->''SUBJECT: Gordon [=McGinley=]\\
Male, age 30\\
POSITION: Warehouse manager\\
ASSIGNMENT: Storage Facility''

'''''Sweet Half-Life''''' is a ''VideoGame/HalfLife1'' mod made by Marc Ellis and Koumei Satou, the latter of whom was also the creator of ''[[GratuitousEnglish Peaces Like Us]]'' and the ''VideoGame/HalfLife2'' mod ''Mistake of Pythagoras''.

The mod is set around the same time as the original game and its expansion packs, seen through the eyes of Gordon [=McGinley=], the Black Mesa warehouse manager as he tries to escape the facility after the Resonance Cascade.

[[http://www2d.biglobe.ne.jp/~ks_wca/shlhtm/shl_fm_e.htm Can be downloaded online]].

This game mod takes place in same universe as ''Half-Life'', therefore the same tropes apply.

----
!!''Sweet Half-Life'' provides examples of the following tropes:

* ActionGirl: The unnamed girl who helped [=McGinley=] throughout the mod [[spoiler:and rescued Shephard in the GoldenEnding]].
* AdaptationDeviation: Liberties are taken when it comes to scenarios prior to the lore presented by ''VideoGame/BlackMesa'' and ''VideoGame/BlackMesaBlueShift''.
** It introduces larger trams that can, not only, accommodate large passengers but carry cargo containers too.
** In ''Opposing Force'', [[spoiler:which is referenced via Shepherd being stranded (and later rescued)]], the Black Ops operate independently from HECU (and are hostile to them) - here, the two operate together with no problems.
** The ending shows that HECU did, indeed, commenced a counter-invasion in Xen but failed. This is not present in the ''Black Mesa'' remake.
* AdaptedOut: Despite ''Opposing Force'' being referenced, as noted above, the male Black Ops and Race X are not present (the Greys taking the latter's place as a secondary invasion force).
* AffectionateParody: Of '50s/'60s sci-fi films, owing to the Grey's inclusion, mixed in with some anime elements.
* Music/AlsoSprachZarathustra: Used to [[spoiler:complete the ''2001'' ShoutOut]].
* {{Animesque}}: It is an American-made fan game with Satou, acting as the game's concept artist which shows with the ''Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion-esque'' art-syle for the characters.
* ArtificialBrilliance: [[spoiler:The friendly HECU marines in the mothership were noticeably smarter than the ones from ''Opposing Force'', who'll sometimes turn on you for no reason]].
* BadassBookworm: In sharp contrast to the, normally, NonActionGuy status for the scientists, those sporting HEV suits will fight alongside Gordon. Some will even carry powerful weapons such as the Tau Cannon and the rocket launcher.
* FinalBoss: [[spoiler:Depending on which route Gordon takes, the bosses for the final fight will either be the Kingpin on Xen, or a giant probe on the Greys' mothership]].
* DoItYourselfThemeTune: The mod's themes were composed by Satou himself.
* EnergyWeapon : TheGreys favor energy weapons, to contrast with HECU's preference for ballistic weaponry.
* EyesDoNotBelongThere: At one point in [[spoiler:Xen]], [=McGinley=] finds himself in some sort of room full of eyes. [[spoiler:In order to break free he has to shoot all of them]].
* FlyingSaucer: TheGreys' [=UFOs=], naturally. [[spoiler:On the other hand, their mothership resembles a cigarette]].
* TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou / InterfaceScrew: [[spoiler:The Kingpin]] taunts [=McGinley=] ''and'' the player by barraging him with walls of text.

* GameBreakingBug:
** The mod crashes whenever the HD pack was installed. This doesn't seem to occur when played on Platform/{{Steam}} or [=Xash3D=] versions. Also, if the mod is played on [=Xash3D=], some scripts involving Gargantuas will not be activated, rendering it {{unwinnable}}.
** In Steam build of the engine some scripts can sometimes fail to start as well, seemingly for no reason. Considering how this mod loves to create artificial barriers controlled by scripts, it's certainly very easy to put the game in {{unwinnable}} state simply by walking along the path. This may or may not be caused by [[SaveScumming quick save abuse]], though.
* {{Gonk}}: All of the helmet (sans gas mask)-wearing HECU soldiers.
* GratuitousEnglish: One sign in the subway station features an {{animesque}} girl breaking out of her chains. A text above her says "girls not slave". Earlier, the words "Accident ago" appear on the screen.
* TheGreys: They appear as enemies, having lots and lots of hitpoints and equipped with a plasma rifle. If you're close enough, they'll punch you instead.
* HellishCopter: Not counting the Apache pursuing [=McGinley=] in the subway, one Apache crashes into {{Room 101}} after the HECU ambush party was slaughtered by him.
* HeroicMime: [=McGinley=], the aforementioned ActionGirl, Freeman (naturally), [[spoiler:and Shephard]].
* MadLibsDialogue: The HECU, naturally. [[spoiler:Averted in the mothership, where they talk in a natural manner, not unlike the allied marines from ''Opposing Force'']].
* MadnessMantra: See TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou.
* MeleeATrois: Black Mesa vs. HECU vs. Xen vs. TheGreys.
* MenAreGenericWomenAreSpecial: The [=HEV=]-clad scientist are treated fairly mundane. However the token ActionGirl in [=HEV=] suit is [[AllThereInTheManual immediately]][[WordOfGod branded]] as ''[[MysteriousWaif mysterious]]'', just because she is ... well, [[CaptainObvious a girl]].
* TheMonolith: Again, used to [[spoiler:complete the ''2001'' ShoutOut]].
* MoreDakka: The plasma rifle and the minigun, which packs ''even more'' dakka than the [=MP5=] or the [=F2000=].
* [[spoiler:TheMotherShip]]: [[spoiler:TheGreys have one]].
* MultipleEndings: [[spoiler:[=McGinley=] can either board one of the [=UFOs=], taking him to Greys' mothership, rescuing the HECU troops there ([[EnemyMine who, in turn, aid him]]), destroying it (and therefore the Grey invasion force and rescuing Shephard), or he can be abducted by one of the active [=UFOs=] which takes him to Xen where he fights the Kingpin (allowing the Greys to invade the Earth). Either way, [=McGinley=] will always end up on top of the tram boarded by both the G-Man and Freeman]].
* MusicSoothesTheSavageBeast: Near the end of the game, you're surrounded by a large horde of Xen aliens. However, when a nearby radio starts playing classical music, they are enthralled by it and ignore your presence (even if you attack them).
* NonIndicativeName: Nope, this mod is in no way "sweet" whatsoever.
* NoOSHACompliance: Surprisingly averted. Played straight with the train station near the laser test site [[spoiler:where [=McGinley=] rescues a bunch of scientists from the Greys]].
* PlotArmor: The Bradley [=McGinley=] fights near the heliport cannot be damaged by anything. [[spoiler:It was only destroyed after a Xen formation teleports and grows beneath it]].
* PlotTwist: [[spoiler:Black Mesa is really {{Area 51}}, if the [=UFOs=] and TheGreys are any indication]].
* PublicDomainSoundtrack: Antonio Vivaldi's L'estro armonico no. 3 and Music/AlsoSprachZarathustra.
* {{Room 101}}: [[spoiler:[=McGinley=] finds one in the fake generator room]].
* RuleOfCool: Exaggerated if you've installed [=R1chard=]'s UD pack.
* RunningGag: The Vortigaunts listening to Vivaldi's L'estro armonico no. 3.
* ScaryBlackMan: The minigun-wielding HECU sergeant, which serve as the mini-bosses on some levels where the HECU are the enemies.
* SemperFi: Initially subverted with the HECU. [[spoiler:Played straight once [=McGinley=] [[EnemyMine rescues them]]]].
* ShoutOut:
** [[spoiler:After destroying the Grey mothership]], the mod reenacts the last scenes of ''Film/TwoThousandOneASpaceOdyssey'', [[spoiler:with [=McGinley=] in Bowman's place.]]
** A [[WhatCouldHaveBeen scrapped]] UD pack turns TheGreys into the Martians from ''Film/MarsAttacks''.
* TanksForNothing: A destroyed HECU Abrams can be seen in Xen towards the end of the game along with its dead crew. [[spoiler:The Abrams aside, all of the Bradleys were destroyed by Xen lifeforms. Firing a rocket at them does nothing but annoy them]].
* UnintentionallyUnwinnable: [[spoiler:Missing just one of the tubes in the mothership denies you access to the reactor core. Worse yet, once you've activated an elevator, you can't go back.]]
* YouAllLookFamiliar: The Black Mesa HEV-wearing scientists, due to its reuse of the vanilla scientist head models. Subverted with the HECU marines, who now have 6 different heads.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: [[spoiler:[=McGinley=]'s ultimate and apparent fate, no matter the ending]].
