Broforce is an indie platformer game that received its full launch on October 15th 2015. Despite its self-parodying Eagleland Brogleland PatrioticFervor, it is in fact created by South African indie game developer Free Lives and published by Creator/DevolverDigital.

The destructible levels may be reminiscent of games such as VideoGame/Spelunky, however, unlike a typical Metroidvania which encourages caution and conservation of resources, this is a homage to classic shooters in the vein of VideoGame/Contra or VideoGame/MetalSlug. As such, the obvious solution to any and all problems and obstacles is Bro Dakka and Stuff Broing Up.

The characters are all Lawyer Friendly Camebros of classic action movie and television heroes, mostly from the 80-90s era, (although a couple come from the 70s, and some come from the 2000's) and with their names featuring various puns on "bro". The website can be found here.

On August 5th 2014, a bro (free) version of the game based on Film/TheExpendables3 was released on Steam, titled The Expendabros. It can be found here.

On November 18th 2022, a new update called "Broforce Forever" was announced. It will feature new Bros and missions. See the teaser trailer here. It was released on August 8th 2023.

----
!!Brovides examples of the following bropes:

* The90s: The game is set in 1993, as evidenced from .
* ActionBomb: There are multiple enemies that use this tactic:
** Suicidal Mooks, enemies with dynamite vests that run at the player, are the first encountered instance of this trope.
** Two aliens, Screechers and Banelings, are a more dangerous reskin of the Suicidal Mook. They attack the player by dive-bombing them or rolling at them at high speeds, respectively.
** There are multiple demons that fit this role. The first, Engorged Mooks, behave similarly to Suicidal Mooks but can throw themselves in the air. Lost Souls are similar to Screechers, but can track the player mid-fight and accelerate very quickly. Soul Catchers are large zombies that explode upon nearing the player, but the catch is that they explode into five Lost Souls.
** Macbrover will, if ordered to throw dynamite (his standard attack) when within knifing range of an enemy, stick it on the enemy instead, and the mook will proceed to run around until he blows up. He will also automatically stick dynamite to any mook that he throws.
** The Brodator, if killed without his corpse being gibbed, he will activate a self-destruct sequence that will attract mooks before exploding.
* ActionGirl: Ellen Ripbro, Cherry Broling, The Brode, and Tank Bro. Coming in as an assist, there's also little Brotilda. Forever adds Xebro and Broffy.
* AdaptationalBadass: All of the bros, given that none of them engaged on the downright ridiculous levels of slaughter this game displays in their source material. The most evident examples are B.A. Broracus, since B.A Baracus didn't kill Mooks despite participating in an ATeamFiring occasional firefight and MacBrover since [=MacGyver=] was a TechnicalPacifist in the series (although he does make a lot of explosives).
* AdaptationalCurves: Every Bro is portrayed as being obscenely muscular, regardless of the build of the original character. Bro in Black and Cherry Broling can flex with the same intensity as Bronan, for example.
* AdaptationalNationality: All of the Bros, regardless of their source material, are wholly patriotic and dedicated to the United States. Special notice goes to Bro Heart, who, despite being based on an actual Scottish historical figure, has a special attack consisting of screaming the American flag.
* AdaptationalWeaponSwap: Many bros, particularly those added early on, feature weapons that their original likenesses didn't use. Some examples include B.A. Broracus using a flamethrower and Dirty Brorry throwing molotov cocktails.
* AdvancingBossOfDoom: The Megacockter, which must be evaded for the first half of its stage and then hit with propane tanks in the second half.
** There's also the Terror Krawler, which periodically tears up the scenery in the second to last level of one of the stages and then the last level before being fought.
** The Deathfield, . You can't fight it, you have to just run.
* AffectionateParody: The game's director, Evan Greenwood, is an admitted fan of action films from the 1980s and 1990s. He called Broforce a "loving portrayal of action heroes."
* AlienBlood: The alien enemies, as well as the Brodator, bleed green blood. Most of the former even bleed acid, which can eat through terrain and Bros alike.
* AmbidextrousSprite: Bros such as Ash and Cherry tend to suffer from this.
* TheAhnold: Most of the Bros are affectionate parodies of 80s action heroes. Brommando, The Brominator, Bronan, and Trent Broser in The Expendabros are all modeled directly after characters Schwarzenegger himself played.
* AmericaSavesTheDay: Exaggerated. The heroes are an American military organization who are completely convinced that saving the world from terrorists requires them to fill basically every single body and patch of land with bullets, knife blades, and explosive stuff. And given the situation, they're right!
* AndNowForSomeoneCompletelyDifferent: This game takes this to ludicrous levels. Every time you start a level, rescue a prisoner, or lose a life, you'll play as any character you have currently unlocked, chosen randomly by the game.
* AndShowItToYou: Brochete's melee attack has him disembowel Mooks with his bare hands. Enemies that witness this will scream and run away.
* AntiFrustrationFeatures: Save for a few special attacks, any of your weapons--specifically ones that explode--will not harm you or your allies, so feel free to fire that rocket launcher willy-nilly. Just be careful when doing it around support struts, falling blocks or exploding barrels.
** You cannot pick up ammo crates when your specials are already full. Thus, preventing accidental unnecessary pickups and leaving them for you to come back to later when you do run out.
** If you end up stuck in an alcove under an overhang that prevents you from climbing up the wall, the devs got you covered. A special jump automatically occurs when you jump towards a corner from underneath, where your character grabs onto the offending corner and performs a high somersault diagonally outward, letting you bypass the overhang easily.
** Even if you GameOver, your number of rescues carry over. Therefore it's possible to unlock all the characters as early as the first stage if you take your time saving hostages and dying over and over again.
** The only things that can kill a rescuable character is either having a block falling on top of him or falling in a bottomless pit. Otherwise, being shot, caught on explosions or falling from a huge height won't harm him, so your extra life (and potential character unlock) is safe.
** The Terrorcopter's wings double as platforms. This gives your melee Bros a place to attack the cockpit from, provided you can land on them and not the Terrorcopter's rotor.
** When your current Bro dies, there is a short window of time before the next Bro spawns or the mission fails, in which his corpse will still trigger checkpoints and rescues. Bros rescued during this time will still grant the OneUp and take over as the player character, even if their deceased predecessor was the player's last life.
* ArtificialBrilliance: The binocular-wearing mooks can spot your bro from a distance and can order a large number of enemies to your exact position to fill you full of lead.
** This turns into ArtificialStupidity when combined with the kamikaze mooks, as detailed below.
** The hovercraft's second missile attack isn't just a preset pattern- it leads your character quite accurately and is a pain to dodge.
* ArtificialStupidity: The player characters can survive falling from any height. The terrorists cannot. That doesn't stop dogs and kamikaze terrorists from charging headlong off cliffs to their deaths.
** When alerted to the player's position via the binocular-mooks mentioned above, the kamikaze mooks will immediately light their fuses, regardless of how far they are from the player or how close they are to their allies.
** If Macbrover or Bronnar stick an enemy with an explosive, said enemy will run away, often into groups of their own allies. Exaggerated with the kamikaze mooks, who will still run away, despite being covered in lit dynamite to begin with.
** The CPU controlled partner suffers from this as well. It seems to have three settings: LeeroyJenkins, throwing all its grenades (often killing you in the process), and standing still after you die, forcing you to restart the level.
* ArtisticLicenseGeography: Though the campaign levels take place all over the world according to the world map, most above-ground levels resemble either the jungles of Vietnam or deciduous Canada.
** One covert mission sends Indiana Brones treasure hunting on a large, Australia-shaped landmass in the southern hemisphere that the general claims is Austria.
* AscendedGlitch: A few levels feature pigs, passive creatures that serve little purpose outside of being shot. Standing on a pig and performing certain melee attacks, however, will send the pig (and Bro) soaring into the air, which can be repeated indefinitely. The developers enjoyed the glitch, dubbed "pig surfing", and left it in. In one of the game's final cutscenes, Brommando can be seen using the technique to OutrunTheFireball.
* AttackDeflector: Brade's katana, Ash's chainsaw special (while charging forward), Max's bromerang and Bro Heart's claymore (when thrown) are able to reflect bullets. In fact, nearly all of the melee-oriented Bros can reflect projectiles (including rockets) with a well-timed standard attack. The exception to this is Mr. Anderbro, who can reflect projectiles en masse with his special.
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: In the Hard difficulty ending
* AutobotsRockOut: AREA LIBERATED *cue guitars*
* AwardBaitSong: The Ballad of Rambro.
** And it worked!
* AwesomeButImpractical: Indiana Brones, Cherry Broling, Macbrover and James Broddock are often seen as this due to their unwieldy attacks. Subverted in that they all also qualify as DifficultButAwesome.
** Let's explain: For a long time Cherry Broling had the advantage of being able to shoot downwards and potentially fly over squads of enemies by using her bullets as a propeller. But it was also the only direction in which she could shoot. Fortunately, by crouching she can now aim her machine gun leg straight ahead and fire bullets or rockets that way. Even so, the fact that she has to stop moving and then crouch in order to shoot can mean the difference between life and death, and it means you have to plan out her attack on mooks in ways you don't need to with other characters.
** Macbrover tosses packages of dynamite which can stick to and blow up enemies, but which only go a short distance. This leaves him in a difficult position against foes outside his throwing range. Fortunately, he has the ability to stick that dynamite to walls and other areas, so you can do tricks like stick it an area directly beneath where a mook is standing, and let him get blown up without a chance to defend himself. Also, Macbrover's special (a turkey stuffed with explosives) will attract the attention of mooks from quite some distance away and they will ignore you, so you can throw his special and then run through an enemy filled area without resistance until the explosives go off.
** Brominator's Minigun has the highest DPS in the game, regular mooks barely even have to touch the stream of lead, and only bosses last more than a single second. It also has enough recoil that after a few moments, it becomes impossible to move forwards while firing, meaning he has to either fire in bursts (With spinup delay inbetween them), or turn around and let the recoil do the walking for you, hurling the MightyGlacier Brominator at speeds well in excess of those any other bro can achieve. Oh, and you still have that Minigun. Just turn around for a brief moment or simply zoom past and let your trail of lead take care of things.
** Broddock uses a grenade launcher as his regular weapon and a cluster bomb as his special. Great, except for the fact that both can be difficult to aim, may need several seconds to go off after hitting the ground (or go off in the air if they're being shot through enough air), and can result in destroying too much of the turf for you to be able to proceed. Oh, and for a long time his cluster bomb special was one of the few attacks that can backfire and kill your character, although that has since been fixed.
** Brocketeer has great jumping abilities due to his jetpack, which can also deal minor damage and light enemies on fire. His primary weapon, however, is very weak. Finally, his special attack involves doing a small vertical jump followed by smashing head-first diagonally downward. Compared to, say, Bronan's special attack, its range isn't very impressive, and doesn't make him invincible for the duration. However, anything he lands on when using his special is sure to be blown into tiny chunks, and he has six of them. In addition, his melee attack received a significant boost in damage and range, giving him a reliable means of damage.
** Tank Bro is already shaping up to be this, due to her rocket launcher. While it's arguably the most powerful primary weapon of the game so far, able to one-shot Bruisers, turrets, sawblade launchers and the like, it's also the most destructive. The rockets' explosions can take out 9x9-block-sized holes in the environment whether you want them to or not, easily converting straightforward level designs into your own personal PlatformHell if you're not careful. In fact, Tank Bro's tank has the potential to be less destructive than Tank Bro herself, as the tank's projectiles produce more standardized explosions.
* BackToBackBadasses: Up to four players can kick ass at one time. Actually Trope, as the game can provide an AI partner if no one else will play.
* BadassesWearBandanas: Rambro, naturally. Villagers, if interacted with, will strap on an assault rifle and bandana before going on a rampage.
** Col. James Broddock also wears a bandana.
* BadassCrew: Every member of Broforce is a one-man (or woman) army.
* BadassInANiceSuit: Bro In Black and Double Bro Seven. Forever adds The Desperabro.
* BadassInDistress: Many Bros start as hostages, but, once you rescue them, you get to kick ass as them.
* BandOfBrothers: WordOfGod says that a Bro will never turn his (or her) back on a Bro in need. In fact, a major gameplay element is rescuing Bros who have been captured by the enemy. The theme song directly calls them "an unbreakable force of Bros".
** Can be Subverted at the end of a level, as the rescue chopper immediately leaves as soon as a single Bro touches the ladder. Any players or hostages not on board are left behind on the exploding land mass.
* BarbarianHero: Bronan the Brobarian and Broheart.
%%* BashBrothers: The Boondock Bros.
* BattleBoomerang: Bro Max's special is a single bromerang, which can decapitate enemies and be picked up and reused. Xebro in Forever's chakram works in a similar way.
* BattleTrophy: During credits, a wall of trophies is shown. Some of the trophies are recognizable parts of bosses such as megacockter's minigun. Others are enemy body parts, still bleeding.
* BeatingADeadPlayer: Inverted. You can attack an enemy's corpse until they explode or you get bored.
** Originally, the players could crouch in front of corpses to make them flop up and down. This was eventually patched out, however an absurdly long cheat code ([[spoiler:Type "[=IThinkPuttingMyTesticalsInSomeoneElseFaceWithoutTheirConsentIsOkay=]" on the main menu]]) reintroduces this function until the game is closed.
* BFG: Tank Bro's rocket launcher. It is the slowest primary weapon in the game, but it can obliterate half of the screen in only one shot. The Brominator's Minigun goes to the opposite end of the scale, it's per-shot damage is only average, but fires so fast it basically deletes everything that isn't a boss in a split second, and can kill most bosses nearly as fast.
* BFS: Bro Heart's Claymore qualifies. Any other melee weapon has only a range of 1 block, said Claymore has a range of 2. And can hit both above and in front of Bro Heart. Bronan's sword is also pretty big, and swings hard enough to cause RazorWind, effectively increasing it's range.
** Bro Heart's sword can be better appreciated in his unlock screen.
* BigBad: Satan himself.
* BigGood: Nelson Brodela, according to the game's page. In the actual game, the President of the United States (who may or may not be Bill Clinton)
** The Broforce itself also qualifies; while their Colonel can come up with flimsy or outright petty reasons for invading a country, it should be noted that the Bros never harm any civilians, and that the countries they invade have already been invaded by Satan himself, with the Bros' mission being to actually liberate the coutry from those evil forces rather than conquer it for selfish gains. As a result, the Broforce can be seen as an unambiguous force of Good fighting against an unambiguous force of Evil.
* BigNo: One of the game over screens is a BigNo, which occurs after dying three times on one level.
** The current incarnation of the BigNo is so big, it actually lasts well into the player restarting the level.
* BigYes: A big "OH HELL YEAH!" is delivered at the beginning of the Expendabros launch trailer. A less intense, but still energetic "Oh yeah!" can be delivered if the player completes a level after getting multiple Game Overs.
* BlackAndWhiteMorality: There is no moral ambiguity in this game. The Bros are unquestionably the good guys, while the terrorists, the aliens and the demons are unambiguously bad.
* TheBladeAlwaysLandsPointyEndIn: Averted for Bro Heart. The game actually takes how the sword lands into account when you throw it, and if it doesn't land blade-in, it's bouncing straight off. Luckily, regardless of if it's embedded or not, the sword will still reflect enemy fire.
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: The Brodator uses one as his melee attack, which skins anyone killed with it and hangs them from the ceiling. The Freedom Update gave Brobocop one of these, as well.
* BlatantLies: In the Covert Ops levels you can unlock certain powerups. One of those are definitely "vitaminz". Not steroids at all.
** The announcer doesn't even attempt to hide it in the Lightning Strikes Twice trailer. He loudly exclaims "PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS!" despite the word "VITAMINS" flashing onscreen.
* BlindedByTheLight: The special attacks of Bro Hard and Bro in Black done with a flashbang and a with Neuralyzer respectively.
* BloodMagic: In Hell, end of level portals and certain traps (watch out for blocks with a pentagram beneath ominous looking statues) are powered up by, you guessed it, blood.
* BloodyHilarious: Where to begin? For example, performing a headshot on a standard mook has him running around like a literal headless chicken, squirting blood all over the place. Not to mention there's also LudicrousGibs galore...
* BloodKnight: The colonel on the level select screen seemingly makes up excuses to attack countries on the fly, becoming increasingly petty and nonsensical as the game goes on. His given reasons range from a country "probably" hating the concept of liberty, to a nation claiming that Broforce can't locate them on a map. Given, however, that seemingly every country on the planet has been invaded by terrorists, aliens, or both, Broforce's overwhelming firepower and enthusiasm for blowing everything up is ultimately to the Earth's benefit.
* BlownAcrossTheRoom: Best done by Brochete's, Bro Max's, Broniversal Soldier's and The Brodator's primary attacks.
* BoomHeadshot: Yes, even with the game's small pixelated sprites, this is possible. If a bullet (or a particularly powerful punch) manages to hit square on a mook's head, it'll pop off gloriously while the body flails about shortly before perishing. However, this will only work on normal and big mooks.
* BoringButPractical:
** Rambro is basically this. Rather than a flaming shotgun or exploding punches, he simply has a standard machine gun with decent range, and hand grenades. As a result, he has a practical, if simple, solution to almost every problem.
** In a game where a standard ability is using a gatling gun to fly, the combat knife is obviously this. It's really short range, but it does good damage (strong enough to one-shot standard mooks, a feat comparable to the rocket launcher, shotgun, and sword), can hitstun the giant mooks and is quite useful against tanks and the first boss, considering you'll be too close for the tank to shoot you easily. In addition, knife might be preferrable in situations where main weapons might cause too much terrain to be destroyed. The Freedom Update gave most of the characters more fitting melee attacks, making many of them less boring, but still practical.
** The entire Brototype, including the final boss, can be beaten using just the combat knife and the secondary fire, without ever firing a normal shot.
* BossSubtitles: The Freedom Update added these, probably as a ShoutOut to VideoGame/Borderlands.
* BottomlessMagazines: Both the bros and enemies never run out of ammo for primary weapons and never need to reload. Subverted with the bros' special attacks, which are quite scarce and can only be refilled by ammo crates.
** Zig-zagged with Dirty Brorry. He has infinite ammo for his Magnum, but has to reload every 6 shots.
* BottomlessPits: Falling off the screen is deadly.
* CallingYourAttacks: According to WordOfGod, Broden's special attack is literally named 'Shalibabayee', which is approximately what he shouts while using it.
* CastOfExpies: Every playable character is based off of a famous fictional action hero.
* ChainLightning: Ellen Ripbro, Broden, and the Brolander can all deal electric damage. If an enemy or corpse is pumped full of enough electricity, they'll explode...dealing more electric damage.
* ChainsawGood: Ash's special attack causes him to charge in with a chainsaw and cut down everything in his path. He's even bulletproof (from the front) while doing this, as projectiles are reflected back by the chainsaw. His melee attack has him stab forward with the chainsaw, which is unwieldy, but deals massive damage and causes nearby enemies to run away in fear.
* ChargedAttack: A few characters that have one as their primary attacks:
** Brobocop can charge up his Auto-9 by holding down the primary fire button. When fully charged, he will flood the screen with bullets.
** Bronan can likewise charge up his sword. It will flash and emit a sound when fully charged. Upon releasing the full charge, the sword will unleash a powerful shockwave.
** The Brodator's throwing spears can be rapidly thrown. Charging one for a second, however, increases its damage, range, speed, and lets it impale up to four enemies at once.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: The Bruisers, hulking monstrosities that they are which dwarf even the impossibly ripped Bros, apparently achieved their physiques through nothing more than good old fashioned pumping iron, as their intro card proclaims them to be "the pinnacle of Terrorist gymnasium technology."
* CheckPoint: The flagpoles act as this, and when you touch one, you raise an American flag. FUCK YEAH!. There are two types of checkpoints. Normal ones ac as a respawn point while large ones save the progress in case all lives are lost.
* CherryTapping:
** If something can be killed, it can be killed with the melee attack. Certain "terrain-based" bosses were once immune to the knife, as it dealt no damage to terrain, but this was eventually fixed.
** Basic mooks can be killed by hitting them with a door while opening it or tossing them off a smaller ledge.
** Double Bro Seven's first special has him sip from a martini glass before throwing it. Though slow and short-ranged, the thrown glass does deal a small amount of damage, enough to kill a basic Mook. There's an achievement for doing this.
** Most grenades, as well, in addition to their regular effects, deal a small amount of damage if they hit an enemy in the head. This means that the player can theoretically kill enemies even with Bro Hard's "nonlethal" flash grenade.
* ChestBurster: Well, with enemies that are basically an Expy of the Xenomorphs from Franchise/Alien this is to be expected. If a Bro or a Mooks terrorist is grabbed by a facehugger, they'll die and a full grown alien will burst from the body in a matter of seconds. Fortunately, facehuggers can be shot off their victim's heads, saving them from this fate (though they'll usually just be killed anyway by whatever's shooting at them). Certain Bros also have abilities that will kill facehuggers trying to mate with them, such as the lightning from Broden's primary attack and the Brocketeer's headfirst GroundPound secondary.
* ChunkySalsaRule
** The Broniversal Soldier can resurrect fallen bros or Mooks with his special... unless they've been reduced to LudicrousGibs.
** When playing as The Brolander it won't matter how many special charges you've stored, if you blow up into pieces you will lose that life.
** Also, the best way to prevent undead mooks from "reviving" is to reduce them to giblets.
* ClintSquint: Dirty Brorry's avatar portait looks like he's perpetually with his eyes closed. Well, he's based on Creator/ClintEastwood, after all.
* ColonelBadass: Col. James Broddock. Oddly enough, he's the only character who comes from a military background in his source material whose rank is mentioned in this game.
* CombatMedic: The Broniversal Soldier is this game's equivalent to one, as he is able to resurrect dead players in co-op (as long as they haven't been blown to pieces) while slaughtering Mooks terrorists at the same time.
* CompensatingForSomething: The Megacockter. It’s a massive helicopter, with an equally massive gatling gun that has 2 ball-like projection hanging off the bottom. Even the boss subtitles get in on the action!
-->Megacockter SUCK ON MY CHAINGUN, BROS\\
OVERCOMPENSATE MUCH?
* ConfusedQuestionMark: Confusing enemies causes them to have question marks over their head.
* CoolShades: Brade, Bro In Black, Mr. Anderbro and The Brofessional wear these. Also, MacBrover wears them in his unlock screen.
* CoresAndTurretsBoss: Rail Fortress is a boss consisting six missile turrets and screen as a core. Destroying the screen defeats the boss.
* CowardlyMooks:
** The mooks aren't normally this, but certain actions like tossing a grenade at their feet, attacking with a flamethrower or chainsaw, or certain terrifying melee attacks, will cause any nearby mooks who see it to run for the hills. If they get far enough away from you, however, they will simply turn around and shoot you.
** Shield mooks are unarmed mooks who simply stand around with a bulletproof shield and try to protect other mooks. If you manage to destroy the shield without killing them, it leaves them weaponless and defenseless in the middle of a war zone. From that point on, whenever they hear any sound of gunfire, explosions, etc., they'll do a GirlyScream and run around in a panic for a bit.
* CrateExpectations: The levels are full of crates. The most common are small wooden ones. Marked crates contain supplies. Crates of all sizes can crush small enemies.
* CrisisCrossover: Essentially, though not much of a story is here. Action heroes coming together for no explained reason other than RuleOfCool still works.
* CrosshairAware:
** Played straight with enemy airstrikes and alien sandworms' acid spit where the projectile landing location is marked with an X.
** Trope with two bros. By using Brobocop's or The Brofessional's special attacks, it is the player who marks the enemies with crosshairs.
* DeathFromAbove: Airstrikes randomly appear in several levels, first visible as a series of red crosses and lines to let you know to get out of the way fast.
** Brodell Walker's special is a similar airstrike, calling down four missiles in a cluster. Notably, it is one of the few specials that does damage to the user, so it's really easy to be accidentally blow yourself up.
** Cherry's default weapon, her machine gun leg, functions almost identically to Rambro's weapon... except it can be fired straight down, and firing it gives her a boost into the air, while mooks can only shoot straight ahead, not up. The same goes for her special, which fires an explosive below her.
* DemBones: One of the bosses is Bone Wurm: a demonic skeletal snake that shoots out lost souls.
* DenialOfDiagonalAttack: With some exceptions, most bros (and fortunately, enemies) can only shoot their primary weapons left or right. Can be circumvented via special attacks, using the bros' innate mobility skills or using the destructible terrain to your advantage.
* DestructiveSaviour: Every terrorist hideout/ alien hive /demonic temple is blown off the face of the earth when you leave via helicopter.
--> Area Liberated!
* DevelopersForesight: It's possible to blow up the level end helicopter while taking off.
** Speaking of helicopters - see all the birds in the campaign flyover map? If you hit them with your helicopter's blades, they'll splatter in a puff of feathers and gore - just ForTheEvulz.
** Tank Bro's tank is normally summoned via an airdrop. But if you attempt to summon it in an underground level, the tank will drive in from offscreen, busting through anything in its path. Although, summoning it this way will cost it one of its dashing specials. Unfortunately, Brodell Walker's airstrike and the standard mech-summoning power-up do not have this luxury and remain useless in underground levels.
** Normally, touching a helicopter's rotor results in an instant HelicopterBlender. However, doing so with Brominator while he's invincible will instead instantly bring the chopper crashing to earth. This also works as an EasyLevelTrick to kill the Terrorcopter.
* TheDevilIsALoser: Along with commanding a Mooks mostly-incompetent group of terrorists, the devil found at the end of each level poses no actual threat to the players, simply cackling instead of attacking. He is as easy to kill as a regular Mook, and any attack that he survives will cause him to emit a girly scream and run away.
** In Hell, however, Satan shows his true colors, becoming the ultimate BigBad of the game, with a whopping four forms to go through before you can kick his ass.
* DisasterDominoes: Easily possible, via the liberal use of explosives. The levels are often filled with explosives and crumbling architecture in a manner where long chain reactions are possible.
* DiscardAndDraw: Every one up changes your bro. This forces you to adapt to whatever situation you may face depending on the bro you're playing as at any given time, and is arguably half of the fun.
* DifficultButAwesome:
** Indiana Brones may not have the same awesome guns as most other characters, but his whip can stunlock enemies, and he can skip many obstacles completely using his grapple ability. Unlike most other weapons in the game, his whip deals more damage at long range, instead of less. This, combined with the fact that the whip was unable to deal terrain damage for a long time (he's got a pickaxe for that), often leads to the misconception that his whip deals little to no damage, which is only true at close range.
** Macbrover, James Broddock and Tank Bro have movesets entirely consisting of explosives. Though their attacks are powerful, they are difficult to aim precisely. Thus, firing away with reckless abandon will result in a lot more collateral damage compared to many of the other characters. Used wisely, however, they can clear entire rooms with only one or two attacks.
*** Macbrover's solo mission to unlock the [=RC=] Car Bombs highlight his strategy. While you can lob bombs and hope for the best it's better if you learn the physics of the bombs' throws, use stealth to place bombs to take out bruisers before they know you're there, and use the bombs' sticking ability to take out binocular terrorists and bruisers before they become a very real threat.
** Cherry's running speed is slower than the other Bros due to her machine-gun leg. However, her attacks also propel her into the air. This allows her to shoot enemies without fear of counter-attack (as most enemies cannot shoot up), and can even let her make jumps that would be impossible for most Bros. Notably she can make short work of the alien worm bosses, as they're very clumsy while attacking upward and she can avoid the damage while dealing massive amounts of it herself as she hovers above the boss.
** The Brominator's minigun is disgustingly powerful, being able to kill anything short of a boss in a single second, and shredding through bosses at a brutal pace. It's recoil however, quickly overcomes Brominator's ability to keep moving forward, combined with it's spinup, this makes it a very unwieldy weapon unless one stops fighting it's recoil and lets it work for them, turning Brominator into the fastest Bro while keeping his obscene damage output and invulnerability secondary.
** Bro Heart's claymore has great damage and range, and his special is nothing short of awesome. His slow swing speed, however, results in his actual damage output not being particularly impressive compared to the other melee Bros when he's not using his special. His melee attack throws his sword, dealing a reasonable amount of damage in a straight line. Originally, this left him with just two inefficient punching attacks, and gave him no assistance against distant enemies or ranged attacks (unlike the other Melee Bros). An update, however, increased his punching damage, and gave his sword the ability to reflect bullets, even when sticking out of the ground. So, while throwing his sword is risky, timing it well can form a shield that reflects enemies' bullets back at them.
** The Brolander starts out with no uses for his special, and very sluggish movement speed (on par with Cherry Broling). Being a melee character, this makes him vulnerable at first. Once he has claimed a few heads and gained some charges for his special, he becomes a near invincible force of nature.
** In the light of Snake Broskin's July 2016 retool, Dirty Brorry has inherited Snake's mechanic of packing a gun with an incredibly long range and high-damaging bullets. Although, Brorry can only shoot six shots before he has to take a second to automatically reload, which can leave you vulnerable in the most desperate of times unless you--like Dirty Harry himself--count your bullets.
** Tank Bro's tank is slow, huge, and cannot cling to walls, but it does have two different guns--one shoots high and one shoots forward--that can be toggled with the special button, a limited-use dash special (used via the dash button or double-tapping a direction) that lets it blow through terrain and enemies and also allows it to make longer jumps, and durability that lets it repel bullets and resist explosions. Depending on the circumstances, the tank can either complicate an otherwise simple level or trivialize potentially frustrating levels.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Though the terrorists give Broforce plenty of legitimate reasons to invade them, the Colonel's justification for each level becomes more and more ridiculous as the game goes on.
-->Colonel: THIS IS IRAKISTAN. THEY SAID I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO LOCATE THEM ON A MAP. AMERICANIZE THEM!
* TheDividual: The Boondock Bros are considered a single character, despite them being two people. (Three if you count their special summoning their father, although you don't have direct control over him.) Interestingly, it's impossible for both brothers to die at the same time, (when one dies the other briefly becomes invincible and TurnsRed) so players can get a lot of mileage and extra lives out of using that invincibility period to bring the fallen brother back to life with their special.
* DoubleJump: Air flex allows every bro to gain a second jump during flexing.
* DownerEnding: An alternate ending gained by .
* DrillTank: In some levels, Drilling-Mook-Depositors start emerging from the bottom of the screen to drop regular mooks once they reach the surface.
* DungeonBypass: Players can skip large portions of a level by digging through terrain or by using Indiana Brones and his whip. Mr. Anderbro, Bronan, and the Brode all have leaping techniques that can be used to bypass several obstacles.
** Or, you could just fly using the Brominator's minigun.
** Propane tanks, which fly in the direction they're facing when shot, can be stood on. If said tank happens to be horizontal, the player can leap across the map, as the momentum from the tank is maintained until the character stops moving. Just be sure to jump off before it explodes.
** The flying pig bug, allowing the player to fly by repeatedly knifing a pig they're standing on, also allows this.
** Cherry Broling, thanks to her machine-gun leg and rockets, can bypass many levels in less than a minute if used right.
** The "Afrika" levels are particularly bad for this, as they're subterranean, and so you can just dig your way to the end from certain positions.
** The Covert Operation in Japan is supposed to be done by hijacking a mech and rampaging through the level. However, Snake is one of the bros who appears, and can cross the gaps the player would normally need the mech's jump jets for with his wingsuit.
* Eagleland: The game has shades of both types. On one hand, Broforce are invariably portrayed as the good guys, are awarded medals and honor, and held a parade for at the end of the game. On the other hand, the Colonel's mission statement for one area sums up the Boorish side quite nicely.
-->Colonel: THE PEOPLE FROM THIS COUNTRY LOOK, SPEAK, AND ACT DIFFERENTLY TO US. LET'S MOVE FAST, BROS!
** In fairness, the "people" they are referring to are literally terrorists and Satan.
* EnergyWeapon: One of Double Bro Seven's special is a laser beam fired from his wristwatch that sweeps through half of the screen, doing massive damage to terrain and igniting mooks on fire. Time Bro's gun fires these in short bursts, as well.
* EightiesHair: MacBrover and Time Bro sport magnificent mullets visible even with this game's pixel graphics.
* ElementalPunch: Brolander's melee attack has electric properties, causing slain enemies to explode into ChainLightning. Due to the way the damage is calculated, however, punching regular Mooks usually just knocks them back without dealing any damage. If he has at least one charge of his special, however, his punch inexplicably deals enough damage to instantly defeat any enemy affected by it, including the first two forms of the final boss.
* EscapeSequence: First part of the fight against megacockter involves the player climbing a tower to get away from the boss' minigun.
* EverythingBreaks: With the exception of steel blocks (in the main campaign, found only in the terrain under checkpoints or zipline posts), every single bit of terrain is destructible.
* ExplodingBarrels: Levels are full of barrels that explode upon being damaged. There are two varieties: Red ones explode immediately and white ones explode after a short delay. Both explode after falling.
* Expy: Pretty much every major character is an expy of a character from some famous action flick.
* EyepatchOfPower: Snake Broskin, of course. Hell, the character he's based on even provides the picture for the trope! Broniversal Soldier's camera/comm device also counts.
* FacelessGoons: Almost all the terrorists wear masks. Warlocks in hell chapter also have obscured faces.
* FascinatingEyebrow: The Brofessional has this as his default expression. Dirty Brorry also gives one while firing his gun.
* FeedItABomb:
** The Terrorkrawler and other Giant Alien Sand Worms can be killed instantly by throwing a grenade into its mouth, causing it's head to explode. Best done by Rambro and Macbrover's Turkey Bomb.
** Double Bro 7 can do the same thing. With a martini glass...
* FictionalCountry: When the game was in early access, all of the areas were referred to as Vietnam or Kazakhstan. The launch version of the game gave each area a different location, such as Afreeka, Cambodium, or Hawaii.
* FinalBossPreview: The first battle with the big mech in The Expendabros, which doubles as a HopelessBossFight.
* FinalDeathMode: Ironbro mode. If a bro dies, he/she's dead for good for the remainder of the game. Lose all bros and it's GameOver.
* Fireballs: Balls of fire can be found in last chapter raining from the sky.
* FisherKing: Any area controlled by the terrorists becomes a wasteland, aliens cover everything in purple organic mass, but all of that is restored to its natural beauty when Broforce liberates the area. Cue fireworks.
* FlamingSkulls; One of the enemies in the last chapter is a flaming skull that chases the player.
* FlippingTheBird: The enemy general inside the Stealth Tank boss does this to the Bros prior to the fight. And as of the newest (7th July 2016) update, Snake Broskin will give enemies the finger upon activating his teleport device.
* FlunkyBoss: The Sky Fortress boss will limit itself to fly around and spawn Mooks like there is no tomorrow once its lateral weapon platforms have been destroyed. The Heart of the Hive is a more straight example, since the boss itself won't attack at all, but it's constantly surrounded by a cloud of flying kamikaze aliens that definitely will.
* ForGreatJustice: "BROOOOOOOOFOOOOOOOORCE! Kicking ass for justice and for liiiiiiiibeeeeertyyyyy!"
* Foreshadowing: Notice that skull on the flag waving in the background during enemy/boss introductions?
** Most of the levels have their threat level as various shades of red/orange, which are actual ratings on the Terror Alert Scale. Val Verde is the first level which says, "Purple" and introduces the purple-themed aliens.
** The Stealth Tank has a rack of skulls strapped to the front as a means of demonstrating just how evil the terrorists are.
* FriendlyFireProof: None of the Bros' primary attacks, including the explosive ones, will harm allies. Trope with certain explosive specials, which tend to blow anyone and anything up. For enemies, it's usually only played straight with bullet attacks. However, enemies who have been blinded, however, will fire projectiles that miss the Bros and damage enemies. Throwing an enemy also temporarily renders them vulnerable to friendly fire until they get back on their feet.
* FunnyBruceLeeNoises: Bro Lee makes them, unsurprisingly, being based on Creator/BruceLee.
* GamePlayAndStorySegregation: Not even the Brominator and Brobocop are safe from , despite being a robot and a cyborg with a fully mechanical body, respectively.
** Speaking of the Brominator, getting hit by an acid attack will result in his flesh melting off to reveal a perfectly normal human skeleton (that then proceeds to fall apart), same as any of the other Bros, instead of his T-800 endoskeleton.
* GasCylinderRocket: Shooting propane tanks will cause them to catch fire before they blast off into the air. This is the most reliable way to do big damage to the Megacockter. A flying horizontal propane tank to the mouth will also kill the Acid Crawler instantly.
* GatlingGood:
** The Brominator can blast off with a powerful chaingun, but much like regular chainguns, it has a bit of spin-up time and the recoil drives you back. His special weapon is a transformation to his Endoskeleton form, which cancels out the recoil effect (and also makes him invincible). One trick is to use the recoil to move around faster than you walk.
** The Bruisers carry these as well, minus the knockback. The first boss - a giant tank - has two huge ones that tear through anything in their path.
* GiantMook: The terrorists have among their ranks the Bruisers, huge masked guys with a chaingun. As for the aliens, there are gigantic xenomorphs that attack by charging at you and can take quite a beating before going down. The undead inhabiting the Hell levels count among their ranks Boomers and Executioners, both are huge, and both are extremely dangerous.
* GlassCannon: The bros are capable of leveling entire terrorist bases and slaughtering hundreds of mooks, but still die from one pistol shot.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Broden's eyes glow (complete with lightning shooting out of them) whenever he's performing some heavy duty electroshock therapy on some unfortunate Mooks.
* GoldenEnding: The Hard Mode ending, where .
* GoodOldFisticuffs: Mr. Anderbro uses his fists as his primary weapon, and Bro Heart resorts to punching Mooks when he throws his claymore. Also, a few bros use a good ol' punch to the face as their melee attack.
* GoombaSpringboard: Cherry Broling's melee attack is a flip kick. It is slow and inefficient in terms of dealing damage, however hitting an enemy with it launches her into the air, higher than a regular jump.
* GovernmentAgencyOfFiction: When evil threatens the world, the world calls on Broforce: an under-funded, over-powered paramilitary organization that deals in excessive force.
* GrapplingHookPistol: Well, not exactly a pistol, but Indiana Brones's whip has this use. This makes him excel in the art of the DungeonBypass.
* GrenadeHotPotato: Enemy grenades can be thrown back. This even works with the player's own grenades, which is helpful, as they tend to be exceptions to the (mostly) FriendlyFireproof world.
* GrievousHarmWithABody: The October update added the ability to throw small enemies. The most obvious use of this is to throw enemies off cliffs to their demise, but hitting one enemy in the head with another will generally kill them both.
* GroundShatteringLanding: Mr.Anderbro can dash across the air by pressing the melee attack button + any direction at the same time. If done downwards while airborne, he'll dash straight into the ground and destroy anything he lands on.
** This trope is also played very straight in The Brocketeer's special.
** The Terrorbot boss has an attack in which it flies up into the air and slams down into the ground twice in quick succession, demolishing anything beneath it, including you if you're not fast enough in getting out of the way.
** Some levels feature enemy-controlled Walking Tanks that the player can gain control of. They are equipped with thrusters that allow them to fly (which is a good thing because of how sluggish their walking pace is), and falling from a decent height will cause them to dig a deep hole in the ground, crushing anything and anyone they land on except for checkpoints. If the layer of ground covering the s below the level is too thin, the vehicle will punch through it, which can potentially cause the player's death.
* GuileHero: The bros traditionally fight with direct strategies (i.e. shoot the target until they stop moving) but they are capable of relying on other strategies (such as digging around the enemy for a sneak attack, setting off propane canisters and explosives, or destroying the ground under their enemies so they can fall to their deaths instead).
* Guns Akimbro: Bro Hard and The Boondock Bros. Snake Broskin too, as of the latest (7th July 2016) update.
* HandicappedBadass: Snake has an eyepatch. On a more extreme level, one of Ash's arms has been replaced with a chainsaw, which he uses in his special and melee animation. Cherry, on the other hand, has replaced her missing leg with a machine gun, which slows her down on land but allows her to propel through the air with bullets and rockets.
%%* HandshakeSubstitute: The hi-five.
* HandCannon: Indiana Brones's special is a revolver capable of turning mooks/xenos/zombies into giblets in only one shot. Dirty Brorry's Magnum also fits the bill, despite not being as overpowered (It is a standard attack, after all)
* HarderThanHard: The game features a Hard difficulty, where enemy reaction times are much quicker, and Ironbro mode, where each Bro has only one life. The player can also play Ironbro Mode on Hard, however, which was not intended to be even remotely fair or balanced.
* Hellhound: Found in the Hell-themed levels. They act similarly to attack dogs, the difference being that when they eat a corpse, instead of growing in size and becoming more resilient, they spawn more Hellhounds
* HelicopterBlender: Do NOT try to "get to da choppah" from above. It won't end well for you.
* HelpfulMook: The skinless zombie in the hell levels will "ambush" any Bros they see, leaping out and chasing them. If they catch a Bro, however, rather than killing them, they'll simply cling to the Bro's back. This slightly hinders the player's movement, however they can easily be tossed off with the throw command to hurt other enemies. Best of all, they'll even save the Bro from a single bullet.
* TheHero: Rambro is presented as the leader of Broforce, and the default protagonist of the game. It's to the point where he's the one to deliver the final blow in the launch trailer, and .
* HeroesRUs: The titular Broforce, a BadassCrew of the world's greatest action heroes.
* HeroicBuild: Zigzagged. Exaggerated with most of the male characters, who have builds that would put Superman to shame. Inverted (and Downplayed) with the female characters, who are still muscular, but to a less exaggerated degree than the guys.
* HeroicComedicSociopath: Lampshaded in Part 5 of Road to Freedom, where one of the devs begins killing civilians at the White House.
--> Evan: It turns out Broforce are actually psychopaths! They shouldn't have been let anywhere near the White House!
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: There are several instances where bosses fire explosive attacks in front of themselves, causing them to take huge damage from their own explosions.
* HollywoodAcid: Most alien enemies bleed this when they die. While usually only burning through the terrain, the acid spilled by the exploding aliens and spit by the sandworms will melt flesh.
* HollywoodActionHero: Inspired by action flicks from the 80s and 90s as well as a few from the 2000s.
* HollywoodSilencer: Double Bro Seven and The Brofessional both have silenced handguns as their primaries. Snake Broskin carries silenced sub-machineguns as his main attack.
* Hologram: Snake Broskin's new special. Also works as a Teleportation teleport device.
* HomingProjectile: Bro Dredd's primary weapon shoots bullets that curve towards the nearest enemies. They also bounce when they hit anything that isn't an enemy.
** RPG mooks, missile tanks, missile turrets, and quite a few bosses fire homing rockets. En masse.
* HumanCannonball: Terrorkannons shoot out regular mooks and suicide mooks towards the player.
* HumongousMecha: The Terrorbot boss.
* IceBreaker: Demolition Bro's cryogenic grenades make the enemies turn into brittle ice statues.
* IdiosyncraticDifficultyLevels: the "threat rating" for every level starts easy to understand (green, yellow, red), then gets somewhat cryptic (crimson, ruby), then takes a turn for the absurd (tangerine, maroon, salmon).
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: The Brodator throws spears as his primary attack, which can impale multiple enemies and stick into walls... Or both. Also, this can happen to both Bros and enemies if they fall on a spike trap.
** Several levels feature dead bodies impaled on spikes as background decoration. You can actually stand on the bodies, which will push them further down onto the spikes.
* ImplausibleFencingPowers: All sword-wielding Bros can reflect projectiles with a well-timed slash. Bronan can cause Razor Wind by charging his attack, and Blade is invincible during his special due to his SuperSpeed.
* IncorrectAnimalNoise: The title screen has a bald eagle making a red tailed hawk call.
* InvisibilityCloak: The Brodator's special gives him one temporarily, while also automatically blasting any enemies close by.
* InvulnerableAttack: Brade and Bronan are invincible while using their specials. The Brofessional's melee attack, which teleports him to an enemy and stabs them, renders him invulnerable until he reappears. This can even be invoked by the player, as holding the button delays his reappearance by a couple seconds.
* ItsAWonderfulFailure: Losing all bros in Ironbro mode results in a brief cutscene depicting a rose falling on a bloodstained coffin wrapped in the American flag, heavily implied to contain the remains of the last character to die. Ouch.
* ItsQuietTooQuiet: Val Verde, the first "Threat Level: Purple" level, begins like any other, with all the terrorist enemies you've met so far. Then one stage- is nothing but terrorist corpses and blown up artillery.
* JackBauerInterrogationTechnique: Parodied in the Expendabros campaign. After beating Stonebanks, you're treated to a quick time event where you "interrogate" him by repeatedly punching him in the face. Once you've punched him black and blue, the words "INTERROGATION COMPLETE" flashes in the background, with no indication that you've actually got any information out of him. In fact you can keep punching him until his head explodes, [[spoiler:during which it's revealed that Stonebanks is actually a robot decoy.]]
* JackOfAllStats: Rambro, the first Bro, has the most balanced abilities of them all. Doesn't make him bad though.
* JavelinThrower: The Brodator uses his combi-sticks as javelins. He is able to turn Mooks into sish-kebab with them and he can even use his combi-sticks as platforms.
* JetPack: In addition to Brocketeer who uses jetpack for higher maneuverability, jetpack mooks are also located in a few levels who lift off when upon hearing noise or spotting the player. Their jetpacks are prone to malfunctioning.
* JokeWeapon: Double Bro Seven's first special, which consists of him drinking and throwing a martini glass. Though short-ranged, slow, and weak, it is technically capable of killing most enemies. It is also inexplicably a OneHitKill if thrown into the mouth of the alien worm bosses, making it a LethalJokeWeapon in those cases.
* KaizoTrap: One of the xenomorph-themed stages has the player running away from a giant sandworm-like xenomorph. Once the player reaches the end of the stage, the sandworm emerges one last time, likely taking out the rescue chopper... which will kill any player it lands on. Of course, if the player boards the chopper before the sandworm demolishes it, the victory theme plays as the chopper falls off-screen and explodes. Or you could simply wait for another chopper to show up.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: Brade's sword can cut down many enemies with one swing, and is one of the few weapons that can go through shields. The Brode also has one of these, which is one of the few attacks in the game that can be aimed in multiple directions.
* KillItWithFire: Several characters have fire based attacks:
** B.A. Broracus has a flamethrower as his primary weapon and napalm grenades as his special.
** Dirty Brorry uses Molotov cocktails as his special.
** Ellen Ripbro fires a literal flame wall when using her special.
** Bro Max has a shotgun that fires incendiary shells as his primary weapon.
** One of Double Bro Seven's specials is a jetpack that emits flame jets than can fry any nearby enemies.
** The Brocketeer also has a similar jetpack, but he activates it every single time he jumps.
* LadderPhysics: Players can climb ladders and fire their weapons at the same time.
* LandmineGoesClick: When stepping on a landmind, it does a pretty audible click.
* LanternJawOfJustice:
** Most of the male Bros have one.
** Ellen Ripbro sports one in the Launch Trailer.
* LargeHam: The Announcer, who sounds like a raspy BRIAN BLESSED. Check this for an example.
** Die enough times on a single stage, and the announcer will start shouting the beginning countdown much louder.
--> Announcer (when restarting a level after dying enough times): "THREE! TWO! ONE! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUGGGGGGGH!"
* LastDisrespects: "Press X to pay your respects". [[spoiler:Cue Rambro pissing on Satan's grave.]]
* LaughablyEvil: The Mooks. Sure, they invade countries. And torture innocent villagers. And appear to work for the Devil himself. But their reaction upon seeing/being brutally massacred by Broforce is hilarious.
* LegCannon: One of Cherry's legs is a machine gun, which, when fired straight down, propels her to new heights.
* LevelEditor: Present in the PC version. You can also download levels made by users in your computer.
* LightningBruiser: All melee characters apply, although special mention goes to Brade. He's not only the fastest character in the game, he also deals insane amounts of damage once he gets close and personal.
** While Brominator may initially resemble a MightyGlacier, he actually moves ridiculously quickly...in the opposite direction that he's firing. Combined with his ludicrous damage per second and ability to temporarily turn invincible, he sports a great balance of speed, offense, and defense.
* LittleUselessGun: The Brocketeer's pistol is probably the least powerful primary weapon in terms of damage in the game. Although it can be maxed out and is useful against run-of-the-mill Mooks and for utility purposes (blowing up barrels, breaking trapped terrain from a distance, etc.), you're better off using his Jetpack and RocketPunch to kill more threatening enemies such as Bruisers or aliens. Averted however, with Double Bro Seven's and the Brofessional's silenced pistols, which have superior DPS to Rambro's machine gun and are silenced so terrorists wont know what's happening until it's too late.
* LuckBasedMission: Since each Bro has different strengths and weaknesses, some segments can be near impossible if you happen to spawn or rescue the wrong Bro. Conversely, getting the right Bro can make some segments significantly easier (for example, Bro Dredd's controllable missile makes the Alien heart bosses trivial, while a Bro with a mobility ability makes the final escape against much easier).
* LudicrousGibs: Exploding an enemy or simply shooting their corpse repeatably can produce these, as well as destroying an enemy spawn door.
* MacheteMayhem: Brochete, obviously. He actually throws them as his main attack and chops with his melee. His special is throwing a storm of them.
* MacrossMissileMassacre: The Brommando does this for his special attack.
** The missile tanks and many of the bosses have similar attacks.
* MadeOfExplodium: When the player boards the rescue chopper, the entire level begins exploding for no discernible reason. The Brode's special attack turns any enemy into this, causing them to explode after a brief delay.
** This also goes for the suicide aliens who are bloated with explosive acid.
* MagikarpPower: The Brolander starts off with slow movement speed, a relatively weak melee weapon, and no special. Every few enemies he kills gives him one use of his (insanely powerful) special, however, and his speed and damage increase for every special he has. By the time he has five specials, he's the fastest bro in the game, with power to match. His sword becomes powerful enough to decapitate big mooks with a single swing, and even his regular attacks cause ChainLightning.
* MakeMeWannaShout: Bro Heart's special move is to bellow the word "FREEDOM!" at the top of his lungs for several seconds, disorienting and frightening foes and making the world itself shudder.
* MalevolentMaskedMen: Pretty much all of the terrorists wear ski masks, no matter how ridiculous: Kamikaze bombers, dogs, and, in one cutscene, a baby.
* MarathonLevel: The final area of the campaign, Hell, is long. Almost as long as 4-5 other areas put together, and includes a bunch of boss fights. Fortunately, BladderOfSteel and CheckpointStarvation are not in effect.
* MegatonPunch: Downplayed with Brominator and Bronan, whose melee attacks include an uppercut that sends enemies flying straight up into the air. Played more straight with Broden, whose uppercuts send enemies' heads flying straight up into the air.
* MeleeATrois: The aliens added in the February '15 update don't differentiate between the terrorists and the Bros, snacking on both if they get the chance. That is if the terrorists aren't using the aliens with devices implanted to their heads - those ones only attack Broforce.
* MightyGlacier: The Brominator's special reduces his movement and jumping capabilities, but also makes him invincible, among other things, whereas his minigun, while it has a slow windup period, is one of the most powerful weapons in the game. He can also become a LightningBruiser, as the recoil on his minigun can send him flying back faster than most other forms of movement.
* MiniMecha: The Mechanized Terror Units (as named by the May 2014 Double Bro Impact Update trailer). They are first found as a MiniBoss of sorts in stage 4 of the campaign (the very first city levels), and come equipped with dual guns, a RocketJump, and enough defense to tank a good chunk of damage, but if you kill their operators you can control it yourself. In the Lighnting Strikes Twice update, one of the covert ops missions unlocks americanized counterparts of these as power ups.
* MookDebutCutscene: When seen for the first time, nearly every variation of mook has a little cutscene showing a closeup and introducing them by name.
* MookHorrorShow: If a terrorist sees what is left of a victim of the Brodator's melee attack, he will run and scream in terror. Brochete's organ punches and Ash's chainsaw attacks are other such moments.
* MoreDakka: Pretty much all the bros can do this, but the Brominator and Brobocop's charged attack are the most notable examples.
* Mordor: This is how Hell is represented in this game, as opposed to the typical depictions of FireAndBrimstoneHell and BloodyBowelsOfHell.
* MultinationalTeam: Ironically, alongside the American majority, Broforce contains Bros from Australia, Ireland, Scotland, Great Britain, Mexico, Cimmeria, Ancient Greece, Italy, China, Sweden (if counting The Expendabros), outer space, and even Heaven.
* MultipleEndings: spoiler:After defeating Satan, the final level in the campaign is a PlayableEpilogue set in the White House, where you get to meet the President. What happens next depends on what you do and what difficulty you've cleared.
** .
** spoiler:If you kill the President by pressing the fire button instead, you're treated to the BadEnding, which has Rambro solemnly carrying the President's body out to the formerly happy crowds, and being thrown in jail for murdering him.
**
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: .
* NeverTrustATrailer: There are several things in the animated launch trailer that doesn't happen in the game.
** In the trailer, Ellen Ripbro uses a flamethrower the way B.A. Broracus does (short range, primary attack). In the game, it's not only a flame wall that travels the entire screen, it's also her special attack.
** In the trailer, the Skull Spitters are depicted as large, mobile enemies that you have to ride on in order to kill it. In the game, it behaves no differently than the Acid Crawler.
** In the trailer, B.A. Broracus takes over an enemy mech in hell before laying waste on nearby enemies with the mech's machine guns and missiles. In the game, not only there aren't any enemy mechs in hell, the mechs themselves don't have any missile attacks.
** In the trailer, Satan transforms from his businessman getup to a monstrous form with a flaming skull. In the game, there is another form in between.
** In the trailer, Rambro finishes off Satan with a shot from the grenade launcher attached to his machine gun. In the game, Rambro doesn't have a grenade launcher attachment on his machine gun. The one who has it is Cherry Broling.
* NintendoHard: And HOW! Not only are your bros One Hit Point Wonders, but the sheer density of the action from the frequent explosions to sudden enemy fire without warning to very hard-to-evade traps to lightning fast monsters to Giant Mooks and bosses with MoreDakka than even the bro-est of Broforcers will make you rather thankful for the variation in GameOver voices, because you will be hearing them a lot.
** And that's without taking in consideration Hard or Ironbro Mode. Or Ironbro mode in Hard, which the game itself tell you it is not designed to be fair or balanced, and that you should play it at your own risk.
* NoIndoorVoice: Almost all of the voice acting in the game consists of screams of terror or patriotism. This extends even to the text - with the exception of player names when playing online, all text in the game is written in CapsLock.
* NonSpecificallyForeign: The terrorists aren't given a defined nationality at all, nor are they confirmed to even be non-American. They have no defining features (they all wear ski masks and have a non-descript skin tone), they don't speak any known language (the only word they ever say is "Broforce!" when a scout sees them), and their flag seems to be a symbol for Satan himself rather than any country.
* NonStandardGameOver: If you press "fire" instead of "melee" when attempting to
* NoPlotNoProblem: The game has little more plot than "shoot evil America-hating terrorists and aliens until they die". Not that it needs a plot, anyway. Averted in The Expendabros, that has an ExcusePlot.
* NotCompletelyUseless: Initially, the ability to crouch may seem completely pointless, as it doesn't actually bring the player low enough to dodge any projectiles. However, later levels include tall grass, which will render the player unnoticeable by enemies if they are crouching. Grenades, if thrown while crouching, will simply plop out and roll a few inches, allowing them to be easily dropped down ledges. Finally, Cherry's weapons (which normally fire straight down) will fire horizontally while she's crouching, albeit rendering her immobile.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Think Satan is going to be a complete pushover in Hell just like every other time you met him? Think again.
* NothingLeftToDoButDie: Defied in the GoldenEnding. spoiler: Jesus notes that, having thoroughly brought peace to the world, there's nothing left for a soldier like you to do in the world, so he has you AscendToAHigherPlaneOfExistance...more specifically, to Texas.
* OffWithHisHead: Bronan and Brolander's swords will decapitate mooks they kill, as will Bro Heart's when he throws it. Brolander's sword, appropriately, deals more damage to enemies that can be decapitated, and less damage to enemies that can't.
* OhCrap: Though often TooDumbToLive, Mooks will scream and run away in terror when certain explosives are thrown near them, Ash Brolliams charges them with his chainsaw, or when they spot a victim of the Brodator's melee attack, among other things. The form of Satan found at the end of the level with also run away if a Bro hurts him without killing him, such as throwing him on the ground.
* OneHitpointWonder: All the bros (with the exception of The Boondock Bros and The Brolander, if he has more than one special available) die with just one shot from the terrorists, and can also die if they get caught in an explosion.
* OneHitPolykill: Dirty Brorry can do this with his .44 Magnum. Indy's rework gave him a revolver, which similarly pierces through enemies. The Brodator's combi-sticks will also impale several enemies in one throw when charged.
* OneOfTheBoys: All the female bros are just as trigger-happy, violent and prone to flexing as the male members.
* OneUp: You gain extra lives (and switch-out your characters) by rescuing your fellow bros from the terrorists. However, you immediately switch characters when you do.
* OneWingedAngel:
* OurZombiesAreDifferent: The undead Mooks featured in the Hell levels are more or less as intelligent as their living counterparts, as little as that says. They can still operate firearms, tell the difference between allies and enemies, and run away from explosives.
* PaperThinDisguise: One of Double Bro Seven's specials has him temporarily don a ski mask. Doing so renders him completely unnoticeable by all enemies, even Kamikaze Mooks and dogs charging straight at him. Even conspicuously murdering a Mook's fellow terrorists right in front of him will leave him none the wiser. Exaggerated when the disguise works against the aliens, who normally attack terrorists on sight.
* PersonalSpaceInvader: Skinless mooks do not do any damage but instead jump on player's shoulders, slowing their movement down and lowering their jump height. They can be thrown away.
* PhallicWeapon: The Megacockter boss is not called like that for nothing.
* PistolWhipping: Bro Hard and the Boondock Bros have this as their melee attack. Exaggerated with Tank Bro, whose aerial melee attack has her slam a rocket launcher down on her opponents.
* PlayerGuidedMissile: Bro Dredd allows you to do this.
* PostDefeatExplosionChain: A few bosses go down with numerous small explosions. Examples include Sky Fortress.
* PowerfulPick: Indy's rework gave him a pickaxe as his melee attack. It swings slower than most melee attacks, but deals much more damage to terrain, as his whip is not very good for tunneling.
* PunchedAcrossTheRoom: Mr. Anderbro's primary ability is simply his fists, which send enemies flying. The Brode's Five Point Palm Exploding Mook Technique takes this to a new level, sending enemies flying and then causing them to explode. Several of the reworked melee attacks, in fact, deal enough knockback that the enemy will destroy enemies or terrain immediately behind them.
* QuicksandSucks: In a few desert levels, there is a quicksand hazard that slows down the bros considerably while pulling them down, eventually killing them. Enemies are even more vulnerable to it. Quicksand can be removed by destroying solid terrain next to it.
* RatedMForManly: Hypermasculine heroes and heroines killing terrorists, aliens, and demons to save the world and doing it as awesome as possible.
* RecoilBoost: Cherry's primary feature is the vertical version, while Brominator's minigun is capable of the horizontal version.
* RecruitmentByRescue: You unlock each bro by rescuing your comrades. You can also recruit he captured villagers by giving them weapons, after which they'll gladly become your Red Shirt Army.
* RecursiveAmmo: Col. James Broddock's special is a ClusterBomb. It's one of the most destructive attacks in the game, and used to be one exception to the FriendlyFireproof rule before it was patched. It still may render the level unbeatable via destroying most of it, though.
* RedShirtArmy: Captured villagers can be given weapons so they can fight by your side. However, they aren't much more smarter or durable than the Mooks, and tend to die rather quickly.
* Retreaux: The game's Pixel Art graphics are very much In The Style Of VGA MS-DOS games from TheNineties.
* ResurrectiveImmortality: If The Brolander is shot while holding three or more special attack charges, he will get back on his feet, at the cost of losing all special charges.
* RingOutBoss: The GR-666, which can only be taken down for good by sending him off the edge of the map -- trying to bring down his lifebar will only have him get back up with the lifebar recharged.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: If either of the Boondock Bros (or Bro Duce) is killed, the other(s) will start glowing red and have temporarily increased movement and firing speed.
* RocketJump: Cherry's special launches a rocket straight down. Using it from the ground allows her to boost herself slightly in the air. Tank Bro can also perform one by sprinting into her rocket's explosion. Finally, Demolition Bro can gain extra jump height by detonating a bomb right in his face.
* RocketPunch: Brocketeer has a downplayed version as his melee attack. Originally, he simply threw a punch. Now, his fist still stays attached, but he uses his jetpack to boost himself forward, significantly increasing the punch's range and damage.
* RollingAttack: Screechers use rolling to reach the player.
* RoundhouseKick: Brodell Walker appropriately uses kicks for his melee attack, one of which is this. Colonel James Broddock does this as well. Justified given the guy who both characters are modeled after.
* RuleOfCool: A collection of the greatest action badasses that have ever kicked ass in the big/small screen during the last 30 years joining forces to destroy terrorism in an over the top orgy of death, blood, explosions and destruction? It can safely be said that this trope is this game's lifeblood.
* SawBladesOfDeath: Saw blades start appearing from forest levels on, being deadly to bros and the enemies alike. They can be destroyed after receiving enough damage.
** Some rotating saw blades hang around, being dislodged when shot enough.
** Other saw blades are shot from saw dispensers that activate when the bro is nearby.
* ScreamingWarrior:
** Upon using his special, Bronan leaps into the air with a battle cry befitting of the man he was modeled after.
** Exaggerated with Bro Heart, whose special is literally screaming the word "Freedom!" at the top of his lungs. He's not only faster while screaming, but enemies that hear him will run away in fear.
** Xebro lets out a battle cry when doing a somersault.
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: The terrorists do this when something happens to frighten them.
* SentryGun: Missile turrets fire on their own. Some even emerge from the ground.
* SequelHook: [[spoiler:After the credits roll, you're treated to a cutscene of Rambro visiting Satan's grave. You are then prompted to press the fire button to pay respects... in other words, prompt Rambro to pee on Satan's grave. After enough peeing, Rambro leaves... and then Satan's skeletal arm reaches out of the ground as a ScareChord plays.]]
* SequentialBoss:
* SetAMookToKillAMook: Shots fired by enemies affected by Bro Hard's or Bro In Black's special will hurt another Mooks; this is specially effective when done to Bruisers. Also, any explosive thrown by an enemy (grenades or rockets) will also blow their fellow terrorists to bits.
* ShieldBearingMook: Some mooks carry large riot shields that deflect any bullets fired at them from the front. They are unarmed otherwise, but will provide protection for their fellow terrorists, making them a priority if found in a group of Mooks. Explosives and melee attacks are the best ways to destroy their shields; after that happens they'll try to run away from you. Fortunately, they're seldom seen in the main campaign, but expect them to be a common form of GoddamnedBats in many custom levels/campaigns.
* ShockAndAwe: The speciality of the bros based on Christopher Lambert characters.
* ShortRangeShotgun: As is the norm in video games, shotguns in this game have a very short range but they deal high damage.
* ShoutOut: Besides the Bros, and the Xenomorphs, one level has a boss which is a giant heart.
** Also, one of the places that you have to liberate is named Arstotzka.
** Another such place is called Val Verde.
** TheStinger after the credits references both the "Press F to Pay Respects" meme from VideoGame/CallOfDutyAdvancedWarfare and the ending of VideoGame/CastlevaniaIISimonsQuest.
** Brodell Walker's airstrike special is very reminiscent of the Air Strike item in VideoGame/Worms
** Time Slow ammo boxes have the acronym T.E.C. written on them. That is, Time Enforcement Comission.
** GR-666 is an Expy of Sgt. Andrew Scott, AKA GR-13, the villain from the first Film/UniversalSoldier movie.
** Broden's looks and avatar portrait are taken from Film/MortalKombatTheMovie, but his special and melee attacks are a reference to the games (his special is Raiden's SignatureMove and his melee is Johnny Cage's MKI fatality)
** The final boss' form is very similar to the Icon of Sin.
** The update that saw the addition of Creator/JeanClaudeVanDamme inspired Bros (released on May 29th, 2014) was called Double Bro Impact
** Tank Bro's... uhm... tank is very reminiscent of the titular vehicle from the VideoGame/MetalSlug series.
** Besides also being a giant alien worm, Terrorkrawler's acid spray attack is pretty much identical to the Sea Worm's acid spray from Metal Slug 6, requiring the player hide under terrain to avoid.
** The Bro unlocking/swapping mechanic works exactly the same as the weapon unlocking/swapping mechanic of VideoGame/SuperCrateBox. The Brominator's minigun was also inspired by the minigun in that game.
* SiblingTeam: The Boondock Bros.
* SignatureHeadgear: Brodell Walker wears his characteristic cowboy hat, The Brofessional wears his knit cap and Indiana Brones wears his iconic fedora. Also, Broden's trademark straw coolie hat, which his in-game sprite wears. His avatar portrait, however, is hatless, probably because the hat would cover more than half of his face.
* SingleTear: Rambro sheds a single tear during the bad ending.
* SlasherSmile: Judging by her avatar portrait, Tank Bro seems to enjoy obliterating terrorists.
* TheSomethingForce: BRO-force
* SpeedEchoes: The Brolander will start displaying these after collecting enough special charges.
* SpikesOfDoom: Spikes are present in the game in various places, being deadly to both bros and enemies. It is possible to destroy spikes by removing terrain underneath them. In addition, it is safe to stand on enemies impaled by spikes.
* StealthyColossus: Parodied with the Stealth Tank boss, which is a giant tank with equally giant guns and all the subtlety it implies. But it is designated as a "stealth vehicule" because some foliage was hastily slapped on it in an attempt to camouflage it. It mostly covers its (dirt-colored) body, and leaves its incredibly obvious guns fully exposed.
* StickyBomb[=/=]GrenadeTag: Bronnar Jensen and [=MacBrover=] can both stick their explosives to terrain and enemies, resulting in appropriate reactions from the latter.
* TheStinger:
* StockBeehive: Wasp nest-looking beehives can be found in some of the levels. Shooting them down releases the bees that cause minor damage to enemies.
* StuffBlowingUp: Befitting an action movie, a ton of shit blows going from ExplosiveBarrels, to a Bro's explosives, to a Bro themselves. At the end of every level everything blows up as the Bro is helicoptered to safety.
* SuddenNameChange: Lee Christmas's lookalike in Expendabros is referred to as "Bro Christmas" in the trailer, but "Lee Broxmas" in the actual game. Brodator and Broheart were originally to be named "Predabro" and "Broveheart," respectively. However, they were referred to by their current names in the announcer's voice lines, which stuck.
* SuicideAttack: What would a terrorist group be without suicide bombers? The aliens even have suicide units, who roll into enemies and explode into acid - there's even a flying version. And in Hell, you will face zombie suicide bombers and warlocks who constantly summon suicide bombers for you.
* TaeKwonDoor: Doors can be slammed open against smaller enemies, killing them instantly.
* TakingYouWithMe: Unless their bodies are completely destroyed, kamikaze mooks will still explode when they die and the grenade-lobbers will often leave a bomb after them upon death. The Brodator functions under the same rule.
* TankGoodness: This is Tank Bro's shtick; her special consists in calling in a tank she (or any other player) can control.
* TauntButton: The Freedom Update added the ability to flex with the press of a button, which serves no purpose aside from looking awesome.
* TeamTitle: Broforce also happens to be the name of the group that fights evil.
* Teleportation:
** The Brofessional has a short-range teleport incorporated into his melee attack that homes towards enemies and auto-shanks them once you reappear. You can also guide the direction of the teleport yourself to about two tiles away, making The Brofessional the only Bro that can bypass the indestructible metal blocks (provided they're two tiles thick at most).
** Snake Broskin in the final version of the game now has this in his repertoire, using his special. He now flings a hologram that'll trick mooks into attacking it, but also serves as a one-use teleport that warps you to it if you press the special button again while the device is active.
* TeleFrag: A few characters can perform a telefrag. It's very difficult to do it on purpose, but Snake Broskin can do this when teleporting using his new special. In contrast, Seth Brondle's and to some extent, Broden's teleport can be used with much more ease to telefrag opponents. Finally, there is a quantum flex upgrade that allows every character to teleport into other enemies while flexing.
* TerroristsWithoutACause: It's unknown what ideology drives the terrorists, other than the fact that they seem to hate America and work for the devil.
* TestosteronePoisoning: The game stars ridiculously masculine heroes (and heroines), terrorists being shot into chunks, explosions everywhere, flexing, and even .
* ThemeNaming: Every member of Broforce has "Bro" in their name, one way or another.
* ThrowTheMookAtThem: Smaller enemies can be thrown. Upon contact with another small enemy, both are killed. Throwing explosive enemies makes them explode upon hitting a target or a ground.
* ThrowDownTheBomblet: MacBrover, with both his primary TNT bundle attacks and his special turkey bombs. Grenadier Mooks also attack using only grenades.
* ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks: Bro Heart's melee attack has him throw his sword. It deals massive damage and decapitates anyone in a line, and sticks into whatever terrain it hits (assuming the sword landed blade-first, that is). Of course, he's left unarmed as a result, and has to resort to using his fists until he picks his sword up. An update gave his sword the ability to reflect projectiles when thrown, even after it's landed in the ground.
** A less ridiculous example is Brade and The Brode, who use throwing knives as their melee attack. Brochete's primary attack, meanwhile, is to throw machetes.
* TimeStandsStill: Time Bro's special slows down the game's speed to a crawl, while allowing him to move and shoot at normal speed. The screen even turns into a grey monochrome for the duration of the effect. Bro Lee's special also slows down time due to him moving extremely fast, allowing you to chain your combo accurately.
** The Time Slow ammo you get upon completing Time Bro's covert mission allows any Bro to get a taste of Time Bro's mojo.
* TitleScream: Announcer shouts "Broforce!" when title screem comes up.
* ToHellAndBack: The final part of the game has you storming HELL ITSELF to kick the Devil's ass.
* TokenNonHuman: Though Brominator is technically a robot, the Brodator is a much more blatant example: He's visibly the most alien of the cast, bleeds green blood, and emits an ominous hissing sound in place of the "Yeah!" of the other Bros.
** Other examples are Brade, who is a Dhampyr half-vampire, Brobocop, who is a Cyborg, and Broden, who is a god.
* TopHeavyGuy: Most of the male characters are portrayed this way in the art, though the playable sprites feature slightly more realistic proportions. The Bruisers are hulking monstrosities that dwarf even the biggest bros.
* TwentyMinutesIntoThePast: According to information found in the cutscenes, the game takes place in the year 1993 .
* UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny: The Versus modes, Race and Deathmatch.
* UnexplainedRecovery: Both villagers and trapped Bros can die from falling or being shot. As long as their body is intact, however, they'll pop up, ready to kick ass, if the player interacts with them.
** Also, it's entirely possible (and very likely to happen in the early game, when you only have a handful of Bros unlocked) to play as a given bro, die, respawn as another bro, and rescue the very same bro who died earlier. And whose dead body (or what's left of it, depending of the circumstances of his death) is still lying about.
* UnintentionallyUnwinnable: It is technically possible to destroy enough of the level that reaching the end is impossible. Ladders, however, as well as the ground underneath checkpoints and ziplines, are some of the only things you can't destroy. Combined with the amount of dexterity the Bros have to maneuver around terrain, it's extraordinarily difficult to accidentally render a level impossible.
* UnnecessaryCombatRoll: Cherry can do this by pressing down while moving forward, readying her into position to fire in front of her.
* UnskilledButStrong: The terrorists don't use much in the way of tactics. They also have weapons strong enough to kill the freaking Franchise/Terminator in one shot.
* UseYourHead: B.A.'s melee attack is a headbutt that sends enemies flying.
** Exaggerated with Brocketeer's special, which has him dive-bombing enemies headfirst with his jetpack.
* VagueAge:
* VariableMix: Ambient music in levels becomes more intense when enemies are killed.
* VideoGameCrueltyPotential: In the world map screen, there are seagulls flying around. You can kill them with the helicopter if you want. .
* VideoGameFlamethrowersSuck: Averted and kicked in the ribs while it's down. B.A. Broracus' flamethrower has short range, but deals very high damage, sets enemies on fire (preventing them from shooting back), and as expected, is one of the best weapons against xenomorphs. It's also very effective cutting a path through terrain. Meanwhile Ellen Ripbro's flamethrower has limited uses since it's her special, but has great range and also deals massive damage.
* VoiceGrunting: The Commander speaks this way, albeit with occasionally audible words such as "operation", "America", "terrorists" and "freedom" and "President Birthday".
* WatchForRollingObjects: In some temple levels, there are boulders that activate. If one can't outrun them, the best option is to jump over them.
* WaveMotionGun: uses a gigantic beam as one of his attacks.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Tank Bro's tank can resist gunfire and explosions handily, but if a dog or an alien manages to scratch it while you're in it, consider your ride exploded a few seconds later.
* WeaponizedExhaust: The main feature of the Brocketeer; every time he jumps he will fry nearby enemies with his Jetpack. Double Bro Seven can also do this with his jetpack special.
* WeaponizedTeleportation: The Brofessional uses a simple version of this as his melee attack: He teleports to an enemy and stabs them in the chest. The hologram Snake got with his rework can also do this, as he deals damage and gibs enemies when he teleports to it.
* WearingAFlagOnYourHead: While only visible in their introduction portraits, each Bro has an American flag somewhere on their person. In most cases, it's a belt buckle. As for where that belt is located on a Bro's person, well...
* WhatMeasureIsAMook: PlayedForLaughs. At one point in the main campaign, there's a cutscene depicting the life of a suicide mook, from his birth to the moment he decides to charge at you. [[spoiler: You don't even get to kill him yourself : he dies from fall damage after jumping off a platform, and anticlimactically explodes off-screen.]]
* What the Hell, Bro?!: If the player , an alternate cutscene[=/=]DownerEnding plays where people stare in horror at Rambro. The final scene has .
* WorldOfPun: Have you noticed that all the character names are puns on the word "bro"?
* XenomorphXerox: With CaptainErsatz's of Ellen Ripley (Ellen Ripbro) and a yautja hunter (The Brodator) on the team, it's inevitable that xenomorph ripoffs would show up. While they have hive-space, eggs, and facehuggers, they skip the larval form and chestburst into fully-grown drones. About one in a hundred becomes (in gameplay, is spawned on the map as) a Praetorian. They also take many cues from the Zerg, having expies of banelings, scourge, and nydus worms.
* YouAreAlreadyDead: Any enemy hit by The Brode's special only has a couple seconds to make their peace with their deity of choice before blowing up in spectacular fashion. Also, when a bro is splashed by xenomorph acid or , you can control him or her for a second or two before he (or she) melts into a skeleton.
* YourHeadASplode: See FeedItABomb above.
* ZergRush: In some levels, aliens spawn continually and love to do this. Unless your current bro is good at crowd control, you'd best run.
* ZombiePukeAttack: Boomers vomit acid as their main attack.
