!Listed Trivia:
* AuthorPhobia: Randall's alleged fear of velociraptors, PlayedForLaughs.
* ColbertBump: Courtesy of [[http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy/2013/08/19/xkcd_and_exoplanets_randall_munroe_names_names.html Slate]]. Boingboing linking to the "sudo" strip is what really made the comic popular.
* CreatorBreakdown:
** In 2010 Munroe's fiancee discovered she had cancer. Coincidentally, [[http://xkcd.com/1048/ quite a few comics]] he wrote afterward touch on the subject. At one point, he explained that the comics were, obviously, drawn from from things he was thinking and learning about, and right then cancer was looming large in his life.
** To a lesser extent, a number of strips from late 2015 seem to focus on a particularly nasty cold Munroe came down with.
* CreatorWorship: A literal case. Randall Munroe, the creator of the comic, is referred to as Great Lord Randall and is something like a god for the fans.
* {{Defictionalization}} -- wetriffs.com, mentioned in [[http://xkcd.com/305/ a spoof of]] RuleThirtyFour, [[http://wetriffs.com is now a real thing]]. Granted, not terribly detailed.
** [[http://bobcatinabox.com/ There now exists]] a service to do [[http://xkcd.com/576/ exactly this.]] And it's even called [[http://xkcd.com/325/ Bobcat In A Box]].
* GatewaySeries: For webcomics in general.
* LifeImitatesArt: It's happened a few times.
** After the strip [[http://xkcd.com/481/ proposed a virus]] that forces Website/YouTube users to listen to their comment read back to them by a computerized voice before they can post it, Website/YouTube implemented an auto-reader feature into the site. It eventually was removed.
** The day after [[http://xkcd.com/541/ this strip]] ran, claiming that Randall has been banned from a number of conferences for making stupid presentations, including [=PyCon=], the [=PyCon=] blog jokingly confirmed that he (and any stick figures, [[JerkAss particularly wearing hats]]) [[http://pycon.blogspot.com/2009/02/randall-munroe.html were indeed banned]].
** In [[http://xkcd.com/1337/ "Hack"]], the characters gain control of ISEE-3, an unused but still-working satellite. Not long after, a crowd-funded group of astronomers [[http://blog.xkcd.com/2014/05/30/isee-3/ did this for real]]!
* MilestoneCelebration: [[http://www.xkcd.com/1000/ Only 24 Comics left till the *real* milestone!]]
* MutuallyFictional: A really subtle one with ''Webcomic/QuestionableContent'' and ''Webcomic/{{xkcd}}''. Marigold wears an xkcd shirt [[http://questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=1625 here]], and [[http://xkcd.com/574/ this]] xkcd comic shows one of Hannelore's Twitter posts.
* SmartPeopleBuildRobots: Randall has a background in [[http://what-if.xkcd.com/5/ robotics]]. (For extra HollywoodNerd cred, he was a robotist at NASA.)
* TheWikiRule: [[http://www.explainxkcd.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page Explain XKCD]]
** Now there's even [[http://xkcd-time.wikia.com/ a wiki]] exclusively dealing with [[http://xkcd.com/1190 "Time"]].
* XtremeKoolLetterz: Indirect. [[http://xkcd.com/1052/ This "Major General" parody]] was turned into a music video by SFU Choir/''Phlying Wayl'' Studios.

!Miscellaneous trivia and information
* [[http://xkcd.com/954/ 954: Chin-Up Bar]] takes place on a 70-meter long escalator, described as the "longest in the country" -- this appears to be a reference to the escalator at [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheaton_(WMATA_station) Wheaton Metro Station]] in the Washington, DC Metro system. At the time of publishing (September 2011), this was, in fact, the longest single-span escalator in the Western hemisphere.
