lives with only his brother.
* PaintItBlack: The Time Factors turn the skin of the infected person black, and [[RedEyesTakeWarning their eyes red]].
* PlotCoupon: The "Guideposts Of Canaan", which can be harvested from certain Time Factors. When all of them are gathered, the road to Canaan opens. [[spoiler:But to actually get there, you need a "Soul Bridge", which can only be harvested from someone of Kresnik blood]].
* [[spoiler:PoweredByAForsakenChild: Elle is (accidentally) used as a conduit for Ludger's Corpse Shell, which means that she will suffer the consequence of turning into a Time Factor instead of him. This method also caused the death of Bisley's wife, which is how his Corpse Shell ability got so advanced. Subverted in the Semi-Good/Good Ending when Ludger makes a ''proper'' contract with the watches that empower Corpse Shell, unleashing the full power of his Corpse Shell and freeing Elle from the equation]].
* RelationshipValues: Completing their Character Episodes and selecting certain dialogue options will strength Ludger's friendship with his party members. This unlocks additional scenes with these characters, and eventually their [[LimitBreak Link Mystic Arte]] with Ludger.
* {{Retcon}}: Many, most notably and inexplicably Rieze Maxia's fixed weather patterns (i.e. eternal night in Il Fan), which were shown in Xillia's ending to have faded along with the Shell. A bonus scene with the Four Greats indicates they have also forgotten that plot point.
* SadisticChoice: Ludger gets faced with a ''lot'' of these. [[spoiler: See the entries for MultipleEndings and BittersweetEnding for examples.]]
* SharpDressedMan: Pretty much every male character that's been revealed so far. But especially [[ManInWhite Julius]].
* [[spoiler:StableTimeLoop: It's implied that the Semi-Good ending may lead to one of these, with a chance that Ludger could become a new version of Victor]].
* SupremeChef: Ludger
* TeamPet: Rollo, Ludger's extremely fat cat, who's mostly usurped this role from Teepo. He accompanies him almost everywhere, only staying behind for [[spoiler: the final battle]] due to Ludger's concern for his safety. Even then, he shows up in the aftermath.
* ThanksForTheMammary: When Jude, Elle, Ludger, and Milla go through a volcano, Milla trips and nearly falls in. Ludger can save her after a DialogueChoice...which results in this.
* ThemeMusicPowerUp: Happens during [[spoiler:the final boss fight, after Ludger unlocks his Lv.4 Corpse Shell]].
* ZettaiRyouiki: Leia wears one in her new outfit.
