%%Let's set some ground rules for consistency, shall we?
%%
%%English names for everything, except to note name changes in the character entries (and in cases where we don't have English names yet).
%%Shorthand for the second game should be capitalized as mk2, not Mk2 or mk-2. For the third game, use Victory, not V, since the English name has been confirmed to use the former, and the Japanese title has both.
%%Do not call mk2 a sequel, except where it's the name of a trope. mk2 is a continuity reboot, and therefore not a sequel to anything.

A [[SurprisinglyImprovedSequel Surprisingly Improved ]]ContinuityReboot to ''VideoGame/HyperdimensionNeptunia'', and the second game of the ''{{Neptunia}}'' series.

The four goddesses and Nepgear are captured while trying to take down ASIC. Three years later, Nepgear is freed. She must now save her sisters and hopefully succeed at taking ASIC down this time.

But she doesn't have to go at it alone. Most[[note]]everyone except RED, since the company she represents was bought out between games[[/note]] of the cast from the original, plus several new additions, are there to support her.

Of course, this includes the younger sisters of the other goddesses, who are based on the handheld systems on the market at the time of this game's release, much like how Nepgear is based on the GameGear and how the goddesses are based on the home consoles on the market and the unreleased Sega Neptune.

A remake for the PSVita is slated for release in March 2014 in Japan, titled ''Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2: Sisters Generation''.

!!Tropes in Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2:
* AffablyEvil: The "more chivalrous than evil" CFW Brave. He is described as such, and offered to let Nepgear and Uni free before attacking when he found them in Endless Zone.
* AllJustADream: Noire and Kei both have dream sequences in which CFW Brave asks them for permission to marry Uni.
* AlternateUniverse: Honestly, just about everything has changed outside of the central premise. Even the world's structure and how the main characters met!
* AwesomeButImpractical: Superior Angels. What it does is that it hits all enemies for 9999 for 15 times. The downside? You need all four CPU Candidates at 100 AP and have at least 100 SP. The SP gaining isn't that bad, but in a game where later enemies do a OneHitKill on you, AP gaining isn't easy as it seems.
** The [=CPUs=]' DLC CombinationAttack Guardian Force also falls for this. It's arguably stronger and has a wider range but costs more SP; basically it's more awesome but also more impractical to use.
** Just even using HDD form is already impractical to use in this series thanks to the constant SP drain.
* {{BFG}}: Uni. Even more so when she becomes Black Sister.
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Kei Jinguji.
* BonusBoss: Tons in the coliseum, the hardest of them being [[spoiler: Delphinus.]]
* BoundAndGagged: Arfoire keeps the [=CPUs=] like this for three years. It's even the name of the trophy you get for viewing the CG image of them.
* BraggingRightsReward: Getting the accessory that allows you to break the damage limit. Why's that? [[spoiler: You only get this accessory as a rare drop from beating ''the highest leveled enemy'' of this game.]]
* CallingYourAttacks: You can't name your combos this time out, but the characters are more prone to shouting their attack names.
* CreatorCameo: When was the last time you've seen a creator of the game (or at least, have a hand in making the game aka Keiji Inafune) be there in person ''as a friggin summon''!?
* CurbStompBattle: CFW Magic delivers it to the four goddesses at the start of the game.
** The actual fight with [[spoiler:CFW Judge]] will end this way for either you or him. He is powerful enough to wipe out most of your team in a single turn, but just before the fight, Nepgear gets an extremely powerful new processor set and a GameBreaker skill called Celestial Severance. Your CPU Candidates also receive the Superior Angels skill shortly before entering the area, another ridiculously powerful skill. And to top it all off, everyone in your party begins the fight with a full 300 SP. So the fight is pretty much a race to see who will utterly annihilate the other first.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Definitely compared to the first. [[spoiler: The Conquest Ending takes it to {{Anvilicious}} levels.]]
* DarkestHour: Nepgear in the absurdly disturbing Conquest Ending. She actually takes her experiences pretty well, not completely reaching the DespairEventHorizon, particularly considering that she's being forced to [[spoiler:kill all of her friends--including two small children while they sob on each other and hold hands after their older sister was just stabbed to death--and her only living relative, along with practically every single person she's become friends with throughout the game, all in a last-ditch attempt to prevent a tragedy that she ultimately doesn't prevent, anyway.]]
* DatingSim: The [[LesYay Lily system.]] [[AgarestSenki Possible shout out to another game by Compile Heart.]]
* DecidedByOneVote: One side event has the [=CPUs=] holding an election to determine who is the most popular after Neptune and Nepgear put out an IdolSinger video that proves to be immensely popular. It appears to end in a Type 3 as Underling, who showed up just to mess with the whole thing, is pressured into voting by the bickering goddesses. [[spoiler:She ends up fleeing with the [=CPUs=] in pursuit.]]
* DesignatedProtagonistSyndrome: InUniverse. Vert lampshades this trope during the Idol Singer event.
-->"Since when were ''you'' the main character? it's common for the main character to become less popular than her peers."
* DownerEnding: [[spoiler:The Conquest Ending. See DarkestHour above and ShootTheShaggyDog[=/=]SuicideForOthersHappiness below.]]
* DuetBonding: When Neptune and Nepgear produce their IdolSinger video.
* [[spoiler: EldritchAbomination: CFW Arfoire. An imperfect revival indeed.]]
* EquipmentSpoiler: Trailers and screenshots sure love showing off [[spoiler: Nepgear's [[SwordOfPlotAdvancement Magic Sword]] in which you can only obtain after finishing with the Conquest End and start a NewGamePlus.]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Linda beats feet when CFW Magic [[spoiler:starts committing genocide in Arfoire's name.]]
* [[EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep Everyone Calls Her "Underling"]]: Linda receives this label from Nepgear and company, much to her dismay. Even Pirachu keeps calling her "Underling" despite multiple demands telling him not to, and to add insult to injury, the name above the text box every time she speaks is changed from "Linda" to "Underling."
* ExpositionFairy: Despite not being a sidekick, Histoire fulfills a similar role to this aside from being MissionControl. It helps that she looks like an actual fairy.
* FastballSpecial: [[spoiler: Neptune gets tossed by the three goddesses towards Nepgear in one of the endings.]]
* FightingYourFriend: [[spoiler:In the Conquest Ending.]]
* FiveManBand: Lampshaded by Nepgear and Nisa with the following party members.
** TheHero: Nepgear (though Nisa fancies herself as this)
** TheLancer: IF
** TheSmartGuy: Gust
** TheBigGuy: Nisa (again, Nepgear in Nisa's mind)
** TheChick: Compa
** SixthRanger: 5pb
* FunWithAcronyms: ASIC, which stands for '''A'''rfoire '''S'''yndicate of '''I'''nternational '''C'''rime.
** SADOLSMD is '''S'''ecurity '''a'''nd '''D'''efense '''O'''rganization '''L'''eanbox '''S'''pecial '''M'''ission '''D'''epartment.
* GameplayStorySegregation: When you get the lilac mk2 processor unit, Nepgear says she's become stronger but if you look at the stats for the lilac and lilac mk2 processor units, the lilac processor unit has higher stats than the lilac mk2.
* GiantMook: The Grandogoo.
* GottaKillThemAll: [[spoiler: The Conquest Ending route plot is this; yes you have to kill all the goddesses. Thank you Compile Heart...]]
* GratuitousEnglish: The EndingTheme has quite a bit of it.
* GrievousHarmWithABody: One of Nepgear's Skills has her use Keiji Inafune like a blade.
* HeadsIWinTailsYouLose: Even if you have your party pimped out with awesome equipment and doing fine against the first fight with CFW Magic, the game will still continue as if Nepgear and company are [[HopelessBossFight still getting owned by her.]]
** There's also the first battle against [[spoiler:a [[ThatOneBoss Killachine]]]]; even though the damn thing fades out via the standard enemy death animation, the party's dialogue goes on to reveal that it was too powerful for them.
* HammerSpace: "Don't ask where they hide their weapons."
* HeroesGoneFishing: One of Falcom's chirper events has her and Nepgear doing this.
* [[spoiler: HeroicSacrifice: In the normal endings, the four goddesses sacrifice their lives to destroy Arfoire for good. [[SubvertedTrope However]], [[SurprisinglyHappyEnding after Nepgear finishes her speech, the four goddesses turn out to be A-OK.]] ]]
* HoldYourHippogriffs: Ram: "We exercised so much I could eat a horsebird. I'm starving!"
* HotSpringsEpisode: What you will be rewarded when you get to Chapter 7. The trophy for this scene lampshades it.
* HumongousMecha: [[http://i54.tinypic.com/2v167o0.jpg One of the main villains]], named CFW Brave. Looks like a cross between ''GaoGaiGar'', [[{{Gravion}} Sol Gravion]], BraveExkaiser, [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Thrudgelmir]], and DancougarNova.
** [=CFWs=] Judge and [[{{Squick}} Trick]] are this as well, though CFW Brave happens to fit the bill the most.
* ItsAWonderfulFailure[=/=]KillEmAll: [[spoiler: The Conquest ending. See DarkestHour above and ShootTheShaggyDog[=/=]SuicideForOthersHappiness below.]]
* LethalLavaLand: Underverse is a dungeon found in a volcano, which is located south of Leanbox.
* MirrorMatch: The Coliseum includes some battles against copies of the playable characters. Some of these battles are unlocked through DLC.
* {{Mordor}}: The Gamindustri Graveyard. Bonus points for the [[http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110605024621/hyperdimensionneptunia/images/d/db/Graveyard.jpg ominous tower with an eye on it]].
* MultipleEndings: There are a lot of them.
* ObviousBeta: The [=DLCs=] fixed this though. Even without the DLC, mk2 is still not as bad as its predecessor in terms of being an Obvious Beta.
* ProductPlacement: One of Rom and Ram's staves outright state they're from Manga/CardcaptorSakura instead of the usual style of loosely describing it or using a fake, but similar sounding, name.
** Underling directly mentions the energy drink Powerthirst at one point.
** According to one of the Ramen Writer's Chirps, Noire's favorite kind of ramen is the microwaveable Cup Noodles from Nissin.
* RecursiveCanon: In one of her Chirps, Vert mentions requesting for Neptunia mk2 to be released for "[[{{Xbox360}} the Box]]."
* RedOniBlueOni: Ram and Rom, respectively.
* RuleOfSymbolism: How many fans interpreted the [[spoiler:Conquest Ending. Even if you end the ConsoleWars by having one Super Console that plays everything, piracy will always continue to exist. With only one super console, the industry will stall without competition. And a gaming world without competition will not improve and will fall apart sooner or later. It's even lampshaded by CFW Arfoire herself in that particular ending.]]
* ScrappyMechanic: InUniverse. Vert plays with this trope in one of her bonus voice tracks...
--> ''"I don't know who it was. But whoever invented the fatigue system must be judged a world-class terrorist."''
* ScriptedBattle: Your first boss fight in this game is against CFW Judge, and even if you unload Nepgear's most powerful attack at that point against him, it will only do zero damage.
* SdrawkcabName: One of Compa's skills from the DLC skill pack is called Traehelipmoc.
* SeeYouInHell: IF will sometimes say this whenever she kills an enemy.
** In the side event mentioned in DecidedByOneVote, Blanc says that she will follow Underling to hell for the vote that will make her the most popular of all the CPUs.
* SelfDeprecation: Keiji Inafune's cameo attacks. IF comments she only feels apathy from the sword form and remarks that she doesn't "want hipsters ironically enjoying [her] new attacks" and Nepgear herself comments that he's full of wrath and admits it's embarrassing to wield.
* ShootTheShaggyDog: [[spoiler: The Conquest Ending. Nepgear feeds the demon sword by killing ''all of the other [=CPUs=]'' with it, then destroys Arfoire with the fully powered sword. Arfoire, however, seems to take being defeated quite well, all things considered... The reason why is that, by having killed the other [=CPUs=], Nepgear has fated the world to have no competition, and therefore no progress. With no progress, Gamindustri will ultimately crumble, and Arfoire will then return to feast on the remains. The implications of this are that the [=CPUs=] all died, not to avert Gamindustri's end, but to make it inevitable. Thankfully, this is only one of Multiple Endings, so it is not strictly canon. But still...]]
* SingleStrokeBattle: Done as an AntiFrustrationFeature. Attacking enemies before the battle begins will typically just give you a slight initiative bonus. Attacking [[GoddamnBats enemies weaker]] than you before the battle begins will instead instantly kill them, permitting you to quickly work your way toward any [[BossInMooksClothing Dangerous Species]] you may need for a quest or just to finish a FetchQuest.
* SpellingSong: N.I.S!!
* StrangeMindsThinkAlike: In the True Ending, [[spoiler: Both Blanc and Vert think about the idea of giving one of the former's sisters to the latter.]]
* SuicideForOthersHappiness: During the Conquest Ending, [[spoiler:most of the CPU Candidates voluntarily let you kill them after their CPU sisters force Nepgear to kill them. Uni gets a special mention, as she says she wants to die because her older sister is already dead, so she has nothing left to live for except her sister's dying words of hope that Gamindustri can be saved, which requires that Uni allows herself to be killed by Nepgear. Neptune plays this straight, smiling and stating simply that Nepgear has to kill her or all of their efforts until then will be for nothing.]]
* SwordOfPlotAdvancement: The [[spoiler: Magic Sword found only in the Conquest End.]] [[PlayerPunch Have fun obtaining it.]]
* TakeThat: It happens [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQ9Km7WW2aE here with the four goddesses arguments over consoles]].
* TurnsRed: Comes in a few different ways, the most common being Viral Monsters. This change happens randomly, but will [[TheCorruption occur more often if one enemy of that type has already changed during the fight]]. Certain monsters may also [[CannibalismSuperpower consume each other to reach this effect]], the earliest a player is likely to see is Horsebirds eating Radishers to become Horsebird Leaders, which are literally just red Horsebirds.
* TheWarOnStraw: Straw digital pirates.
* UnskilledButStrong: The four goddesses. To put it in a nutshell, they have very few skills despite having the best stats of the whole team. DLC fixed this by turning them all into [[GameBreaker Game Breakers]].
* UnsoundEffect: A few instances such as when Nepgear and co. beat up Underling for laying waste to Leanbox (Bitch slap!) and also when Underling thrashes Nepgear and Uni at LAN Castle. (Backhand! Stars and stripes!)
* WhatAnIdiot: InUniverse. Really Chika, you [[spoiler:book a boy band (Let alone [[CampGay a homosexual one]]) to perform in front of a [[PeripheryHatedom crowd that nearly consists of only straight males?]]]] [[SarcasmMode Yeah, can't see that going wrong]].
