And now for some RealLife UsefulNotes about CPR.

!First off, if someone near you is not breathing at this moment, TVTropesWillRuinYourLife GET OFF TV TROPESIn this case, you're ruining someone else's life AND DIAL 9-1-1in North America, 1-1-2in the European Union, 9-9-9in the British Commonwealth, and many nations formerly thereof, OR WHATEVER THE EMERGENCY NUMBER IS IN YOUR JURISDICTION!!!Most mobile phones will reach emergency services with any of the aforementioned common global emergency numbers, and usually you don't even need to unlock your phone to dial an emergency number. Time is of the essence. The operator can instruct you on the phone. If you came here because someone nearby is not breathing, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!We don't honestly think anybody is really that stupid to go to TV Tropes if someone nearby has a medical emergency. This disclaimer is largely just for comedy.

CPR, AED and other First Aid training is highly desireable, especially in certain fields of employment. If you are interested, certification courses are widespread. A good place to look is your local Red Cross. Any national affiliate of the International Red Cross and Red Cresent Movement, depending on if Christianity or Islam is the predominant religion of the country in question. In Israel, it's Magen David Adom, or Red Star of David, which is used in conjunction with the secular Red Crystal logo.

Proper execution of CPR is vital, which is why formal training is important.Frequent re-training is also important because changes to procedure happen all the time. For example, in recent years, mouth-to-mouth is no longer recommended in most non-drowning cases. If done wrong, not only could it be ineffective, but it could damage the rib cage in a fatal manner. Proper execution could still break ribs; this is alright, and some physicians suggest it may even be necessary. Improper execution could snap off the xyphoid process at the bottom of the sternum and damage the heart itself, rendering CPR pointless.

Don't confuse it with the Heimlich maneuver, used to expel objects blocking a person's throat. CPR is for dealing with a stopped or very slowed heart, an entirely different emergency.
