Portmeirion is a quaint little [[{{UsefulNotes/Wales}} Welsh]] village, built in an Italianate style between 1925 and 1975. Although nice enough in itself, being situated by the sea with some very pretty architecture, it's become widely known as the set of ''many'' TV shows and other bits of fiction. These include, but are in no way limited to:

* ''Series/ThePrisoner1967''
* ''Series/DangerMan'': the episode "View from the Villa"
* ''Series/DoctorWho'': the story [[Recap/DoctorWhoS14E1TheMasqueOfMandragora "The Masque Of Mandragora"]]
* ''Series/CitizenSmith''
* ''Series/{{Llanargollen}}''
* ''Series/{{Gigglebiz}}''
* ''Film/TheLaughingPrisoner''
* ''Series/ColdFeet''
* The Music/{{Supergrass}} video "Alright"
* Music/{{XTC}}'s songs "The Meeting Place" and "The Man Who Sailed Around His Soul"
* The Music/SiouxsieAndTheBanshees video "the Passenger"
* One episode of ''Series/TwoPointFourChildren''
* The ''Literature/DoctorSynTheScarecrow'' novel ''The Amazing Quest of Doctor Syn'' has scenes anachronistically set in Portmeirion. It's set in the 1780s, nearly 150 years before Portmeirion was built.

Many of these examples which were filmed after ''The Prisoner'' use the village as a StockShoutOut to that show.

Outside of television, it's also known for being where ''Theatre/BlitheSpirit'' was written. Creator/BertrandRussell was a friend of Clough Williams-Ellis, the designer of the village, and held several conferences there.
